SWRT withdraw Petter & Car to save it for Rally Norway:
from rally-live
Following his off track excursion this morning in the Liljendal stage, Subaru have opted to withdraw Petter Solberg from the remainder of the Sweden rally.
Solberg lost over 13 minutes while as many as 20 spectators helped get the Impreza back on the rally course. The Norwegian was running third at the time.
"After losing almost 14 minutes stuck in a ditch on SS10, and with it any chance of a points scoring finish here in Sweden, the team decided to withdraw Petter from the remainder of the rally, stated Subaru WRT Managing Director Richard Taylor.
The decision was made in order to preserve his car, tyres and major components such as the transmission, all of which, under WRC regulations, must be used in next week's Rally Norway.
"The decision was taken reluctantly but we felt it was necessary to give Petter the best possible chance of achieving a podium finish on his home event which starts in just 5 days time."

So sad... I hope Petter can do well in Norway... I just can't wait until Mexico, when we get the new car.

Rally pairings FTL.
I'm still convinced that the Impreza WRC is not meant to work passive diffs. Carlsson is doing well for not testing with the Xsara and having a new english codriver.

It will probably take a few days to a week to find them on the public sites. They are available on some private torrent sites though.

from rally-live
The final super special stage at Karlstad saw Marcus Gronholm stroll to the Swedish Rally victory in his BP Ford Focus WRC, the 26th win of his illustrious career. The victory, the first of the year for Gronholm and Ford adds to wins secured by the Finn at this venue in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006.
With Sebastien Loeb finishing the rally in second position, 53.8 seconds adrift, the Monte Carlo winner retains his position at the head of the championship standings with 18 points to Gronholm's 16.
The short 1.86 km special stage finale fittingly saw Gronholm set the pace with a time of 1:40.7, 1.5 second ahead of Toni Gardemeister. Patrick Flodin was third fastest in his Subaru with Daniel Carlsson fourth, Luis Perez Companc fifth, Sebastien Loeb a rather cautious sixth, Jan Kopecky seventh, Henning Solberg eighth, Gigi Galli ninth and Mikko Hirvonen tenth.
Chris Atkinson really struggled around the final stage with the left rear wheel pointing completely the wrong way and the Subaru looking very much worst for wear. Still, the important thing was that he finished the rally, albeit at reduced speed. Dani Sordo was the only front runner to make an error as he backed the rear of his C4 against the concrete wall at the first turn but he was able to finish.
Back to the overall result and with Gronholm and Loeb confirmed first and second, Mikko Hirvonen duly finished in third position in his BP Ford Focus ahead of the Stobart M-Sport Ford of Henning Solberg.
Daniel Carlsson finished fifth in his OMV Citroen Xsara ahead of Toni Gardemeister in his Mitsubishi, Manfred Stohl in the second OMV entry and Chris Atkinson who scored the final point in what has been a frustrating rally for the Subaru World Rally Team. Mats Ostberg finished in ninth position overall in his Subaru ahead of Jan Kopecky, Patrick Flodin, Dani Sordo and Gigi Galli.
In the championship, Hirvonen moves up to third with ten points ahead of Sordo who has eight while Atkinson has six and while Gardemeister and Henning Solberg are tied on five points.
There is not a great deal of rest as the Norwegian Rally is just days away...
Overall Day 3:
1.Gronholm - Ford - 3h8'40"7

eurosport coverage

every time they show onboard footage of Petters car on the eurosport coverage, I cringe....... it can only mean one thing; an "off".
I'm sorry, but Subaru need to fire that guy. I am sick and tired of him throwing away a possible podium and manufacturers points just because he wants to overtake Seb and Marcus. This is no longer the occasional error, this has gone on for years now. To think this could keep going on for YEARS longer is super-depressing.
Atkinson's place shows that there is no reason Petter couldn't be sitting 3rd or 4th right now. I would like to relive the championships that Subaru won in the late nineties again BEFORE I DIE OF OLD AGE!

Well, I'll disagree. Petter has been good for Subaru. When you think of SWRT, you don't think of Burns, Sanz, Mcrae or even Makinen you think Solberg. Him leaving would upset many people, hurting the brand and team.
Atkinson on the other hand, has his own problems. His lackluster performance in '06 has disappointed some. The Team wants him to do better and drive more consistently. He did well at the Monte Carlo but wasn't able to keep up with Mikko this time around. Atkinson has had his own poor finishes last season, too.
I'm still hoping for a good year. Two more rallies and they get '07 car. It will be interesting to see how they are able to adapt to it. Hopefully, they will be able to make better tire choices by then.

I should point out that Atkinson is in a well sorted 06 car, with active differentials. While Petter is in a new 07 spec car that doesn't have active front and rear diff's, and will take some more tuning to get it perfect.

Nope both have 06 spec cars until Mexico.
Petter really made a judgement error, yesterday thorwing away a chance at a podium, there is no way he should have been chasing Loeb and Gronbholm. Staying in 3rd would have done wonders for the team's confidence. A seasoned vertran like Petter, SHOULD have know well enough to maintain his position for a solid finish.

You would be wrong. All the top level manufacturer teams have to run passive (even more disputed because last year all M1 teams had to be passive regardless of driver eligibility and SWRT is running 06 homolgulation)...
Plus because of the homolgulation regulations they can't really do anything major to the 06 car (like re skin an 07 car as an 06) without the new homolgulation coming into effect. At that time they have to run the new one and not the old one. There is no way within the rules to do what you are saying.

I completely agree, if he played it safe like Loeb, he would have locked 3rd. Then he would have some driver points and Subaru would have some mfg. points instead he has none.

A champion doesn't have the "sprit" to hold place, esp. early in the season. As for canning Petter 'cause Atkinsons so good, why's he 8th in the same car Petter had? We are all desparate for better days, but arm chairing "Petter shouldn't have been pushing" is silly. Champions have off's, ask Collin! :D
