During qualifying go sit directly accross from JPM's pit amidst the huge Columbian contingent in the penthouse (second story) bleacher seats. It will be an eye opening experience. You need to get there a few hours prior to stake out your seats. It will fill up tight. Other than that, walk the infield to see and feel the cars.

Want to save money? Camp and then buy reg addmission for Friday and Sat then buy scalped tickets for Sunday.

I've camped about 10 minutes west of the track directly accross (west) from Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP). About $24 a night and you're out of town in the relative quiet with lots of room. Make a fire, have a drink, sleep like a baby.

True, that was pretty fun last year.

Intoxication > me.
Bagelw 06-15-2005 11:14 AM

I just ordered my corral pass so I'll see you guys Saturday. This will be my first F1 race to attend.

I hardly ever make it to Indy for the nightlife. Where do you guys suggest? I have heard that broad ripple is so packed that it is no fun. What about the Slippery Noodle? Any other places we should check out on Saturday night?

Keep in mind I am the youngest of the group and I am 31.
mno 06-15-2005 01:51 PM

The street the noodle is on has about 10 bars within walking distance. You will find tons of stuff to do. We party Thursday to Saturday and love every second of it.

So if we go to the noodle and it is lame we will be able to find another place to party in the area pretty easy?
mno 06-15-2005 04:26 PM

Honestly if you look out the door of the noodle you can see numerous bars across the street.
02wrxracer 06-15-2005 04:39 PM

this may be a dumb question but parking in the corral is free right?

It's going to be a LLLLOOOONNNNNGGGGGG night.
mno 06-16-2005 11:10 AM

See you all there. Leaving working and driving there!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait..
mno 12-30-2005 12:55 AM

So I work for Hilton and called the Conrad(owned by Hilton) the best rate I could get is 485 per night.

mno is sorry he whined about the Embassy Suites.
MJU1983 12-30-2005 01:01 AM

Yeah I checked a couple downtown for next year... MOFO'n $1300+ for 3 nights and prepay to reserve room? or not.......................
Homemade WRX 12-30-2005 01:28 AM

I should be at the GP...I won't be at the 500 because of FSAE competition thouhg :(
I'm actually in Indy right now visiting my with some friends...been to the track twice this week already ;)
I guess I'm lucky, I have a free place to stay.
artkevin 12-30-2005 09:59 AM

Yes, if you've not booked a hotel yet do it now. None of the hotels in the city waited for the FIA to announce the date of the race and they opened up too many blocks of rooms too soon. There are very very few left in the city. I don't think the average F1 fan is aware that they will need to book their room 7 months in adavnce and get screwed on the price.

Kevin where do you plan on staying?? You gonna trade art for your rooms again??

I plan on getting to town the Thursday before.
sspicollo8 12-31-2005 07:08 PM

Have you guys got your tickets yet? I was thinking I saw where some people had a few weeks ago, but mine still aren't here. It says "Processed" on the USGP site.

I realize you are talking about downtown, but I got a motel 15min away last year the month before hand. A lot of the hotels that say they are full aren't and open up rooms at the last minute and also drop their minumum stay rules.
artkevin 01-02-2006 08:59 PM

Yeah, kinda I guess. I will be working with Red Bull to do their party/ies and I will be staying with them at the Hilton Garden Inn. I hope to be doing a series of paintings for them and maybe a large live one at the patry. Nothing is inked yet though so cross your fingers for me. I will be staying on the North side of town Wed and Thurs night though at another hotel that I have worked with before.
I am having my show again at the Hyatt downtown if any of you want to come by, its free. I have not recieved my tickets yet for the races either.

Hilton Garden Inn is nice. What rate did you get??
artkevin 01-03-2006 09:27 AM

Well, since I am working with RBR and STR its part of the deal. I think the rates are $300 a night but Red Bull has purchased just about every room in the hotel for the weekend.

Good luck man! Seems like you and Red Bull have a good thing going :) If the wife and I make it out to Indy this year we'll definitely check out your show.

All this room discussion is pretty similar to what happens in LA for E3 every year. All the big gaming co's come in and buy massive blocks of rooms in the best downtown hotels, then the rest of we press peons are left scrambling to get whatever overpriced hotel rooms are left. The only difference is the hotels that sign up to be a part of the E3 festivities (which is all of them, more or less) are prohibited to selling rooms to the media before 1/9, so on Monday there'll be a mad scramble to get rooms. And, if it goes like the last two years, I'm gonna be stuck in some dive miles away from the joint :(
artkevin 01-03-2006 02:58 PM

I didn't know you are in the industry Tim. Explains a lot of you posts now!
Hope to see you at the show.
TimStevens 01-03-2006 03:02 PM

Shore am... for better or worse. You too?
artkevin 01-03-2006 05:56 PM

Nope. I have a 8-5 working on sales numbers, spread sheets and what not. Boring as hell but gives me the energy/outlet for the art stuff at night.
TimStevens 01-03-2006 06:02 PM

Ahh, I was thinking you were profitable enough to be able to quit the day job. :)

I'm in the same situation so far... boring isht by day, gaming journalist extraordinairre by night.
artkevin 01-03-2006 08:25 PM

I guess we are both working for the same dream: To one day be fat and lazy doing exactly what we want and getting paid for it.
TimStevens 01-03-2006 08:46 PM

Nah, don't want to be fat and lazy. I'd settle for stressed and a little overworked, but smiling at the end of the day after doing something I love all day :)
Homemade WRX 01-04-2006 12:12 AM

well turns out I might be doing the indy 500 instead...I'm doing one or the other this year and then the other next year....thinking I'll do GP next year with the new aero design...
mno 01-13-2006 03:20 PM

Just made my dinner reservation at Ruth's Chris for Saturday night. Need to call St. Elmo for Friday evening.
Homemade WRX 01-13-2006 09:27 PM

well, I'm doing USGP this year...with the local mbw club...all I can eat and drink along with parking for the 3 day for $80...
mno 01-26-2006 01:06 PM

Made my reservation today at the not yet open Conrad hotel. This is the premier hotel in the mid-west and I won't tell you how much the rooms was. But all I can say is OOOONTZ!!
mno 01-27-2006 09:10 PM

Kevin what will your prices be this year?? Any Nasioc discounts.
artkevin 01-27-2006 11:22 PM

Yeah mno, there will be discounts. I have a handy dandy formula to work out pricing but they range between about $650 to about 2 or 3 grand for the really big ones. Just let me know who you are and what you want and a deal can always be made. I just want people who want them to have them. If I make good money too then all the better.

Sounds good. PM and let me know when we get closer to race day and we can work it out.
artkevin 01-28-2006 09:14 AM

Will do. I can't wait for the season to start but I got a LOT of work ahead of me.

No joke.

We should to get a small meet going at bar.

I know the Conrad has a cigar bar.
artkevin 01-31-2006 08:53 PM

Works for me. I will be in town from Wednesday night through Monday.
mno 02-02-2006 10:30 AM

Sounds good. As it get closer we can set it all up.
mno 04-07-2006 12:23 AM

Any others make plans and book hotels yet??
mno 06-08-2006 11:14 PM

What is everyone doing??
artkevin 06-09-2006 01:15 AM
