Widebody kit for WRX, who makes this kit???
1 Attachment(s)
I have a picture of an 2002 impreza with a widebody kit on it, but I don't remember where it came from. Does anybody know who makes this kit and from where I can order it? A website would be helpfull as well...
| celeritas-wrx | 06-22-2002 03:26 PM |
that is the cusco race car... alot of people on this board ruined their jeans when seeing this picture.
I dont think it is available for purchase. If it is , it will come with spare pants ;)
Aqua sells wide front fenders. Syms made some, but I have not yet seem them available for purchase here. There was also someone looking at having a kit produced, but i dont know what happened.

Are those customs?
Wait, so does that mean those fenders are customs? If so, how much would it cost to have similar looking custom fenders made?
| evoandy | 06-22-2002 03:56 PM |
you talking about doing a one-off kit? be prepared to pay in excess of 10,000 bux for one... One off kits are EXPENSIVE!!

Imprezer Chime in! LOL! THis question has already been asked. Try doing a search in "Imprezer's Parts; Lair Forum" and under Alex can you get this wing or something like that! LOL is you think that you can get that kit for $10k then dream on! Im sure it is made of Carbon FIber and one of maybe 3 in the wolrd.....more like $50k.....considering a REAL STI 22b Kit is about $15k.....and a GDA WRC Kit is about $15k for hte wide arches! Two words, keep dreaming. THat is even out of MY range,....barely! LOL!

Since I got the beat down about this one, I will answer. That is a dry carbon fiber race body. It is not for sale. In fact, that's like asking if the NASCAR body kits are for sale for your taurus ;) That's how it was put to me, and I am just spreading the nastiness

that is stupid that they dont sell it.... they dont have to make it in carbon fiber either... im sure a company could reproduce that kit or even a better one and still be in a reasonable price range

No way the CUSCO JGTC fenders are gonna fit on production cars. Just look at where the tires are. You'll need a major major body work and suspention work to make your car look like the CUSCO car.
On the other hand WRC type wide body has been done.

this is not a WRC car. This is street GDB in japan with WRC replica bodykit on. RHD.
I know where to get the kit in japan but I don't think the kit has been imported to US.

This is pretty neat to look at and dream about but it would cost an awful lot of money and you would want to be sure you have all the "go" to match the "show" element!

well...If he were to get a one off kit, it probably wouldn't be made out of carbon fiber, and since most one off kits are made of really thin crappy fiberglass, then he wouldn't be paying much for materials. A one off kit is something you get custom fabricated for your car. If he were to buy that kit, it would no longer be a custom fab. And yes, a custom fab, done in the quality that I have seen most custom fabs done in (read: poorly) would probably cost at LEAST 10k. I was sort of implying that if you were to settle for a horribly done kit that would most likely shatter the first time you hit a pothole, but would look sort of like that kit, it would probably set you back no less than 10k. More than likely more. Please read carefully before trying to flame me.

Trying to buy and fit this kit, its like trying to buy the "body" kit NASCAR car use and try to use them on Chevy Malibu.
That is no kit. The car is tube frame with a full CF body.
In other word, you are out of luck. No $ will buy you this "kit" or even a little peice of of it.

Dude... Those Cobb fenders look like ARSE! !!!!! The beauty of the WRC kit is that the fenders flow straight down, rather than cutting back in on the car at an angle. Additionally, the angle of the curves on the upper portion of the fenders looks too flat... as seen here:

I seriously hope that this is not what Cobb has been putting their effort in to as a final product... I'll wait till stever(sp?) or some other japanese manufac. comes out with something better, thank you.

That hood is great. About $700 with today's exchange rate. AL with hood pins. From the translation I believe it comes with something to block off the vent when it rains. $800 for the front bumper, which includes the grill and the turn signals. About $600 for the wing.

i think it would look a lot better if the car had widened front and rear bumpers and matching sideskirts instead of having the fenders curve back in to blend into the stock ones.

