What seats are 'fatboy' friendly? part 1

What seats are 'fatboy' friendly?
Does any one on here have any suggestions for good racing seats for an individual who is 5'10'' 265 lbs. 42-44 pant size XXL shirt. Stocks seats let you 'bounce and slide' too much.
AWDWRXLOVER 10-30-2006 02:19 AM

get your xxl flame suit on.
GlobalWaste 10-30-2006 02:22 AM

get some sti seats (since they're American friendly) and pour some chocolate syrup along the seat area to make it extra grippy
semaj 10-30-2006 02:23 AM

I thought USDM seats were as friendly as it got?
matt84 10-30-2006 07:31 AM

What I'm lookin for is something with wayyyy more bolstering on the bottom. We all know the factory 04' + seats are not so good for some. Even 02'-03' are MUCH better, they are actually made like recaro's (seet pan vs. springs). Lets just put it this way, with H&R coilovers make the ride on the highway sometimes cause zero gravity and this combined with turns becomes real interesting, real fast. Suspension is staying so I need a seat with a little better 'grip'. The stock seats have plenty of room even for me, but i still have to brace on any spirited driving.

http://www.sparcoracing.com/data/seat/seat-dim-guide.pdf Here is the list of the Sparco seats. The Evo2 are the widest they made. I am 6' 215 and the Evo2 is wide on me.
WRX8XB 10-30-2006 08:28 AM

Don't they make an EVO XL seat as well?

either way, if you're not "Normal" size (read 5'6" 140 lbs) you'll need to start test fitting seats.

it sucks to drop 1k on seats to find out they don't fit the way you want.

find a Showroom or go to sema this week. :)

NRG is selling some seats that i think you would be interested in.. check out "vendor group buy"
epson1 10-30-2006 11:16 AM

Yea im 240 lbs and 6'1 and the 02-03 wrx seats are alot nicer
wrx_gtp 10-30-2006 12:44 PM

try the "pull the seat springs back" mod. It's free and also takes care of the bouncing ride that is blamed on the oem springs.
WgnWheel 10-30-2006 04:18 PM

i've sold some "wide" version corbeaus to a bigger guy. he has the trs in his supra, nice seat for the money.

There's also the Bride Zeta III-L's... but I don't know if 475mm is wide enough for you on the bottom of the seat (from bolster to bolster).

Here's their sizing chart: http://tees-usa.com/size_bucket1.html

The TR seats are pretty much the same as the '06 WRX seats, they back is just different. And It looks like the '04-'05 seats are the same as the '06 WRX seats, just different colors.
RallySport Direct 10-30-2006 07:22 PM

Sparco EVo XL are the biggest sparco made. We have some in our showroom we like to refer to them as "the couch"

The biggest seat we have been able to fit in the Subaru is the Evo L (2) This seat may be a option for you but I think it still may be a little tight.

We stock alot of the sparco seats and probably give you some insight into what you will need to do to make the seat you want work.

To let you know the seat clearance issue is in the B pillar. So you are going to want to find the widest seat possible with the least amount of shoulder support.

I'm 6'4" and 220# and I bought a CG Lock for 40 bucks or so. It really keeps me planted on an AutoX course.

Another vote for the 02-03 seats. I don't think I've sat in a seat as comfortable, but still so supportive.

"...seats are pretty much the same..., they back is just different. And It looks like just different colors."

Funny, that's exactly the same quote I received from a drunk drag-queen this holloween weekend.

Just yank back the springs, free-bee mode.
You'll sink down into the bucket seat as it was designed and not ride on top.

if you can fit that into a wrx ill give you a cookie. **** ill even send you a cookie in the mail.
keaniegenie 10-31-2006 12:02 PM

Status makes wider seats, but their supply is really low. Very supportive.
EarlQHan 10-31-2006 02:24 PM

You'll want either Evo XL from Sparco or the Buddy Club Wides.
pignoseSTI 10-31-2006 03:20 PM

i'm not sure you'll be able to fit a sparco evo xl in a impreza. I just put a evo2/L in my 06 sti, and it just barely fit. I got the buddy club super low down sliders and the seat shoulder wing just barely touches the b pillar, and I have the seat shifted as far as possible to the center console. It's definitely a tight fit, and I can't see a xl fitting into the car.
WgnWheel 10-31-2006 06:01 PM

i doubt the xl would fit in a suby either. i had a hard time fitting a corbeau fx1 wide in a suby. either has to be mounted before or after the b pillar, and hit the center console.

We have fit the EVO XL's in a Subie Before, It jsut takes a bit of love sometimes to make it work. One thing to consider is the B pillar, the seat will contact the B Pillar unliess you modify, your sparco base and side mounts. This will allow you to slide the seat over enough to clear the b pillar. If you have questions, give us a call.

Not sure if that has been posted yet, but that might help with some of your decisions.

Have you considered the South Beach Diet? My dad did it and lost 15lbs in two weeks... no exercise, just change in diet... the first two weeks are the toughest! My other suggestion is that you get yourself a Ford F-150. I saw a lot of big guys in those down in Texas when my wife and I were stationed there a couple years ago! Either way good luck.

I'm no expert.....but im gonna go out on a limb here and say thats not the kinda answer he's looking for :)
06STIGO13 11-02-2006 03:09 PM

Oh.. well, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or rude or anything... Just offering another option, in the event that finding larger seats or getting larger seats to fit in his car doesn't work! Like I said, it worked well for my dad, who is 57, and it worked for me, I'm 31. I put on a little extra weight when my wife was pregnant and well I lost 10lbs in two weeks, with little to now exercise! But, hey if he just wants to find seats, then I will leave that to people who are in the know about that stuff!:)

The corbeau VX2000 fits up to a 44" waist. Sweet Seats , we have sold lots of them.

anyone have these seats?

they look pretty nice. i need to find some seats i like.

right now i really like the buddyclub seat.

Anything made in Japan will probably be quite tight, unless their sizing chart says otherwise. I barely fit into my Zeta III L's, which are the biggest seats Bride makes... we're talking zero space between the hips and the sides of the seat (in fact the side bolsters have to bend a little when I get in) and I've only got a 36" waist. I'd at least double check the dimensions to make sure you'll fit.
exitspeed 02-21-2011 02:36 PM

Just wanted to add my experience as a taller Subie driver. I installed the same setup pignoseSTI did...a Sparco Evo2 with a Buddy Club Super Low Down slider/bracket and can verify it does indeed JUST fit.

When I say "just fit" I mean with the seat slid all the way back...the shoulder bolster just touches the b-pillar. If you are shorter and can get away with the seat being enough clicks forward for the shoulder bolster to clear the b-pillar then you're fine with this seat/bracket setup in an Impreza.

To clear the b-pillar in the rearmost slider position...I had to orient the seat brackets in such a way to shift the seat over towards the center console. Doing that causes the seat belt receptacle to be a tight fit against the seat when the receptable is bolted to the seat bracket...I could use a bit more work there to make it fit better but I make due. The orientation of the brackets (that bolt to the side of the seat) limits how low you can mount the seat because off the welded on bracket where the stock seat belt receptacle bolts on. If you cut that off you could go one notch lower front and rear.

For the record I am 6' 5" and currently around 245lbs and wear a 38-40 waist. The fit in the Evo2 is snug...but that's what I wanted for autocross and track days. This car is not my daily driver.

I did gain quite a bit of head room and leg room with this setup which is exactly what I was after...being as tall as I am. Heal-toe down-shifting is much easier to perform now...and my helmet isn't touching the headliner.

I also have plenty of clearence between the seat back and my autopower roll bar.
