Ver. 7, your car looks beautiful with that hood vent. I absolutely love it. Congrats on the awesome mod.

Very, very well done. Looks awsome. :D
WRX Ver.7 08-15-2002 09:11 PM

Well folks, here it is completed. The inside of the vent is black, as it is supposed to be. The pics also show the Kaminari wing and the painted PRODRIVE mud flaps.

Want to order NOW!

Ok - Areg - when can the rest of us order this!!!!!! This looks great, and I need to get rid of the big dent in my hood exactly where this goes..

Looks awesome!

Guys, I should have this vent done and ready to ship this week. When you see it on the site, you will know we are ready to take orders.

Excellent Kevin!

BTW, I'm assuming you guys made the vent from your Actual WRC hood? The more I look at it, the front of the Launsport just looks more "straight" then the actual WRC vent. Probably not though.

I'll be ordering two.

No offence Kevin, but the Launsport looks pretty much just like the one off the WRC WRX in my opinion. I can not wait to see you product. If it is anywhere near the quaily off the hood, it will be bad.
CyC 09-04-2002 11:21 AM

When I bought my wrx the dealer made it a point to tell me that I cannot have anything on my hood such as a bug deflector or a leather bra because it would interfere with the aerodynamics of the hood and direct air away from the airscoop and in turn, the intercooler. Are you sure that this added vent will not do that? it seems to have a lip in the front of it that could... maybe it should just be a reccomendation to have the larger STi hoodscoop to catch the air a little higher where it is now directed to?
WRX Ver.7 09-04-2002 12:06 PM

I am using a XS Engineering FMIC on my WRX. i basically did this because i am trying to duplicate the WRC car as close as possible. I am in the process of ordering the roof scoop, vent & interior assembly direct from Prodrive at the moment. That should be the last major obstical dealing with the body. The suspension is already up to the job, now comes finishing the motor.

Last step? What about the bumpers, fenders, wing, and side skirts? pkZero will debut it's WRC body kit at SEMA this November. The Prova hood and WRC hood will be there as well, of course!

Kevin - check you pm's please - question on my hood vent.

Thanks
SubaFastR 09-16-2002 01:03 AM

It should be shippable next Monday.
Ti-REX 09-16-2002 04:24 AM

Kevin,

Have you come out with a rain cover on your WRC CF hood yet or any mesh or something that will stop snow/rain from getting in ?

I'm also VERY tempted by the Prova racing replica ... Can't wait to see more of it !

this is web site

SubaFastR 09-16-2002 10:37 AM

Too funny. All this time you guys have been calling it the Launsport vent, when that is just a retailer. That vent is by WRC Custom. They sell the GC8 RS tail lights as "WRC" style lights too. My vent is molded off the original vent from a real WRC hood. It will include the rain gutter peice. They will begin shipping next Monday. We will also start shipping the Prova Replica hood in fiberglass around the same time.

Kevin,

What's the shipping cost on hoods ?

What's the weight (and price estimate) on the Prova Replica Glass hood ?

Thanks
SubaFastR 09-17-2002 12:40 AM

Shipping is about $85. The weight has yet to be determined. I took pics of the unfinished plug, but my buddy took the camera home. I will post them as soon as they are emailed to me.

So these are ready for shipment?

What are the details? I didn't see anything on your sight.

SubaFastR 09-17-2002 01:43 AM

Ok, here is the breakdown, since too many questions were just asked to not confuse some.

1. WRC vent should be shippable by next Monday.
The price is $200 plus shipping, Fedex Ground
It will include the rain cover.

2. The Prova hood is almost ready.
The price is undetermined as of yet.
We will ship a fiberglass version first.

3. Why no carbon yet?
We are sourcing parts for our oven to bake the pre impregnated carbon hoods. The manufacturer of the oven (not my parts) was supposed to install it 2 weeks ago, but they flaked, of course. Carbon WRC hoods will ship once the oven is done. Let me know if you want a fiberglass WRC hood, if you don't want to cut your stock hood. These are readily available now.

Kevin,

Price and weight yet on the WRC Fiberglass (aprox) ?

What is it made of ? Mat, woven or bi-directional cloth ? Any sandwich ? Corecell, Divinicell or others ? Or does it use a factory underframe ? Direct bolt-on ? Also comes with rain covers ?

I'm interested. I need a hood soon.

Thanks
carpetsloth 09-17-2002 10:20 AM

Vent with stock TMIC

I think you people putting hood vents in with a TMIC are going to have problems. WRC's IC is on an angle by the radiator and they need the vent in order to circulate air throught the front of the car. If you have a hood vent installed in a stock car you are going to be taking hot air from the radiator into the hood scoop and your intercooler is going to be an interheater. The Prova style hood where the vents are on the sides is a much better design for a TMIC car.

Price is $650
Weight is about 15 lbs.
It is hand laid glass, but beyond that I don't know.
It uses a modified version of the stock underframe.
It is direct bolt on.
It does not come with rain covers. Ever seen the large hole under the car that all the puddle water comes into the car through? We have been running the WRC hood for almost a year now with no problems.

While what you say makes sense, the guages don't lie. Under hood temps and EGT's both went down with the WRC hood. Don't forget it comes with the STI size scoop.

Gargantua 10-11-2002 02:35 AM

looking forwards to seeing a hood vent painted and installed on a silver WRX. Any sort of numbers on those lowered EGT gauges and under the hood temps. I know I sound anal..........;)

I really like the idea behind it. makes good sense as heat seems to be a booger for these turbo driven cars. Especially those of us who live in hotter climates
SubaFastR 10-15-2002 10:07 AM

Vent is done and ready to ship. Check www.pkzero.com for the details.
