Guys do you think its achieveable to get a V7 Sti to 1300kg/2866lbs inc a T45 cage whilst retaining stock panels and glass?
Stock doors will be gutted but remain steel.
Full interior strip,
No AC
No U brace
Carbon buckets etc.
Am I dreaming or can this be achieved?

Sure it can.
Read through this thread and you'll see lots of great ideas!
It'll either be a lot of work or very expensive though.

Should not be an issue if those are the general requirements. You leave a lot of options on the table to pull weight. Just likely spending some $ or you need some fab skills.
As stated lots of good info in this thread, and a LOT of little parts to remove.

I've removed heaps so far, but it will also be getting a full T45 cage added.
I think I've done everything in this thread except keeping the stock panels and glass.
However it does wear an APS FMIC, AP Racing brakes all round, a GT35R and larger ARBs etc which all add weight. :(

If you have CVT you can chop your left leg off at the hip and probably save about 30 pounds.

At least from a V8 or V9 spec c

I finally had some time to work on my car so I picked the big items to remove / change . Starting weight was 3344 with a little under a half of a tank and some coats and work junk in the car.

So my plan was to put coilovers on , different rims , my Spec-C trunk , remove the light bar, remove the U-brace, lighter battery, clean the junk out of the inside, and I already have removed the front bumper ( the 2002 weight is 30#'s because it has extra protection for the fog lights.

So I'm calling it a nice even 2700lbs. Not bad for a 6 cylinder turbo 6 speed car I think!

I've got a GT4094R waiting to go on, but I need to do a ton of supporting mods first. Probably will go on Winter 2016. That should net me a comfortable 700hp.

Probably I got it from a guy on here , I had it on and took it off for the weight reduction, but I am going to run it for winter. I just wish it was aluminum.
Update on my car I picked up some gram lights 57F 5 spoke really light wheel + tire I am around 39/40 lbs . Total car weight is 2840 with a half tank no driver. I am in the process of doing sound deadening removal.
Just curious has anyone with a lightweight GD done a 0-60 or 1/4 mile time ? Or if your car is close to my weight, my hp is 300 to the wheels. I kinda feel like I have more lag now with less weight, it doesn't feel slower just that it is not using the turbo the same way. It's only a butt dyno feeling.
:lol::lol:
Probably I got it from a guy on here , I had it on and took it off for the weight reduction, but I am going to run it for winter. I just wish it was aluminum.

Probably needs a retune.
Tuning for a different weight, just another concept that is too outside of the box for some tuners.
The battery is the most cost-effective pure weight savings I've done - saved a good 30 lbs over the battery that came in the car, should be 26-27 lbs over what I've usually seen listed as stock battery weight (31 lbs).
We're in a cooler climate in NW Washington, so-far no winter issues. Spec's are decent anyhow, with 540 CCA.
Installed in stock location, with a Braille mounting kit (you can get as good for $7 at an auto parts store, 7" mounting studs plus a shorter plastic bracket), and I bought an M6 to SAE Top Post Battery Terminal Adapter. I used one terminal on the + side for better fitment, attached the wires directly to the battery on the - side.
Sorry for bringing this up from the dead...
But how has this battery lasted?
I've read a few posts about battery melting and overheating.

I ripped out the entire carpet section of my 13 sedan WRX. Painted it black to match the rest of the car and get rid of the ugly tar.
Honestly I weighed it and it was 22lbs of carpet + insulation. No more sneaky spiders...easiest clean ever... And I love the rawness of it.
I wire tucked most of the open wires and the plastic covers on front covers most of them.
You also gain cool points at the car meet and extra racecar sounds... That spool...

Very nice, how'd you hide those wires??
| krisk | 11-21-2015 01:53 PM |
Wow that's pretty RAW!
What did you have to remove beyond the seats to remove the carpet?

The wires on the side of the seats are hidden underneath the plastic covers on the side...
There's a white plastic cover that held up the carpet so I trimmed it and painted it black...
Before the covers were put on

After the covers were painted and put on...

The ones underneath the carpet got hidden underneath the dash and the rest through the middle plastic covers...

I Removed the seats and there's some insulation along the transmission wall...
There's also the foot A/c vent that sticks out so I just trimmed it.
The 4th "pedal" that lays next to the clutch for your foot to rest was actually glued to the carpet...
Underneath that pedal UNDER the carpet was a metal bracket for support.I ripped it out of the carpet, epoxied it to the metal bracket and then reinstalled.
I love the rawness of it...

On a DD....Why...
It's not a track car:rolleyes:
My car was the loudest thing I ever drove in. hated it. I added more weight to quiet it down.
100lbs added or lost is only 0.10 sec faster in the 1/4mi
So, big whooptie doo.
I guess I'm getting too old for the 'rawness' factor.

My DD is my track, autox car...
For my lifestyle, decisions and passion... This feeds what I hunger for...
Your tastebuds, or likes are yours... And I respect it and you also.
I did the same on my 09 Hatchback and that's the wife's car... We're a Subie family!

Im almost 33 and I think weight reduction is the best mod possible. my DD is gutted down to around 2780lbs. from 3085. I guess you dont like better handling, acceleration, braking, gas mileage

You should get 4 extra 200 lbs passengers in your car and do a 0-60 test , then a braking test with all of them in the car . Make sure you have a stop watch to record it. Then test your car with out them . Then you might like weight reduction.
Reducing weight on our cars from 3k plus pounds if you have speakers and such down to sub 2850 the difference is very noticeable .
And doing safe mods that reduce weight can also increase MPGs if that is your focus , so be a little more open minded.