83000yen for hood
and extra 35000yen for paint (they'll paint the back side as well)
So total will be 118000yen painted. That's about $1000 already before tax and S/H.....
no it won't be sub $1K. It'll be at least $1200 when it gets here.:o

upon further inspection...
I don't think the later ones are widebodies. The one go go go posted pictures of has no corner lamp. The others have blanked out corner lamps. It seems odd that a widebody front fender would be made for corner lamps and then blanked out, let alone made in two versions.
The line where the fender blister joins the main fender is also different. It looks crisper and parallels the top of the hood forward of the wheel well. After the wheel well it bends downward.
I can't believe you guys are bashing the conebasher. Sure, it looks a little raw from some angles, but it has huge flares. I'm amazed at how the rear doors and rear bumper cap were blended together.

yes you are right, the one I posted is the wide body one, the ones posted later didn't have the fenders yet.
The manufacture has just finished making the fenders so the fenders are not for sale yet.
They say they are developing a bumper light pod as an optional part for the front WRC bumper.
I just found a line in their website.

Wide Body GC8
1 Attachment(s)
We have already done it. Kits are availble. The kit was designed for the rally cars and the first street car (pictured) is being fitted. You can bolt on or blend fenders into exsting body. The fronts are direct fits and the rear is taking longer due to the cutting of the inner fender well for large wheel travel. We are fitting this car with 265/40 tires all the way around. We are testing the new trailing arms and links for the rear and the new front a arms widening the car for improved handling and standard offset wheels no exotic backspacing. The biggest benefit for widening the car is now the 3" coils clear the tires allowing me to adjust suspension without that limitening factor. Here is a pic from Pikes Peak.

Wider is better....
Yes... the fenders are 3 INCHES wider than stock front and rear. Yes that is considerable distance, but that is what was necessary to affect the desied results, coilover clearance and readily availble backspacing for wheels. The street kit is an upgraded rally kit. The front will have an add-on fiberglass splash guard and blend into the the side skirts. The rear will have an add-on fiberglass spat in the back to cover the tires. I personally (96 Impreza) will have standard large mudflaps but that is a personal preference. I will also probably not blend the rear fenders, us rallyists never hit anything of course, which would enable me to remove repair and repaint while I still drive the car. The large fenders enable me to lower the car down to ludacrious levels with coverage for 265/40 on 18 rims (show stuff, not at all very practical) or for winter fun raise the coils up and run 215/70R16 BFG's mud terrains (very Safari like). I will have the car done soon and provide pics for all to see. Cost for fenders is $1200 in fiberglass, carbon is avaible for an added cost (read ouch). The builder is the same as the Baja kits for pick-ups and we are quite pleased with the fit and overall strurdiness of the fenders. Notify me if you have more questions.

Except for the Cusco and the Conebasher, none of the GDA pics shown in this thread are wide body at all. We have a car under the knife right now for the WRC wide body kit. Our connection at Hella has secured us the original HID lights on the WRC car. We will offer these as well. Our goal it to have the car ready for SEMA.
Now these are wide body:

SubaFastR,
Any more information you can share regarding specifics, pricing, and availability to the "original HID lights on the WRC car" you speak of in your post?
I'm currently using the Prodrive UK300 headlights on my WRX, but if I could get true HID that is for LHD and not RHD, in the WRC style, that would be awesome!

Well, we have the actual HID bulbs, lenses, and ballasts that are used by Prodrive. We are custom building the carbon housing. They probably won't be ready until after the first of the year, due to having a ton of projects in development.

If you can put my name and email address on your list to notify with the details, that would be super. And, if this is something that could be offered for folks to use with existing UK300 assemblies, that would be awesome, too!

Do I seem interested?
Rallytech claims to make replica carbon fibre headlight bezels. I can't get them to send me a pic, though. I'm sure that you can do just as good of a job, without worrying about VAT, customs, shipping, etc.
I might be interested in a pair. Can you speculate on a price?
Are you using Hella lights? What size? Is non-HID an option? Are projector beams an option? Will it come with turn signals? Will the top section be open or a flat face?
If you are not going to place a turn signal or vent on the top portion of the headlight bezel, have you considered making it flush with the rest of the bezel? What I mean is, could you make the bezel basically a carbon bubble with two headlights.
