Yes, you're allowed to take pictures. Pro companies will sometimes come out too and take pictures you can buy. I don't remember if Toledo did last year or not.

Just a few FYIs to any new folks.

Passengers are not allowed at National events. Usually not at Divisional events either.

For those that run in the afternoon, they will re-open the course for walk-throughs during lunch (which I think is between the 3rd and 4th heats). It can be handy to find a buddy who ran the course in the morning and have them walk with you and point out areas of the course that may have been "gotchas".

Last year I think they had Saturday lunch catered in for the Tour. There are also several fast-food joints near the airport: Subway, McD's, Wendy's. Turn right out of the event site, veer right at the split. At the "T"/traffic light, turn left (this is the road you came in on from the right if you came from the turnpike). The restaurants are about 2 miles down IIRC.

There are nice restaurants near the Maumee hotels. We'll probably head to one of these Friday night; if you want a dinner buddy, the more the merrier. Grab us and ask us where we're going. Saturday night is at Orion's. :)

Gas stations. There are a number of cheap gas stations nearby, but off the top of my head, I don't recall any "good" gas stations. There is a Sunoco about 8 miles away, but it's one of the ones that puts alcohol in their gas. :( So if you might possibly need gas, I suggest getting a gas can and bring 5 gallons with you (or get some at the Sunocos on the Ohio Turnpike). Fuel starving on an autocross course sucks...

There is no shade anywhere at the airport, except the tents they erect. Bring your sunscreen.

If you have a cooler, you might want to fill it with bottles of water/Gatorade/pop, then fill it with ice at the hotel. They provided water last year, but I seem to recall the supply running low by Sunday afternoon.
Thanks for the advice, but I think I'm still going to become clueless again once I see the size of the course. :o I noticed I get to run with CS, as I have for all four local events I've done so far this year, so I get to compare my runs to Paul, Buddy, Chip, and Mike since I have no chance of getting near the front in ES.

Oh and to rub it in to Ed and Jay, when we do local events I usally hit my fuel light somewhere on the 20-25 mile drive to ESM or LCCC and I still can do all my runs without any starvation issues on the MR2. :D
:eek: Ideal fuel level.....That's funny.... :furious:

For us it's when the fuel begins to splash onto your foot..... :rolleyes:

Jay I picked up a MRT in-tank surge tank thing. I paid way too much for it, but I may have someone duplicate it. It's also not real compatible with the pressure/temp sensor. The one nice thing about it is that the fuel return dumps back into the "tank" which is nothing more than a rubber box thing. Looks like this:

Good luck to everyone in Toledo!
i'll have Rally Turkey (and some of the other recent '05 WRC events) on DVD there.
Yay! I found out Tuesday night that our DVR filled on Saturday, so no Rally Turkey. :( So I'm very glad you have it. :)

I have a 4X8 trailer I tow all my tools etc... on will I have enough space for the trailer? I just don't know how cramped space is in the participant parking area.

J

Orion, do you want me to PM you my cell or will you PM interested cook-out people with directions? I may not have my laptop after tonight so I am just wondering what's up.
dwx 06-09-2005 05:31 PM

80% of the cars there are trailered, I don't think you'll have a problem finding a 4x8 spot. That and the lot is huuuuuge.
Orion 06-09-2005 05:37 PM
That and the lot WAS huuuuuge.
corrected. ;) you might have missed my earlier statement. there's now a plane junkyard running along the back fence of the lot, effectively cutting off the old grids and tech areas.

Justin -

plenty of participant parking but try to get there as early as you can. people bring all sorts of extra crap to Tours there.

i'll be there early to make some runs with Phillip in both our cars tomorrow at the TnT, but go ahead and PM your number tonight. i'll have my cel and i'll PM you the number and my parents number right now.

I had a great time up there. It was good meeting some of you, and good seeing some others again. All of us in ESP had hoped for two dry days on a "traditional" autocross course. We didn't get either of those, but I had a blast banging third gear rev limiter throughout the weekend!

:lol: ha...I only banged 2nd....hmmm....someone ^^ was going hella fast!!

it was great to meet the ESP crew, everyone was really nice to me even when I was sleeping in the grid. ;) I am feeling better, but I am really, really tired.

I reset the Ecutek gauge pod "peak" values each day:
Friday = 73 mph
Saturday = 71 mph
Sunday = 69 mph

I'd say it was rather fast!
SloRice 06-13-2005 12:53 PM

I wasn't banging the rev limiter in 3rd, but I was damn close :lol:

I was happy with my performance on Saturday. But Sunday was pretty dissappointing. Just couldn't get it together in the back slolam section. The car was just way to tail happy and I couldn't dial it out in 3 runs.

That was basically just a huge left hand turn around the middle slalom cone, so you were probably having an issue with the car rotating too much in steady-state. That's not easy to tune out in grid, as it usually takes a change to spring rates, swaybar, or alignment. Sometimes playing with the tire pressures can help, however. It's easier when you're trying to change corner entry/exit or transitional response because you can just adjust the shocks and go...
dwx 06-13-2005 02:46 PM

Joel are you using any helper/tender springs with your GC setup? I didn't last year but I was thinking of using some this year.
AUTOwrXER 06-14-2005 05:27 PM

I am not, but I think it would be a good idea in the rear to help keep the inside wheel on the ground.
