Doesn't THIS just bite?

From AutoSport:
<<Colin McRae believes that Petter Solberg is the favourite to claim the drivers' world championship because of the fact that Citroen has ordered Sebastien Loeb to ensure his car makes the finish to guarantee the manufacturer's title.
The Scot believes that it will be very difficult for Loeb to follow the order and match a charging Solberg. Citroen boss Guy Frequelin issued the order after Carlos Sainz retired early in the event. Loeb was leading at that point, but subsequently dropped behind the Subaru star.
"The problem now for Citroen is that we've got to get these two cars to the finish," explained McRae. "For me that's not a problem, but Sebastien's very disappointed about it, obviously. He wants to fight for the title but he's been well warned that he's got to get the car to the finish, so it's very, very difficult for him to put up a good fight with Petter. We'll just have to wait and see what's going to happen, but I think that Petter should have it fairly well in the bag.">>
Certainly deprives us of a real fight to the finish, doesn't it?

Citroen wants a win and since Carlos went off course, they need to ensure that Sebastien dosen't. If he's pushing to beat Solberg this increases his chances to make a mistake.
In an interview with Sebastien Loeb, he stated that he plans on keeping his rythm, that if he just try's to slow down, he can make a mistake just as easily as going too fast. So I wouldn't count him compleatly out of putting up a good fight with Petter, But it does look like Loeb won't be takeing any crazy risks on the next 2 day's stages. This is good news for Petter since it also means he doesn't have to push with all of his might to get ahead of Sebastien. Eveyone is still on their toes and the rally is not over yet. Looks to be an exciting next two days.

02:46:00 - McRae to replace Burns in 2004? : There are interesting rumours which have circulated in the press in the last few days about the possibility of Richard Burns being sidelined for some time from the pilot's seat, which might open the way for Colin McRae to find a drive for 2004 after all. All the hopes are for Richard to make a full and speedy recovery of course, but maybe a return to Subaru (at least on a temporary basis) could be a possibility for the Mac.
Now there is something I would like to see again, McRae in an Impreza

I don't see that happening. Burnsie will be in an impreza next year. If anything he may miss a few of the starting rally's.

All the rumours are just that...talk, speculation, dreaming.
Meanwhile, there's nothing beyond the reality of Rally GB (Sainz, Gronholm, Burns, et al OUT) and Petter vs Loeb, Subaru's Hollywood star(s) vs Citroen team orders.
Sounds like Loeb's options are limited: ease off and help Citroen nail down Manufacturer's Title...or continue chasing Petter at maximum attack and if he blows it, he might be driving a Citroen next year all right...like a beat-up Citroen taxi in Beirut??!!
Loeb is maybe not the most lovable cuddly rally pilote, but he's nothing if not a total rally pro who knows that team orders are team orders. If he blows Rally GB by chasing Solberg so hard he wrecks...I can't imagine he will, so he won't, don't worry. (He's no dummy, he wants/needs/lives for that Citroen factory ride next season)
So...GO Petter, freakin' GO Tommi!!! Who'd a thunk Makinen would be such a forceful factor in his last event as full-time WRC pilote? Well shoot, who'd-a ever thought a 4-time World Champ would ever do anything different!!!???

Makinen is in a truly unique position. In a weird sort of way, the pressure is off, now all he has to do is spank to the max, which is something he knows more about than all but a few other guys on the whole planet.
He applies his own pressure, we are all so lucky to watch him bear down on Petter and Loeb (who's distracted by his own situation, dealing with team orders yet who must know full well what Makinen can do to him if he wavers for even an instant).
Tommi is not driving a WRC 555 Impreza, it's a frikken bright blue locomotive!!!!
Dizzy, and dyin that I'm not out on the Rally GB stages watching this in person...

Radical Idea for Outcome of Rally GB!!??

What if...
Makinen WINS and goes out in a blaze of well-deserved glory
Solberg takes 2nd and still wins Driver's Championship
McRae gets 3rd, redeeming his season and making all WRC teams look like dopes for not signing him next year
Loeb gets 4th like a Good Lad Following Distasteful Team Orders (and thereby retains his factory ride for next year, whereupon he wins WRC)
Everybody Really Really Happy.
And if U saw it in a movie, you'd say, "Awww, that's a setup!"
Might just happen, tho.
Hoo baby!

For anyone interested, the GB pics up on the rallylive.com site are absolutely badass...some of the best I have ever seen. Is it just me or do all the cars look "meaner" during rally GB? I guess it's the accumulated mud. Me like.
For giggles, how 'bout we all email WRC.com radio tonight/tomorrow during the broadcast to see how many NASIOC mentions we-can get on air? Hey, it's the end of the season. C'mon, lets party.:)

It's sad to see Tommi go. For the past couple of years I've rooted for both guys not only because they drive for Subaru, but they're both class acts.
Next year I'll enjoy Solberg being the top guy, i.e. Burns' whining will not be dominant tone coming out of the Subaru camp.

I go to worldrallynews.com and find the results page for GB (the link is in the first heading on the page) and then click on the stage you want to see the results for. Refresh to your hearts content.

Its a touch slower then WRC.com, but I always head there when the Live Event Dashboard starts flaking on me.
