C'mon people - lets get this price under the magic $300 mark !
I saw a CF piece like this for $700 + from anoter vendor and the FRP rplicas for nearly $400 !! I wish to be added !!
This is sweet! - no need to paint .....
Which brings me to a question I have:
Will these be UV-Protection "GEL-COATED" ... wouldn't want this gorgeous piece to turn yellow after a few months, especially here in Sunny So-Cal !
Thanks!
PM Sent - add me to GB !

Hi Roland:
Yes it will have the gel coated on. One of the reason a carbon fiber piece turn yellow is because the resin used by the factory to hold the carbon fiber together are not the right mixture or poor quality.
We have full confidense on this factory because their products are sold through out Japan. They are known for the quality of their products.

This will contrast great with any of the WRX colors .. especially if you got a CF bling bling hood!

Ravspec,
Is the picture indeed what we are going to get? It looks quite a bit different in shape than the V-limited lip. It is about half the depth in the front and it's a lot thicker. Reason I ask, is one reason I want a lip of this type is the added benefit to downforce that the STi V-Limited lip provides.
Would you happen to have some real closeup (BIG) pics of this thing at multiple angles?
Just want to make sure I'm not purchasing just a cosmetic mod here.
Thanks.

Well it sounds as if the V-Limited and the S203 lip have some differences as well. And in order to be kosher with the law, this lip would have to also be at least a little different from either one of those I believe. The question is, is this lip closer to the V-Limited or the S203 then?

In three days, we got 30 people to join. At this rate, we will have more than 40 to 50 people. We are currently negotiating for lower price and hopefully we can get this down more for all of you. Just to make sure that everyone on the list is serious, we will be taking deposit of $150 starting Jan 1, 2005. This is to make sure that the number of people actually serious about the GB is right.

If you got this down to something like $250 shipped I think there would be a TON of people getting serious real quick. Even at the $300 mark it sounds like a mighty fine deal to me, but if you work it much lower that I will definately have to add you to my favorite vendors list and buy lots more stuff from you in the future ;)

We will try to get into the $250 mark. Problem now is the freight charge. Inital calculation on freight, bonds, duty tax alone is $2000 to $2500 for 30 to 40 pieces. That is about $60 to $70 extra per lip.
We are trying to see if we can share a container with a distributor of ours to cut down on shipping.

BTW ravspec, another question, will i need to drill any of my own holes, or will the lip have preset mounting spots. Do you or anyone else know if the bumper splitters need any modification to make the lip attach either? im not very good at cutting holes in my car. Also, providing hardware is a great idea, theres nothing worse, than gettnig a package and not being able to install it immediately because batteries/hardware is not included.

I have asked RavSpec multiple times on multiple forums about the effects this lip will have on downforce/drag etc.
I have yet to get even an educated guess, yet alone one response.
Please RavSpec, do you have any information on the aero properties of this lip?
Obviously I don't think we're expecting wind tunnel R&D here, but the desgn IS definitely different than the V-limited lip-I can see that by just looking at the pictures.
Please respond.

From 2 different vendor sites...
The STi "V" limited spoiler is found on the 2004 STi "Sohlberg Limited Edition" Sedan. Creates more downforce on the front end.(36% Impovement in CD). STI engineers spent hours in the wind tunnel developing this special lip spoiler. Comes unpainted in semi-flat black.
ME:
This lip seems to look much closer in shape to the Cuscu lip vs. the V-Limited lip. I have no (can't find any) info on any benefits of the Cusco lip.
What does this lip do with the center gap between the side-splitters? Does it fill in that gap? I wish I had a closeup of the front more at a flatter level.

