Will the C4 do as well on ice as is does on the black stuff? Will Chris keep is car on the road this year? Will Gronholm let anybody close to the top of the timesheets?
Lots of new stages and super specials to mix it up on!
This is also the first stop for the PCWRC. Expect a lot of new entries in the Spec-C!

I'm really pulling for Henning Solberg to Podium.
A Solberg 1-2 finish would be quite nice!
Maybe Loeb's arm won't respond well to cold weather?*
*servos malfunction in the cold weather.

I'm really looking forward to the Swedish and Norwegian Rallys. Talked with a lady yesterday from around the Karlstad area and she mentioned that its VERY cold and plenty of snow which is nice to hear as the last couple rallys were rather opposite.
Go Petter...no excuses this time..snow is your thing.
P.S. May a swarm of a million mosquitoes infest the airbox of Loeb's Citroen.

Yup, seems like they are not expecting much until they get the new car in Mexico, but that is utter BS. Last year Carlson and Galli were 3-4 with 05 spec. Lancers. There is no reason that Petter couldn't podium, short of the car failing. If the car stays together and he still places poorly, its the driver's fault.

They were 3 and 4 behind Marcus and Loeb. Petter and Atko had problems, Mikko had problems, a handful of other privateers were in the results but the only person left of mounting a substantial challenge was Manfred so a 3rd and 4th aren't that extreme since there were only 2 high spec cars with decent drivers left...

Yeah, he was really fast on the first two splits of stage one. Then the driveshaft broke and things kind of went downhill after that.
He's still in the sucky '06 car, so I'm not holding my breath for good results. I can't keep track of everything that went wrong mechanically with that thing in Sweden last year... driveshaft, transmission (multiple times), Petter made a mistake and took out the power steering... It was a relief when the alternator finally keeled over on the start line of a stage and disqualified him.

Shakedown for the Swedish Rally took place this morning in snowy conditions outside Hagfors.
With snowfall overnight, Chris Atkinson set the pace in his Subaru Impreza WRC with a best time of 1:53.8s. Last year's rally winner Markus Gronholm was second fastest in his Ford Focus WRC, just two-tenths down on the Australian driver.
Petter Solberg was third fastest in the second Subaru ahead of Monte Carlo winner Sebastien Loeb in his Citroen C4, Mikko Hirvonen in his Focus while Toni Gardemeister was next up in his Mitsubishi Lancer.
Loeb is expecting a tough rally ahead but is still confident that with the new C4, he challenge and possibly even repeat his 2004 triumph. Loeb pointed out that as ever, pre-rally favourite Gronholm was very fast in the shakedown even if it is very early days
This evening the rally kicks off properly with the 1.86km SS1 Super Special Stage Karlstad.

Rally Sweden kicked off this evening, albeit it an hour later than originally scheduled, at the brand new Karlstad superspecial stage designed to provide the fans with something special with long sweeping corners and a surface some six inches deep of compressed ice and snow.
At the end of the first special stage it was Toni Gardemeister who led the way in his Mitsubishi Lancer WRC with a best time of 1:31.9s. Marcus Gronholm may have had to play third-fiddle in Monte Carlo, but the Finn is the pre-rally favourite this weekend in Sweden and was second fastest this evening in his Ford Focus, just half a second off the ultimate pace of by Gardemeister.
While the short first special stage does not allow anyone to make a big jump for the lead heading into the start of special stage two tomorrow, it is notable that Monte Carlo winner Sebastien Loeb had a bit of an evening to forget in his Citroen C4 as he languished down the timesheets some eight seconds off the pace.
Petter Solberg and the Subaru outfit were on top form however as the Norwegian set the third fastest time, just a tenth slower than Gronholm and third fastest overall.
Mikko Hirvonen was fourth fastest in the second Ford Focus less than two seconds behind Gardemeister while Jari-Matti Latvala did a fine job to record the fifth fastest time on this stage. Patrick Flodin was next up in his Subaru ahead of Monte Carlo runner up Dani Sordo in his Citroen.
Manfred Stohl, fresh from a very troubled run with OMV last time out was seventh fastest Xsara ahead of Gigi Galli and Henning Solberg in his Focus. Outside of the top ten was one Sebastien Loeb, way down in 20th position.
Leg 1 continues tomorrow morning with the 22 kilometre Likenas stage, one that is repeated later in the afternoon.

Loeb takes the stage, top five close up
Sweden : SS 4 - 19.21 km
09/02/07 11:45
Photo Rally-Live.com
Seven seconds cover the top five
The battle for the Swedish Rally lead closed up even further in special stage four this morning as it was Sebastien Loeb who took the stage win in his Citroen C4 with a best time of 9:56.8s over the 19 kilometre stage. "This one was not so bad, said Loeb, good and constant rhythm.
With Gigi Galli losing a little time in the final stage of the morning, Loeb moves up to fourth in the overall standings.
Marcus Gronholm was second fastest on this stage in his Focus WRC and takes over the second position in the chase of rally leader Petter Solberg.
Toni Gardemeister finished the stage in third position and retains the same position in the rally itself. It is so so slippy but I don't have a good feeling on the grip side, the Mitsubishi driver explained.
Henning Solberg was fourth fastest in his Focus and admitted there is plenty more pace to come and that he has yet to push really hard.
Rally leader Petter Solberg was fifth fastest complaining of a little understeer in the tighter sections of the stage in his Impreza. Now just over seven seconds cover the top five. "It has been a very good morning. Struggling a little on the narrower sections.
"
Mikko Hirvonen was sixth fastest ahead of Daniel Carlsson while Galli lost out on this stage with the eighth fastest time. Galli, who had some light front left damage on his car, drops from second overall to fifth overall but still very much in the battle in this close rally. Hirvonen in particular will be looking forward to the service area: "The power steering is not working properly, but it wasn't that bad."
Chris Atkinson admitted he was taking it easy this morning in his Subaru and was ninth fastest while Manfred Stohl rounded out the top ten in his Xsara.
The cars now head off for service before the action resumes this afternoon.

