Wait, this isn't a lowrider convention? RALLY MONTE CARLO starts 1/18! part 3
We'll see how long that last's when it comes to the snow events. I am betting a much lower finish. Say 6th ish?

Has anyone noticed, every time they have in-car footage from the EVO's, there is a "whoosh snap" sounds every so often. I only hear it within those cars. Any ideas?

-Dan
I'm pretty sure it has to do with the hydrualic shifting mechanism.

Sordo has been fast on Tarmac all of his career. Plus he is using Seb's set ups on most all of the rallies, especially the tarmac rallies and Monte. It is hard to say Loeb is rubbing off on Sordo when Sordo was good on the surface and is just using whatever Seb is using...

And Day 3 (via torrent) up at what seems to be a new source:

Fantastic job by Atkinson.
ScoobyBoy 01-22-2007 10:22 PM

great season opener. swrt seems to be getting there. solberg was a bit of a let down, but at least he's in the top 8 with no issues. hopefully he'll regain his confidence soon. the battle with atkinson and Hirvonen was very suspenceful.
i cant wait til sweden!
shige 01-22-2007 11:35 PM

Well, I think SWRT did OK. Yes, they could have done better but they weren't the only ones who ran the wrong compound tires. The Auzzie did really well though. I always like the battles between him and Hivonren.

Only 15 day's till Sweden!
XtremePsionic 01-23-2007 12:29 AM

I wish SWRT did better too, it's a long season ahead of us still, should be fun to watch :)
littlefluffybunnies 01-23-2007 02:24 AM

oh my hat... i watched the coverage last night..
what an awesome start to what looks like a spectacular 2007 wrc season
the sounds, the looks, the style.. hahaha. effing love it!!

guys.. omg.. sordo is incredibly fast!!
loeb looked as surprised as i think everyone else was
Slick33 01-23-2007 09:41 AM

Glad to see the organizers pull it together and run a smooth event that didn't result in any SS cancellations (I guess I can take back my previous remark regarding the matter).
It's also great to see night-time rallies return! I don't recall reading anything regarding that during the off-season, so it was a pleasant surprise! I do hope that Monte isn't starting a trend of 2 full competition days with the third day being the special stage closer, though..I need my full 3-day fix!
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the C4 completely sucks ass on snow and gravel...I have a feeling that's gonna be quite a long shot, though. :(

Yeha Eurosport seems to have improved their coverage alot. I noticed alot of helicopter shots and more on-car cameras.

The C4s are going to be a force to be reckoned with this year.

I hope the new impreza comes out and dominates!
StuBeck 01-23-2007 12:56 PM

Day 3's coverage was pretty boring. I think I spent about 5 minutes watching it.
LOLSTi 01-23-2007 01:19 PM

I'm going to go ahead and sackride Atkinson and Sordo this year.

Are you kidding? Th Hirv/Atkinson battle was intense. .2 seconds!1

sorry to hear.
Crzykdd 01-23-2007 03:45 PM

So far the 07 WRC coverage is much better than last year. Having another full factory backed team (Citroen) back in the WRC definetly helps, bringing back money into the WRC that was sorely missing last year.

I certainly hope the other teams can take it to Citroen the next few rallies tho, gets old seeing the French dominate WRC so much :)

Anyone know what the 07/08 Subaru WRC car to debut in Mexico, will look like??

I'm wondering if it will be the new body style or just the same current one with updates..

-Jason
spdracr00 01-23-2007 03:49 PM

from what i hear it will look the same but be different under the skins. once agian if you're looking for wrc, look no further than the mule.. :)

I was referring more to the organizers who ran the rally itself more than the TV coverage, but you did bring up a point I'd forgotten. The extended helicopter stuff was fantastic...I hope we see more of that in future rallies (monte always seemed to get the most helicopter coverage of the season)
bemani 01-23-2007 06:20 PM

Good job Chris!
I guess we have to root for a new Subaru driver's champion anyway, since no one can repeat it in a Subaru. Sorry Petter, history's against you.

I never thought about it that way.
moxnix 01-23-2007 06:31 PM

I found the day three coverage to be very nice. I thought it was funny to watch the high HP cars drive around the street on snow tires.

The extended helicopter stuff was nice to see but I am sure that is because it was such nice weather out that you could actually see things from the helicopter.
shige 01-23-2007 08:07 PM

I finally got around to watching round 3. Atkinson did great! The live coverage was a bit confusing. (They kept showing Gronhelm.)
Crzykdd 01-23-2007 09:48 PM

Anyone know where one can get high res pictures from the rallies w/out having to register/pay membership??

