Congrats again on pulling out some awesome runs on Sunday Karen.
Thanks, Phil. If I can figure out how I did that, maybe I can replicate it at Nationals!
hanging out with everyone at dinner was great, even if we did get kicked to the kiddie table both nights.

oh, chang's car isn't going to get any faster. it's all there.
Hey you could have stepped up to the adult table if you wanted. We had a seat both nights but you choose to be a seperatist.

Yeah, Chang ought to work on keeping a straight face when he tries to convince me that I should tell Mike to sandbag because there's nothing left in the Civic. The STX Civic when fully developed will likely turn out to be unbeatable IMO at anything but a Pro. I hope that he was BSing me and really does bring it to Nationals and gives it a try because I think he and his car are the ones to prove that both STS and STX might becoming Spec Civic classes in anything but a Pro.
KC 08-09-2005 08:54 AM

I hate redlights... specifically I hate rolling forward after staging and not feeling it. :grrrrr: :D In all three of my redlights (2 on the left and one on the challenge) that's exactly what happened.

Anyhoo, great seeing all you out there running. I have limited pics of heat A since my run group and work group didn't allow me much time to take them. Dinner out with the crew is always a good time... and it was really funny seeing Billy trying to walk a straight line... *cough*lightweight*cough*.

I found the course challenging and fun. Yes, there was a tight element to the course, but it was nothing like Oscoda where there were 3 of them in a row. Having one, IMHO is fine with me. I just wish I didn't have to downshift... but then again.. this car actually does it with ease. :D

And winning BS... I guess I'm still in good standing with the weather gods... since they smiled on me Sunday morning to allow me a shot at a good left side time after Saturdays rather abysmal results. And to those that say I had some sand with no good scratch times on sat on the left... 2 redlights and 2 cones on one side and saving tires because of them? No use in putting more heat into the tires! I learned that lesson a long time ago!

One thing is for certain.. switching to my other set of V710s between drivers on Sunday was key... and to that I owe the idea to Mike Snyder (MR2) after talking about it for a couple minutes. Why run on hot V710s? :)

And no ProFinale for me BTW... no time nor $$ to do it.

--kC
jcroy66 08-09-2005 09:18 AM

No ProFinale?? That sucks. :( You still going to the National Championships?
mccanixx 08-09-2005 10:21 AM

I should really focus more. ya know?

I just couldn't get that right side together.

And on my last left side run I found myself watching a plane land. Yep work on focus.

Anyway I had a great time, seeing you all, and it was a good experience for me.

I don't know if I'd chase the series around next year. But I definetly liked the format. :D

See ya all soon.
KC 08-09-2005 10:29 AM
No ProFinale?? That sucks. :( You still going to the National Championships?
Hells yeah! I just can't take out an extra 2.5 days from work to make the finale.
CamaroFS34 08-09-2005 10:43 AM
And no ProFinale for me BTW... no time nor $$ to do it.
I can understand that. It was a very sad day for me when I came to the realization that it was pointless for me to run the ProFinale this year with only a 3rd and a 4th place in DS. If I'd found a DS ride and done decently this past weekend, I might have reconsidered. I had an ESP (L2) ride available to me (Brian Burdette would have brought Sam Strano's Camaro out for me), but I didn't want to have to find an ESP ride for the Finale too, so I told him to forget about it.

What hurts the most about the decision is that I like the Pro format much more than Tours.... and that extends to the Championships too. :(

Oh, and Keith. I might need a special sticker made up, if Camaro FS34 can't run #34 at Nationals.... :furious:

jcroy66 08-09-2005 01:26 PM

Hmmm, perhaps...
Sunday I'm lined up against Heyward and I figure I'll cut a big fat RL to try and psyche him out... I leave on the 1st yellow, he cuts a .9 and we have a good laugh...

Then, we switch sides I cut another RL and enter into the 7 cone slolom on the way down to the far end... I slolom about 2-3 cones and I hear him shift to third and see him straight lining the whole thing... he wants to beat me to the lights any way possible! So I bail out of the slolom and go flat to the far end. By this time I'm laughing SO HARD that I miss the 90 degree turn at the end of the straight and and have to get my composure back... I look at him again and he's making a run for the finish... I finished it out and we both came in WAY under what we were running all weekend. What a rip! Course workers were cheering, people were laughing... I could barely talk after that run I was laughing so hard.

Wooten DQ'ed for not working because he and Motonishi were furiously trying to fix the Miata ...

From Ken:

>>>Lots of car problems. We got our Saturday afternoon runs DQ's since we had to get the car running for Kyung and didn't report to work.

First it was the alternator, then a corded tire, no oil in the engine, the
power steering failed and finally the radiator blew up. Was interesting
alright. It was just a bad weekend for Michael .. I felt bad for him and the
car.

He had to take Sunday runs in Chris Harvey's Miata after the radiator
exploded as I was lined up to do my final run on Sunday. I had no choice but to simply drive off the start line to not completely spill all the coolant
at the start line. It had to be the shortest DNF in history.<<<

When you redlight...aren't you technically supposed to be in front of the car that your racing???

