Neons lead the wet skidpad, Luke 3rd of 4th not sure yet, we were 0.72 Kumho MXs are the worst, and I mean the worst wet tires ever. I should have run on the rims.
Then we notice the trailer hitch broke, and are not sitting here waiting on a new one to be delivered.

I was going to find my "Things I learned at One Lap" thread and quote the part where I got killed in the rain at Road America on the MXs :) But I couldn't find it.

Hello,
I was going to find my "Things I learned at One Lap" thread and quote the part where I got killed in the rain at Road America on the MXs :) But I couldn't find it.

Tom, is that this post?
DO NOT go with the KD. You will lose big time if it rains. [...] For 9" wheels, I think a shaved 275 MX would be hard to beat.
hahaha... lesson learned? Don't listen to Tom?
Here is a list of things that I learned or found out through the event.
[...]
6) Kumho MXs SUCK, REALLY REALLY REALLY SUCK, HORRIBLY SUCK in the rain
[...]
10) Did I mention that the Kumho MXs suck in the rain?
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=354983&page=3 - post #58.
Or is the lesson learned "learn from Tom, but don't listen to him?"
:D
Joel, just being silly, GOOD LUCK, Jon!

Haha, thats the post! I always thought (before One Lap 03) because of the tread design the MX's might be ok in the rain, not so much. They *are* definetly better then a KD though
Ah well, I warned Jon, except that I don't think he was ready for the magnitute of suckitude in the rain. Maybe its also a matter of a 295 hydroplaning? I dunno.

In Joliet today all Subarus left intact. There was a white 06 STI with blue wheels that had its engine shut down for some reason on one straight late in the afternoon. He got towed back to the pits and it fired right up. No idea what was wrong. Luke ran good, one silver 06 STI looped it in the first turn, ended up in the grass, nothing hurt but his pride.
I had heard a GT3 was damaged but I didn't see it. It was a fun afternoon, more cars than I expected, more specatators too.

Haven't talked to Jon and Luke said he felt good about today's laps. They thought they were somewhere in the top 5 when they left, but didn't get times from the cars behind them.

I am glad Block didn't crash, he was putting on a drift show in turn one and then he didn't come around... We left, so we didn't see what happened, but It is good it was only an engine issue.
I ran 4 seconds or so behind Luke, neither of us had ever driven the track, I had never driven the car in the dry, and the brakes went away because there was some air in the rear. Luke was 6th I think overall, I was 9th, which made me pretty happy considering the issues.

Luke's is an 05 I think... I could be wrong.
One other note, the GT3 that crashed was one of the club members, not one of the One lappers.

Got a call from Doug. Luke over Jon by a little over a second. Nobles are off the pace as yesterday was their home track. Ron Adee spun in the 1st session. Luke is 5th overall right now.
More updates to come as thet do the afternoon session later.

The One Lappers just left MAM and onto thier 1100mi 16hr journey to Louisiana. I would have to say that Luke looked really impressive out there. Looks like pretty much all the STi's were running a variety of sized Neova's.
It appears that Luke will have moved into 5th overall, 1st in class.

What's up with that Civic?? They seem very fast and consistent, being in the top 10 is impressive even though it's still early. Obviously well-driven, but it must be some type of mutant, hybrid monster freak to be running that fast.

It had an obviously stiff suspension as you could tell it nearly bounced around the corners and had the all too familiar whining noise coming from under the hood. :D I was very impressed with it, but then again it was sponsored by Honda so it almost should be expected.

Ken Block. DNS/DNF. Reportedly blew up his engine at Autobahn.
What a day. Firstly, want to say that Luke and Doug with TopSpeed are some VERY nice folks. Us locals enjoyed the conversation very much. Other than the full blow GT cars, expect them to do well.
We had a interesting day helping out a Isuzu-Lotus of Andrew Barron and Chris Coker that blew a turbo. We sent a friend back to Omaha to get a 2" heater hose to bypass the intake. They then wedged the wastegate open to make it run fully NA. They got it running and finished the event! They have a turbo waiting for them in Louisiana. I felt totally guilty at honking (and scaring them, as they were in zombie mode) at them coming down the interstate this morning only to find out they broke.
Cars I was most surprised with?
-Honda Si. Very well tuned suspension wise
-The blue Z06. Shear. Power.
-SRT8 Cherokee (full blown DC effort, running on stock suspension (bilstien, 4pot Brembo's all around)
-The relatively stock 2006 STi of the Schutes and there very aggressive driving.

Yep.. I went out there to NPR today and watched. It was sad to see luke/doug having issues with the topspeed car, although they tried their hardest to get it going and get back out there. Once they got out, it was clear they were down on power, but hell, they tried...
A guy with a black STi was in the booth next to them, and I helped them out alittle bit under their car since they were alittle confused (but thats ok, I got confused about which way was full stiff, I realized it about 2 minutes after getting both sides adjusted wrong.. but hey, atleast I realized!)... Cool group of guys out there...
Luke: good luck on the rest of the run
