who knows of a higher quality carpet kit part 2

Frank 04-13-2001 11:21 AM

Why not just invest in a really nice set of mats? That would cover up the carpet anyway???
deepbeep 04-13-2001 01:19 PM

I don't think a mat would cover the areas that need pile-high reinforcement in my car... I seem to have a knack of putting my feet out of range of the mats that are in there...
Frank 04-13-2001 01:24 PM

why not gut the carpet and get some hardcore Diamond Plating? That would be badass.

Albert 04-14-2001 09:23 PM

Got some good news; received a response from a rep at http://www.shadetreeonline.com about making an plush moldede carpet.
He,(Paul), intends to present the idea to his design team for a feasibility check, and to find out how many preorders would require to make the mold.

**In the mean time he wants to know:
1. Is the 93-01 Impreza floor pan the same; how far back in application can they go if they make a mold from a 2.5RS?

2. How many people are are ready to order now?
------------
We didn't discuss colors,(one step at a time).
Based on his questions I think they will only consider this if there is a market for at least 1000 pieces. Maybe our subaru vendors will fill orders for their own inventory to support the initial run after the preorders.

They currently make molded carpet for the Brat @ $285, and the 74-84 GL @ $224.

We might need a volunteer in the Orlando area for the mold if they agree. Could one of you guys in Orlando stop by their shop to check on craftsmanship, and push the cause.

Again, I need to know now what model years Imprezas the mold from a RS floor pan will fit.
Pls post here, PM, or email me with info, he need it for his Monday morning proposal.

Overtime 04-14-2001 09:40 PM

Kevin, Albert, and whoever else is working on this... put me down as an interested party.

Stock carpet is starting to get absolutely torn to pieces. If someone has a good quality aftermarket alternative...I'm all for it.
Digital_Boy 04-14-2001 09:40 PM

Albert, aside from an extra set of seat rail bolt holes on either side of the transmission tunnel, the RS and non-RS floorboards are identical from 1993-2001, as far as I've been able to tell from the 3 'Ru's I've had (95L , 98 and 99RS). So a RS carpet kit would be a universal fit for ANY Impreza. At least as far as the coupes go, anyway.
Albert 04-14-2001 10:49 PM

Wow,... did a post here 2hrs ago and now I don't see it, oh well.

Anyway, found a place in Orlando, FL that might be interested. His design team will decide next week. http://www.shadetreeonline.com

He wants to know how many are ready to purchase now.

If he uses the 2.5RS floor pan to mold the carpet which other model years will it also fit? I told him MY93-01, am I correct?

They make carpets for the Brat/$285, and the 74-84 GL/$224. Looks like they got stuck with excess so I'm sure they are gonna specificy a sizable run to get a good return. Hope for the best.

I asked the guys in Central Florida to check them out, and to lineup a volunteer for the mold if they agree.

Albert

OK, looks like 95-01 2dr coupe are interchangable.

-Anyone with input on a 93/94?

-How is carpet different for 4dr at the rear door sill area?(Someone done the fuel door release mod or stereo upgrade might know)

-Does 93-97 base models have a drivers foot rest?

-We will specify no cutout for the fuel door level each purchaser will do own.

Any further info will be appreciated. I intend shoot him an email late tonight.

Latinsklls, from the Orlando area has volunterred for the mold. We'll discuss colors, backing/padding, and weave/plushness if and when they agree.

Not sure if this will be a group-buy or individual orders. If preorders become a group-buy we will need someone, (not me), to coordinate this.

Well since i live in the Orlando are and have a want for the better carpet, I can help coordinate it if you'd all like for me too.

Anyways, just keep my posted via PM or e-mail at [email protected]

Hope we can make something out of this. I don't like the idea of a shi**y carpet for my custom interior work that will include audio and leather interior.

This thread is another reason why i-club is so cool. Once they have the kit ready I will send them a check. I'd like to call one of the first kits because I started the thread [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img] I do want it to be a HIGH QUALITY kit though. I don't want a shotty replacement for my current shotty carpet.

Does WRXgirl still sell the cool trunk mat? Where can I find out more info. I am totally down with that. Wasn't there some design with a cool trunk monkey too?
Albert 04-16-2001 10:47 PM

Sent the email with all the info he requested last night, Sunday.

Didn't have any confirmed difference between 2 and 4 dr at rear sills so I just didn't say anything about that.

Production is not yet approved, I'll post when I have a decision.

Tomas,
You must have worded your original post better than mine from a few months ago - I asked the exact same question and replies were lukewarm. Anyhow, I was the first to reply to your post about the molded carpet interior and am still 100% interested in a quality carpet - it would make me enjoy my car so much more.

I have not received a respose from the manufacturer in Orlando, Florida yet.

I am going to ask around Rochester this week to see if anybody is willing to do it. I don't understand why somebody wouldn't want to. Right now we have 34 people on the list. If you figure 25/34 actually buy a new kit @ around $300 that is a good chunk of cash for somebody.

Latinskllz, glad you checked in. Paul responded and said he is still waiting for "them" to decide.

He said that one of you guys in the area dropped by to see him; was that you?

He also stated the initial mold will be done in Dalton, GA, or Anniston, (??).

So...., if these guys decide to start production we will need someone around Dalton, or Anniston to volunteer for the prototype mold.

What is the advantage of a "molded" carpet kit? Why wouldn't someone just by some carpet and glue it into the impreza? I don't really know much about automotive interiors, so if someone could explain I might be interested in this group buy. I don't particularly like my shredded gray carpet (I've had my car for 1 year and 13,000 miles). Could someone take a few minutes to explain?

Albert 05-03-2001 11:28 AM

No update yet.

lurking, I'm not an expert but the obvious difference would be at in areas where the carpet bends, notice how smooth, and how no bulges are visible on the oem carpet. If you used flat house carpet every sharp bend or curve in the carpet would stand out like a sore thumb.
- It would look tacky.

I've sent out requests to a number of manufacturers, but have been declined at every single one. Apparantly some find that it's more cost-efficient to make a $5000 carpet mold for a Renault Alliance than it is to make one for the Impreza... I'll keep on looking, although I'm starting to lean to local custom/upholstery shops for a new carpet...
Albert 05-11-2001 11:19 AM

Still waiting...
Sorry folks still no update, if its taking this long to decide I won't even speculate as to what the odds are. Anyone else besides the local upholstery shop one-offs?

This is the first time I saw this post, and I had today just sent a e-mail to the ACC carpet guys to bug them about it. I can't believe that they wouldn't jump on this comsidering the crap carpet we have. I don't recall where they are located but erhaps someone need to vist them to show them how crappy the carpet is? BTW did anyone cheack overseas or post on some of the overseas boards (assuming the 1st gen WRX's get crap carpet too)? It would be nice if we could leverage the international volumes. Of course the RHD/LHD drive thing might preclude that, but we should check.

If this goes down there is a possibility I could swing it but I am saving for a house right now so the timeframe would be the biggest issue.