Damn KC, you must be slow. Oh wait, you made it to the challenge...I drove home

No problem, KC! ;) Us FS pony car drivers gotta stick together, you know!

Karen

ps. on that note, I was really glad I ran FS this past weekend. We walked the course as a class on Saturday morning, and we celebrated our victories and our defeats together as a class on Sunday in impound. All 5 of us (6, if you count Heather too) run together locally, and we're pretty close knit. It was just a reaffirmation why, despite awesome rides like Joel's STi, I constantly migrate back to FS.

Oh and I saw that I had the 3rd fastest 60fts. of the weekend behind Daddio and a shifter kart. They were in the 1.63x-1.64x, I was in the 1.67x-1.68x :D

I worked the course when SM ran... is there any way for you to keep that rear wheel on the ground? It seemed that was a MAJOR factor in how predictably you came off the corners. As soon as that spinning wheel touched the ground it seemed like you had your hands full. INSTANTLY!

If you aren't the Blue STi in SM than disregard my statements.

Corey #89 STS
Storm 08-10-2005 11:32 PM

I don't want to put words in his mouth but from what he told me this weekend, he's got a different front bar that should keep the car planted.......If not...the earth will tilt a little bit to compensate.... :)

His driving will improve more once he gets some time in the evo school. That may help him smooth things out to keep the wheel planted a little longer instead of throwing the car around.

Jay Storm
SloRice 08-11-2005 09:27 AM

Corey, I definately agree with you. The inside rear tire spin is really starting to become an annoyance. I ran a couple local events with the RSB unhooked and that helped a little bit, but it was still lifting the tire on tight sweepers. I was actually going to try it both ways on Saturday....hooked up in the morning and unhooked in afternoon. But I got busy between my rounds and didn't get a chance to unhook it...plus my hangover was almost unbearable.

Unfortunately, I think my suspension is just way to soft for sticky R compounds. So i'll be upgrading the suspension over the winter and I also have the 32mm Strano Motorsports FSB sitting in my garage to be installed. As well as some other goodies I have planned.

As Jay said...I also need a lot of help as a driver ;)

I think it's the E36 BMW that doesn't need driving talent. E30s are harder to drive. So, I think he might have been taking a shot at those Texans like Matteucci and Mott. (hi, Jack!) ;)

Hey Jay,

The E30 has proven to be very competitive with the E36. Your Subaru, on paper, has the same displacement as the E30, similar weight, similar power, more advanced suspension and all wheel drive. But yet the only results that I could find with your name in it (Toledo Pro and Tour) show you to be several seconds off Alex's pace in the E30.

I wasn't there, but I'll be willing to wager that your time gap in the two Toledo events had little to do with the fact that your competition was in BMWs and had more to do with the fact that Alex S. is a lot better driver in a much better prepared car.

I'll be gridded two spots down from you at nationals. Feel free to stop by and say hi. We no talent BMW guys are generally pretty friendly :P

B Matteucci
Storm 08-17-2005 10:47 PM

I don't disagree.....totally. Here's a quote from another forum where I explained my statement. I've seen Alex on that forum as well, so I figured he'd find it there too. I guess I shoulda wrote it here too. Alex and have been running back and forth for years, long before he saw the success of his E30 in national level competition.
Jay, there seems to be a nice little feud between you and Alex on the Toledo ProSolo thread
Yeah....not sure why though. Seems like someone tipped him to that reply and he registered just to respond. No big deal though.

It's true that at least on the surface....the BMWs are easier to bring to top level of prep (and drive at that level) than the STi is. There is a "recipe for success" with the E36 chassis where the Subaru is arguably still a ways off from having the "ultimate" setup. I think he thought I was needling him personally.....but it was meant more toward the E36 chassis and SM relating to the STi in SM and specifically your driving improvements.

Maybe his trolling will bring him into this thread and he'll get an idea of what was meant vs what he figured.

See you in Topeka.

I just can't let that paragraph go without a reply..

There's a "recipe for sucess"?? Can you forward me a copy?? :-P

As far as street mod goes, the top BMWs have had several years head start in their development. Give Vic Sias or Bob Tunnell a call and ask them how "easy" it was to get to where they are at now. Also, they must have more than one recipe as Vic's and Bob's car are as different as two cars can be and still be called an E36 M3. Radically different suspension setup, drivetrains, wheel & tire selection just to start.

An STi will always have a tough time versus a good SM E36 BMW. The BMW is a lot lighter, smaller and it has much better weight distribution along with a lower polar moment of inertia. SM rules won't let an STi "fix" any of those disadvantages.

It's in F-Stock! Watch out next year Karen!!!

I e-mailed Doug Gill and it seemed like the better place for it since it's covered under 'All Trucks AWD'. Even tho the thing is built off the Legacy/Outback chassis, Subaru markets it as a truck and against other smaller trucks. It weighs 3610lbs, and there's also the Typhoon and Cyclone in FS... so it seems like the right place for it.
