posting this here to get an informed opinion
I just spoke with a younger customer (late teens early twenties) who has an E36 M3 which is stock except for the tires (ES100's) who claims to run 2:15:xx at Road America .....

I run mid to high 2:30's in my Nissan

the T1 record Z06 is mid 2:20's

do I

1.) call him out
2.) bust his chops
3.) roll eyes
4.) laugh and hang up
5.) educate him
DILLIGAF Racing 01-18-2006 04:45 PM

Call him out
ChrisW 01-18-2006 04:47 PM

WagonMonster 01-18-2006 05:04 PM

DILLIGAF Racing 01-18-2006 05:09 PM

You could always tell him that the SRT-4 is even faster than him
wvallwheeldrive 01-18-2006 05:10 PM

1) Ask for a video
2) Street Race him for his car
3) Show off in front of his friends
4)????
5) Profit
ratt_finkel 01-18-2006 05:19 PM

Tell him to turn off GT4 and try it in real life.
WagonMonster 01-18-2006 05:21 PM

No **** sherlock. It was a joke. What I meant was, this kid is obviously living in a dream world.

Actually Luke, what you should do is start kissing his A$$. And play like you want to hire him. Because he is obviously the best driver in the world. Invite him to the office and tell him the tire rack would like him to be a contract driver.

And then tell him you're kidding.
bjorn240 01-18-2006 05:39 PM

Please send him my telephone number.

Cordially,
Luca Cordero de Montezemolo

yeah its in Forza for the XBox
Scooby921 01-18-2006 05:45 PM

Just tell him that with "brand X" tires he could shave off 2 more seconds. Sell him the tires and wait for him to come back with another bull$#!^ story that we can all laugh at. You make a sale and get to laugh some more.

Don't upset your customers....just laugh at their stupidity.

The Cobalt is teh new fast4r. (no joke)

What you should do is sell him as many tires at the greatest profit margin that you can. Duh!

Does he speak with a Spanish accent? Is his name Fernando, maybe calls himself Fred? Did you hear him cover the mouthpiece of the phone and yell, "Just a minute, Flavio!! And my [emailprotected] gold driving shoes better be shining like I'm never seen before, bitch!!"?

I say (1), (2), and (5). Let us know how it turns out.

pio!pio! 01-18-2006 08:53 PM

Is there a short course configuration at RA?
endeavor 01-18-2006 10:16 PM

Yep, there is 2.2mi short course instead of the full 4. Skip Barber uses it.
kwak 01-19-2006 12:55 AM

And he probably claimed he did that time in the rain.

At the risk of taking your question too seriously...

He claims 2:15, T1 record is 2:24.9, T2 record is 2:36.2. And the M3 is a T2 car. You knew that. His number is so outside of reality you should no longer care what the number is. It's a good number ;), but a bit slow for a GT1 car.

That is like a guy I know who posted a picture on his website claiming his street Miata goes through turn 12 at Portland at 90mph. Maybe half that!!! It just clues you in to what you're dealing with.
[emailprotected] 01-19-2006 08:16 AM

I know he was full of s*** but, it was so, funny I thought I would share it with you guys ..... and it was supposedly not on the short course

So did you fake hire him or what?
Student Driver 01-19-2006 11:40 AM
kind of hard to top that :)
Yeah, didn't think that could still be funny without the l33t spelling, but it is.
LeRoy 01-19-2006 01:00 PM

If he is talking to you I assume he is in the market for a set of tires. Explain the benifits of less unsprung weight and better tires. Sell him a new set of wheels and tires and ask him to report back with his new times. You may make a friend / loyal customer for life. Remember to come back and tell us all about it.
jcroy66 01-19-2006 01:40 PM

SWEET, Luke, you've obviously found the next F1 champion! And apparently he's an unknown, so maybe I can marry him before he's smart enough to get a pre-nup.:devil:

Oh wait, I'm already married... But hmmm, he doesn't have to know that!
[emailprotected] 01-19-2006 04:22 PM

It was just one of the funnier things I have heard in awhile
cooleyjb 01-19-2006 11:54 PM

A well driven Porsche GT3 Cup car has trouble getting to 2:15's. The Racers Group who has some of the better 911 drivers in their stables were turning 2:17's last time I saw them running.

Maybe he meant 2:50's. I'd even call BS on that cause if he's running those tires he's probably running OTS random brake pads that would be fading before he got to turn 5.
shane86 01-20-2006 03:57 AM

Tell him that these are the new secret weapon of the T1 cars.
no road america in GT4
too bad I have it in every sim I own. I can do high teens in a Porka Cup car taking huge risks thru the kink.

I personally know of one person that is in the rather exclusive 2:15 club at RdAm. He is not only initimate with RA but is also an instructor for the PoA club events. The car he did this in was a Fabcar tube frame old school 911 single turbo race car. He chuckled when I asked him how much boost/power he was putting out. I am sure it was no less than 650 to 700. He did this at the final PoA event late last summer and won the GT class in the proccess.
