Safe Neighborhood

I grew up about a mile from the track and the neighborhood is extremely safe. I don't think a thing about parking west of the track for any of the races.
Watch for "no parking" signs. My wife's cousin's car got towed by my friends at the Speedway PD while we were shopping the night before the Brickyard.
Will anyone be here for practice? I've got to work on 9/29 so I can't make the race.TC

A couple of years ago, my daughter's school had a charity auction held at the pagoda at the track. In the brochure they said you could drive your own car around the track one lap for $100. Now, imagine a bunch of rich guys in their 740iL's, SL600's, etc.--after being at the open bar.
Instead, they had Scott Goodyear, Eddie Cheever and Buddy Lazier drive a couple of laps in pace cars for $100. My wife took one and was IMPRESSED. Scott G. was driving down the back stretch explaining how he looked at the trees on the golf course to see which way the wind was blowing--with one hand on the wheel doing 120 mph. Did I say she was IMPRESSED?TC
P.S.--For the out of towners, after practice and quals, go to Union Jack pub 2 mi. west of the track on Crawfordsville road(actually it's on 25th st. but you can see it from C'ville Rd. Lots of racing art and memoribilia.

Friday night we are heading to the Slippery Noodle Inn, Indiana's oldest blues bar. By far the best bar in Indy. They're having their F1 weekend tent party, and adding another stage or two to the two live stages they already have. The place is huge, and always a blast. Their website is www.slipperynoodleinn.com
After the track events on Saturday we will be heading to Fastimes Indoor Karting Center, 96th St and Keystone av (HWY 431). It's off the road, but just look for the giant bowling pin right next door to it. Open karting from 6-10, or 11. If you're not there at 6, expect an hour wait, or longer. I'm instructing everyone to park in the back row of the parking lot. I'm certain we'll have a dozen or more Impreza's lining up. Ask anyone who went last year, it's a blast. Check their website for info. www.fastimesindoorkarting.com
That should have everything you need to know.

Bonzo, weren't you the one to beat last year? IIRC, you or Owen.
Where is Owen, anyhow? Hey Owen, c'mon down to Indy that weekend, and I'll show you how to drive. Bonzo, you're going to be crying when I beat you, with an extra 100 pounds on my kart.
YOU ALL WILL!!!
By the way, cops really look down on people driving with the hose off the tapper running through a sliding rear window. Although it's really tough to prove that it really is an "open container" that way, I wouldn't suggest it. Unless, of course, you have a camper shell. ;)

Updated the list with which passes have been mailed, and who's picking up. If you are not listed as mailed, or picking up, what are you doing????
Let me know ASAP. If anyone else wants in, I've got extras. If they don't go to anyone here, soon, I'm dropping them off at the local Subaru dealerships.

Any microbrew works. Don't worry about it though. I really didn't do this for anything besides getting everyone together, and hopefully a lot of fun. I just saw BMW, Porche, Corvette, Jaguar, and Ferrari were doing it, and I figured Subaru should too.
How funny will it be if the Ferrari's and Corvette's corrals are on either side of ours? Go tell the owners you'll race them in the snow or rain.

Do not forget to bring closed toe shoes for Saturday's karting event. Strictly no sandles.
And if I didn't metion it before, park in the back row of the parking lot. Showing up much after 6:00 will result in a one hour wait. I'm heading there before 6:00.

Just the single blue sheet. I was told placards, and figured they'd be all spiffy, but these will work all the same.
Bonzo-The doors open at 6:00 for open karting, but I'm figuring we'll be the first one's at the door. That's why 5:30 or so. If you want to show up earlier, knock yourself out.
Weather is looking good, so far, but I'm not going to get my hopes up and jinx it.

Check the first post. I've got five people that still haven't responded. That's fine, just let me know what you're doing. I've got about a dozen people I need to entertain at my house, so I won't be real available, except for karting and at the bar. If you need to pick them up, tell me when and how. I'm mailing out a few more today, but I'm not sure tomorrow will give the USPS enough time to get it to you.

You guys do the rest of us a favor, and take some pics...
Wash your cars, and make us proud... And drive those karts like you're trying out for a F1 seat in 2003!
Wish I was going... I was there in 2000, but haven't been able to make it back!
Have good fun!

Yeah, I wasn't real happy they let Vipers and Ferraris clutter up our section, but hey, it was still free.
The quote of the day, came when we were parking. The guy in a true Hoosier accents says, "Just go down to the end of this row. There's a bunch of Porches, and BMW's, and these things too."
Even if he didn't know what he was looking at, at least he noticed "these things".
A couple people not with the group were snapping pictures of the exotic cars, as well as the Sube's. Pretty cool they thought they were worthy of their scrapbook.