Just by looking at the SIZE & ANGLE the lip extends away from the body one can guesstimate that this lips - as well as the V-Limited or S203's - and may others for that matter will not give you racecar downforce performance ! - that does not mean it is not "functional" - then again..... "functionality" depends, in this case, on the criteria one establishes.... will it provide downforce - it probable will.... so yes it may be "functional" - same as the the OEM rear airfoil... as many of us know... you'll need to be going upwards of 75mph to get any downforce from it - and it's not in vast amounts either.
The lift coefficient of the airfoil is what determines its effectiveness in aerodymanic performance - for automotive puposes you want "downforce" so that the "lift" direction is downward.
You have to understand that it really takes alot of area / speed / airfoil angle in order to generate enough lift to make your car stick to the road more... just look at any race car - now those drivers are taking tight turns at 80mph+ at that speed the airfoils become functional (YES - I know some work at lower speeds! - I'm just arbitrarily picking a speed that would more closely match the speed of a smaller-size front airfoil)
Now, take a look at the equations below & consider,
Notice how AREA & VELOCITY are important factor on drag & lift....
The V-Limited style/size lips don't have that much area so I would venture to say you would need to be going at very high rates of speed in order to get any usable downforce!
You really need windtunnel testing to obtain data for calculating downforce as a function of speed - any company can claim their lip generates downforce - They most likely do have downforce - but you never see actual numbers as in "100-lbs of downforce at 75 mph"

You only get about 47 lb of downforce at 100 mph for a 1.5 square-foot total area lip - using the lift equation with a very efficient CL = 1.2 (seen on aircraft mostly) - this result is very optimistic however....
where r = density of air @ sea level = 1.25 kg/m^3
V = 100 mph = 146.7 ft/sec
L = 1.2*0.5*(0.0807 lb/ft^3)*[(146.7 ft/sec)^2]*1.5 ft^2
L = (1510 lbft/sec^2)/ 32.2 ft/sec^2
L = 46.9 lb (hopefully pointd downwards!)
well enough of the aerodynamic stuff.....
The lip is just very good-looking and very well-priced
The Subaru S203 has a replica of this one :D

So even if it only provides 20 lbs of downforce @ 75 mph - I'm getting it - it just looks that sweet.....
Almost all of the mods to my STi have been performance-enhancing (suspension/elecronics) - i'ts time for some CF bling !!

The main aerodynamic advantage of the lip is going to be from keeping air going under the car. Think of it as the extending the leading edge of a wing (in this case the whole car is the rest of the wing), and not a seperate wing unto itself (like a rear deck mounted wing). The more air you get moving over the car relative to below it, the more downforce you'll get.

As you can see there are so many factors in aerodynamics...... that's why only F1 cars and high-budgets race teams can actually do those tests and design their parts accordingly

Thanks for posting that closeup of the S203's lip-now that I am comparing that to the pics of our RavSpec one, it looks pretty darn close. Hopefully ours will have that same steep slant too. Sorry about all the noise.
All right now hurry up and get our lips done!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:
Hey - no problem! There's nothing wrong with the questions you asked - and in fact they were very good questions - especially if you're spending a decent amount of your hard earned $$ !
I think the lip should look very close to the S203's .... very cool indeed
Sent my deposit already too !! :disco: :banana:

Before i put my name on this list. Does the V-Limited Lip only work with the STi Front bumper splitter?

I'm afraid that is the case! - if you look at the pics - it matches to the bottom of the STi splitters
You can buy the OEM "Corner Splitters" for your 04 WRX or RS already pre-painted to match your car from here for $125 !
http://www.subaruwrxparts.com/04wrx-exterior.html
Not that much more for an awesome looking front end !!

I agree but buying the STi Splitters plus the Replica V-limited lip can get pricey. With both I am now in the price territory of the cusco front lip.
Plus with the fog lights and the splitters and the front lip... things can look "busy" looking in the front end which is why i might go for the cusco...
Looks like i gotta make a pros and cons list now.

Hehehe - true, Cusco lip is nice! don't forget to include cost of painting for the Cusco lip.
I considered buying the Cusco lip as well until this CF lip came out!

Sweet!
you should have requested 7 lips .... so you could ship to the first 6 in the GB list - I'm # 6 :D
RavSpec : Just wanted to mention this is one of the BEST GB I've seen..... all the updates, pictures, pricing, response to questions....... exemplary!!

I COMPLETELY agree with this one. I really haven't liked GBs done over on IWS.com as they are terribly unorganized typically (the Typhoon GB was awful and had to be scraped and restarted). Mark has been very responsive, even to PMs and emails, and has maintained the list himself with frequent updates. He is definately putting in a ton of work on this and it is very appreciated. Now it is a waiting game to see when his proto lip comes in and we get more first-hand pics and opinions on it.
Thanks!!