There was a time when you could from sites like rallylive.com...

Thanks!

For Subaru Pictures:

The swrt.com site has a membership thing, but google gives you a link to the gallery.
WRXedUSA 01-23-2007 10:26 PM

Hmm. That link to the vids wants wierd codecs on day 3's coverage. No prob with 1-2

It's xvid and mp3, not exactly "weird."
SiNzz 01-24-2007 12:32 AM

This is the first time I've downloaded/watched WRC. I'm absolutely hooked, given that I usually cannot stand to watch sports or motorsports on TV. I can't believe speed would rather have us watch NASCAR cars driving in circles than rally cars ripping through narrow roads in the french mountains. Thankgod for rallytorrents.
burned 01-24-2007 03:29 AM

Move to europe :D. Here there isnt a single oval track but Nardo which is used for high spead tests not for racing.

The coverage was good but i shure did miss the ice on the roads and it looks like snow outside now a week to late :)

I think the only 2 people not asleep on the last stage was Chris and Mikko. That's the most boring super special track I've seen. No wonder Petter need to do some donuts to relief the boredom. Plus one stage only on day 3? Geez just have to take up everyone's day for that one stage don't they? Could've ran it on any other day ...

I'm having trouble getting day 3 ... did Petter get penalized like his brother did last year in Cyprus (3-race "suspended" ban)?

Really, that is why I skipped over it. There was one interesting corner, they should have done the full GP course instead of the boring parts.

Try joining http://www.racing-underground.com. They have the rally torrents as well as torrents of the Rally-Live picts in hi-res.

I think the reason for the the 'boring' day 3 was because it was only one stage and everyone was fairly well seated in the standings except Mikko and Chris. That was the one place in the top 10 that was close enough to make a difference. Even after Sordo's bad start, he was still 50-some seconds ahead of third place so he din't have to push and risk damaging the car.
Patrick Olsen 01-25-2007 02:01 PM

I started downloading the videos from www.rally703.com - thus far I've only dl'd the Monaco preview. I can't get it to play, though. I've tried Media Player, Divx Player, RealMedia Player, and Quicktime. The last one just locked up, RM and Media Player both played audio but no video, and Divx played audio and video, but the video was garbage. None of the programs prompted me to download new codecs, so what's the deal?

Thanks,
Pat
LastResort 01-25-2007 02:10 PM

You've got some issues with the codecs you have on the computer, it sounds like. Try grabbing "Media Player classic" and let us know what happens.
Really, that is why I skipped over it. There was one interesting corner, they should have done the full GP course instead of the boring parts.
It would have been awesome for them to have run the full GP course on real tarmac tires instead of the snow tires they were forced to run on. Maybe next year?
Mopho 01-25-2007 05:42 PM

Did anyone notice that when Latvala crashed sideways into the stone wall, he may have hit a camera man?

It depends on how close he actually was but it happened so fast, I can't imagine the guy got out of the way in time
TimStevens 01-25-2007 07:24 PM

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think he was saved by that wall, thank goodness. Lucky the car didn't spin around on the back of the wall.
bemani 01-26-2007 12:10 AM

They can't run the GP course man:lol: Everyone know the GP course by heart.
WRXedUSA 01-26-2007 01:46 AM

The FIA probably didnt want the WRC cars to set comprable times to the F1 cars.

Same deal - black screen with audio coming through just fine. I guess I'll try downloading the video file again, maybe my first attempt got screwed up somehow.

Edit: Nope, that didn't fix it either. :(

Pat
TimStevens 01-26-2007 06:16 AM

Pat. Go Start -> Control Panel -> Display. Click on the "Settings" tab then click on "Advanced." Click on the "Troubleshoot" tab and there should be a slider there that says "Hardware acceleration." Try that at different positions. For whatever reason the video card on my laptop won't play any videos unless it's all the way to the left or on the second to the left notch.
LastResort 01-26-2007 09:08 AM

Try this:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm
It's a OpenSource codec that does DivX, XviD, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. I use that, and Real Alternative, and Quicktime Alternative.
RBelcher00 01-26-2007 05:34 PM

I use VLC media player. Never had any problems watching anyyyyyyyy of the torrents I've downloaded eeeeverrr.
Maybe try that after you update your codecs.
HomerJay 01-27-2007 04:19 PM

That was really fun to watch the SS stages at the end. I hope they keep it in next year.