2nd guy "That's where the fancy cars park"

Great pics. I like page 2 #0007 best: Ferarri, Ferarri, Ferarri, Ferarri, Me! We got there about 8:45, but there were already a bunch of those [emailprotected] Ferarris in the Subaru Corral. Shoulda towed them  Mine was the black wagon with the monkey on the back! Daughter wanted her trunk monkey to get to meet the other trunk monkeys, so after the race, we got monkey out and had him hanging from the big SWRT flag. Needed to get him some fresh air before the long drive home.
Thanks a bunch, Josh, for getting this together. I was kinda surprised to see I'm not the only middle-aged guy that likes these toys. I kinda got the impression it was a mostly younger crowd. Hey, we're all young at heart if we play hard enough!
For a first timer at any Indy event, this was quite a treat. I also realized you don't need the expensive seats. looked like some of the best viewing (and views, for that matter) were on the mounds. However, my assigned seat was next to a bunch of Montoya fans all the way from home, and I sat next to this georgeous Latin Lovely, so I'm not complaining.
Here's me, with Jonathan all the way from Massachucetts in the background.
Thanks again,

Again, all, you're very welcome. It was simple to set up. A few phone calls, and they were all about it. I'm sure they'll welcome us next year, as they need to get any fans they can. I'm sure they already know they should have roped off the individual clubs. If you think we were a little disappointed by having a few $100K+ cars parked around us, think about the owners of the $100K+ cars. Sitting there, with the "common folk".
On that note, you guys should have seen the NASCAR fans going off on the pompous ass in Testerosa. If you missed it, it was the derelicts on top of the van shouting crap at a pretty red Testerosa, which was inching along in Traffic, trophy wife riding shotgun. The conversation was about what you'd expect. The mullets were giving him crap about how much he spent on the car, and how small his pecker must be. On the other side though, the dude in the car was NOT happy. No friendly exchange back. He and the trophy wife just staring straight ahead, gritting teeth. When traffic picked up, he proceeded to flip the bird up at the drunks, then immediately got stuck again, about 5 feet past the van. They let him have it. All he could do was sit there with the finger flying out the window, and take it from guys in a $1000 van.
Ah, drunken mullets. It was the first time all day I felt like I was really at Indy.

Crap I missed the red one but got to hear him rip on the old man in the black one from Illinois, his wife was no trophy! My favorite quote from the balding mullet looser was "ferarri ******" after getting POed that his wife/GF had her picture taken next to the car. Then the jealous looser yelled at her for awhile. I wonder if he could even spell Ferarri?

Maybe it was the black one. And you might be right, the wife was no trophy. Who knows. I had a few oil cans in me by that time. oi!
Regardless, it was funny as all hell. You know those guys didn't dig being in the same crowd as the Subarus.

Again! Nate, I think we've been the same place at the same time three or four times now, the others being Mid-Ohio at the F500 race and I think ALMS and something else, and I still haven't met you. I might have even talked to you Sunday and didn't know it.

Hey Josh, Thanks for setting up the "Suby Corral". I had a great time for the third year in a row. I can't wait for the 2003 USGP. By the way, how can ya stand that Fosters? Yuck. Ya musta been thirsty. HaHaHa. I wish the track would sell some better beer. ...GQ

Yea, that was probably me. I went to the June Sprints, and then the Run-offs. What does your car look like? I might have talked to you. I was the skinny tall guy wearing the white Ferrari T-shirt.

Whit: Great pics! Your seats were obviously better than mine out in Stand G. My daughter is a Mika Salo fan, and me of Allen McNish, and all I had was a tiny picture of them driving by. You're picture made her day.
Nate: I was the guy pictured somehwhere above with the SWRT flag and the old fat looking hat. my black WRX wagon was parked down by the Ferraris

It was great meeting everybody and just hanging out talking about the race.
Josh, I would have gone to that bar with you guys if the wife wasn't with me! Thanks again and I am looking forward to doing this all over again next year!:D
To all who did not go, you missed out on a great weekend of racing, and drooling over awesome cars!

For all who did go, thanks for showing up. Good times.
For next year we're going to either have IMS do their job right, or one of us will go rope off a section early. Aside from that, what else might you guys want? And no, we're not going to autocross on Tony George's golf course.
I'm going to request we get parked right along the road, so everyone can see the cars as they drive by. If you noticed, the other side of that lot was just a bunch of random cars. Would have been nice if we could have had all the car clubs lined up along the road in there.
Anything else you guys want/need there?

I would like to see better beer sold at the IMS. I don't care to carry a cooler of my own to the track. Sam Adams, Michelob, MGD, or something like Bitburger. That Fosters is aweful. Otherwise, I would like to see at least 75,000 more people at the race next year, and a flyover from the Blue Angels, or the Thunderbirds, not those AirGuard C-130's.
I really had a great time, and see IMS as a "Top Notch" race facility. Thanks again for organizing the Suby Coral
