$200 too much for tint?

Planning on tinting my 04 this Saturday. I have had it done at this place before when I had a truck and it only cost me $120 (for 3 windows). I plan on getting all 5 (front left/right, back left/right, rear) done by this guy and now the price is $200? He does do a good job and is local. Are there any other places in Southern Cali that do a great job for a lower price?
I live near San Fernando Valley, so anything along the 118 would be fine.

I paid like $240 for my Impreza Sedan... Of course the job was amazing and they used a metallic tint as opposed to dye based. Computer cut tint, no peeling, no bubbling, lifetime guarantee.

I usually get around $189 for a WRX sedan in my area. Thats with a lifetime warranty and using Llumastar film.

I paid 139 for my STi, 20% Llumar tint from a reputable shop

Actually, it will also depends on the type and brand of film you are using. For example, I have V-Kool on all the 4 doors and rear window and it cost me $500 total.
V-Kool is very good simple because it provides 70% Light Transmission and a high 55% Solar Energy Rejection (SER).
Other film with 55% SER would most probably provide like 22% light transmission which as you know, its damm dark.
So with V-Kool, you can protect you more and yet still safe with the police as they would not even know that you put any kind of tinting unless they work for V-Kool previously

I'm in the Northeast and spent a total of $260 for all five windows, and got Llumar Platinum. 18% in rear, 30% all the way around, and got my windshield "clear" tinted with a UV Sunguard (also a Llumar product and one I recommend wihout hesitation).

$135 for all five w/Llumar tint. They threw in the strip in the front also :)

It's a bit too much. Call around a little. Ask what brand of tint the shops use, Llumar, SolorGard are really good, and if they have a lifetime gurantee.

V-Kool is amazing. However, its really expensive. Mine is the cheapo USD 120 for the whole car.

GUys, I actually dont like those computer cut type of film. The work would not be as good as those with hand cut.
If you see thoes computer cut type of film, you will see at the edges of the window that is not being covered although its very small area. With human hand cut, you almost can't see it.

Look around for specials, I'm getting my wagon done next week where the normal price would be ~$220 but with the special, two windows for the price of one, it comes to ~$130.
| Infymus | 04-30-2004 02:24 PM |
Not at all. I paid $225 for mine. Lifetime guarantee. I trust these guys, they've done all my cars the last 15 years. Never a bubble, and when a small piece came loose on the drivers door, they totally replaced the entire piece.
Get it done professionally and you will not regret it.

Wow, where did you get the V-kool from?
I was looking around for it, even called the number in Houston, they said they don't do it anywhere else for cars except in Houston.

I live in California, Bay Area. In bay Area, there is currently only one V-Kool installer in Frement (www.automalltintfactory.com)
If you go to LA, they might have one more.
V-Kool requires special skills unlike other film. So dont buy v-kool film and have any tint installer to do it cos they will destroy it!

I paid $110 for all five windows in a WRX sedan and a 6" strip across the windshield. 9 months ago
I paid $240 for my Jeep Grand Wagoneer; but that included stripping the old film off, tinting all 7 windows including the sliding back glass. 4yrs ago
I paid $89 for five windows in my 93 Geo Prizm. 6yrs ago
All done in my home town, all hand done and cut, and I dont have a single complaint.

A good, reputable shop is a primary concern.
A place that will take care of you if there are problems is worth paying for. I would gladly pay 50% more to get it from a first rate place.

i'd say you all need to move to miami. i paid $90 for all 5 windows at 20% and the job is perfect with a lifetime guarantee.
this place would also go down to 5%, but couldn't guarantee the cops won't pull you over.

I paid about 140 for my 99 Cadillac STS for Titanium metallic window tinting for all 5 windows. 5% on the back 3, and one shade lighter on the front 2. They came to my home to do it, and got a life time warranty. I think my windows are bigger. I plan to use them again for my STI

I just got tinted last weekend from "leeberbs" (member here) for his blowout special of $125, but usually it's $175. 35% front, 20% rear 3 windows. Lifetime warrantied against the usually fading, cracking, bubbling and he did some GOOD work.

I paid 200 for the 7 windows in my legacy sedan. 5% all the way around. I paid a bit extra for the dark film and the "I know it is not legal, just do it" service.

Theres someplace in MA that gives tinting for 50$ but you have the add there decal (5x2inch) somewhere visable on the car.

I paid...$345 for all SIX windows on my STi. I have the metallic based tint with the low light transmission and high heat resistance. I have 40% on the front and 16% or so on the rest ( 4 sides and rear). Tint prices are pretty high here in the Detroit area. I had my 2000 Camaro SS the exact same way. I have no shade where I have to park at work and I don't want the insde of my car to be 100+ plus degrees and start to crack and fade. My tint is also garaunteed never to fade. The one thing I really like about the tint i have is that under sunny skies you can see me through all windows and under cloudy skies you can't see sh#t inside my car.