SS6 news: The second run of the day through the Hara stage saw Marcus Gronholm take his second straight stage victory in his Ford Focus WRC. The 2006 event winner completed the 11.32 kilometre stage in 6:10.1 but significantly for the battle for the rally lead, Petter Solberg was just seventh fastest dropping 7.1 seconds to Gronholm.
As Ford extends the lead with Gronholm, Mikko Hirvonen set the second fastest stage time just over two seconds adrift while Sebastien Loeb was third fastest in his Citroen C4 gaining two positions in the overall leaderboard.
Jari-Matti Latvala set the fourth fastest time while Henning Solberg was fifth fastest in his Focus. Chris Atkinson was sixth fastest in his Subaru and is moving his way up towards a potential points paying position.
Manfred Stohl was eighth fastest while Daniel Carlsson and Xavier Pons rounded out the top ten. Toni Gardemeister lost time on this stage to his rivals. The Mitsubishi Lancer driver set the 11th fastest time but as the battle for third position is so tight overall, the Finn drops from third to fifth in the standings behind Loeb and Henning Solberg.
That must be amazing to see it first hand. How much time did you take off work lol? When I head over to Europe next a WRC event will be first on my list!
actually I am working LOL.....for the SYMS Rally team doing service for Kristian Sohlberg in his Subaru PWRC entry. We are doing well thus far leading the PWRC group by a little over twelve seconds after 6 stages. the whole team is relaxing waiting for the last service of leg one. the WRC teams are incredible.... their service areas are like small cities ;). I will post pics of the service area when I return home if I have time before the next RA event .

end of day one SS8 news
from rally-live.com
The final stage of the first leg of the Swedish Rally was a short sprint affair on a stage known as Hagfors Sprint'. Naturally on a stage of less then two kilometers, the times proved to be close and there was therefore little opportunity to make up a great deal of time.
Marcus Gronholm won the special stage in his Focus WRC with a time of exactly two minutes pulling out another 0.3s over Sebastien Loeb at the head of the rally timesheets.
Loeb was having some concerns over the engine in his Citroen C4 due to a small electrical issue, but it showed little as the defending champion ran Gronholm very close for the stage victory. First on the road I lost some time for sure, so we'll see tomorrow is another day.
Petter Solberg was third in his Subaru Impreza, 1.5s off Gronholm's best but it made little difference in terms of the overall standings with the Norweigen remaining a third 11 seconds behind Loeb.
Daniel Carlsson was fourth fastest in his OMV Ford Focus while Dani Sordo, still trying to battle his way back up the order following his off on special stage 2 this morning, was fifth fastest in the second C4.
However after losing so much time already, his hope now will be to try and pick up a point for the championship.
Mikko Hirvonen was sixth fastest in his Focus WRC ahead of Toni Gardemeister in the Mitsubishi and Chris Atkinson in the Subaru. Henning Solberg was ninth fastest losing a little time on the front runners, but remains in fourth position overall ahead of the second leg tomorrow. Considering the problems we have had it has been a good day and there is still two days to go
The rally action gets back underway early tomorrow morning with the top six still covered by less than 35 seconds.

Curse you Sweden and your inconvenient ditches!
From wrc.com
SS10: "I got stuck in a ditch," a dejected Solberg said at the end of the stage. No further words were necessary to feel his disappointment.
Subaru World Rally Team's Petter Solberg made the biggest bit of news on leg two's second contest, the Liljendal stage. After leading Uddeholm Swedish Rally for the better part of the first day, Solberg suffered an off midway through the test and found himself in a ditch on the side of the stage. Solberg was able to get back onto the stage, but it took nearly 20 spectators to get his Impreza out of the ditch.
With Solberg dropping out of the top three on the rally's longest stage, his older brother Henning was the immediate leaderboard beneficiary, moving into third overall. Henning did not have time to celebrate his newly claimed position, however, as Mikko Hirvonen pushed hard and moved to only 0.3 seconds from third overall.
Marcus Grnholm was the stage's top driver, followed by Sbastien Loeb who was only 0.6 seconds slower after 34.54km. Toni Gardemeister, looking to move into the top-five, completed the stage third quickest.
Hirvonen finished the stage fourth fastest as the battle for third heats up. Henning Solberg completed the stage fifth quickest, 1.8 seconds slower than the Finnish driver.
Chris Atkinson continued his slow and steady pace and found the stage's sixth fastest time. Atkinson moved into seventh overall after his team-mate's off.
Daniel Carlsson rounded out the top eight on the second test of the day.
