Making a WRX a 2 dr
Just wonderin if anyone has ever seen this done.
I want to sometime in the far future, weld the doors shut and take off the door handles and weld plates over them then shave everything smooth and paint it up nice. So it looks like the 2 back doors were never there.

Well, I can't say I've seen it done, but its probably for a reason!! LOTS of work, and, your essentially blocking off the entire back seat.. In 2 door cars, the doors are much bigger than in 4 door cars, so when you open them, you have access to the front and back seats. Your front seats, of course, fold all the way forward for the passengers to get back there. Try photoshoping it first - as I think the car would look strange with only 2 SMALL doors.
I can't imagine that with the popularity of the WRX that in the next 5 yrs. or so that Subaru wouldn't release a 2 door model including the STI.. so hopefully by the time your ready, one will be out and you'll be able to trade yours in.
Just my opinion!

I planned on taking out the back seats and replacing them with a nice double or triple sub box.

I can't imagine one reason in the world why you would do this.
"look at me, I drive a coupe, except it's the same as a 4-door with the rear doors welded shut, weeeeeeee"

Is there ANY advantage to doing that except that you would have looks? Only look difference would be the shaved handles. Why don't you just shave the handles and not weld it shut so it's not such a pain the ass.

Reasons to do it are, like I said above about the sub box. And If I can find a place to do it I would like to add a lot of cross supports and bracing to stiffen the car. So it would be difficult for someone to sit in the back seat with a bunch of metal bars where the seats are. So why not weld the doors shut, its not like anyone would be able to get in there anyway.

there was a old body wrx wagon featured in import tuner ( ) not too long ago that had the rear doors molded shut. go to theer website and maybe youll find it.

I hope you don't plan on selling the car... EVER. You will get 0 resale value but it's your choice.
BTW... are you in high school? Just curious.

i gonna go ahead and say that probably isnt the best idea... 4 door cars and 2 door cars are built and designed totally different... the aerodynamics and interior design and exterior lines would be totally different from the two cars... it really wouldnt make sense to do this... just lettin' ya know what i think.. like it matters... :p

I've seen a 4 Door Jetta, that's had this type of bodywork done. I didn't think it looks that hot, but it has won some awards at car shows around here.

ok silly boys
if you look the 2 and 4 door GC6s you will notice that the cars are THE SAME ...
the seats mount to the same bolt holes...
the mounting holes for the seat belts are differnt but the holes for the 4 door mounting are present in the 2 door model
the door the 2 door is longer (there is a whole 5 lb differance betweent he two cars)
that said if you were to do this you would sacrifice a fair amount of rigidity and saftey
this would be ALOT of WORK
to make it look right you would have to make a custom longer doors

How would I lose rigidity and safety all I would be doing is taking out teh back seats and welding the doors shut. If anything it would be more rigid since Im gonna add a bunch of cross supports and bracing and stuff.

it will make your insurance go up. once they find out you now have a two door sports car. and not a 4dr sedan grocery getter any more. really I had a 2dr 2.5rs then got the 4dr wrx and my insurance droped like $80 because it was a 4dr car. weird???:)

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
If he adds braces, how is he sacrificing rigidity? Even if he doesn't it'll be the same as stock.
If noone can sit in the back seat, how is he sacrificing safety? If anything, the car will be safer, because it will be more rigid.

if this is your plan, nevermind your a gigantic fool
Narcisse91:
one word "unibody"
my premise was on the assumption that if he would do it corectly, by removing the b pilar and rewelding it back in further back, larger doors, etc..... actaully making it into a coupe...

My plan is to do more than just weld the doors shut. Im gonna weld them then smooth out the welds, then take off the handles weld metal plates over where the handles(I guess its called shaving the handles off). So it would look like the doors were never there. Im not getting new bigger doors or taking out any pillars or anything. The car would look exactly the same except the gap around the rear doors and the door handles would be gone, and it would be all smooth.

Dude, do it... and post pix if ya ever do.
It obvioulsy sounds like you KNOW that there is no "logical" reason for doing it - besides that you WANT to - so screw everyone else, and just do it. And if anyone has anything negative to say, tell them to send you $$ for your next car payment, or else zip it.
its a mod that i would NEVER do, cuz even though I have almost never used the back seat of my WRX for anything but my Mt Bike, i still know its an OPTION if i ever need to have 3 or 4 people in the car.
What I would suggest you do, is just shave the rear handles first, BEFORE you weld the doors shut. See if you REALLY like it that way (since you could still use the back seat if ya needed to). THEN go all out and weld them back doors shut, cuz afterall, i'm sure doing all that will not be cheap, and will be even more expensive if you ever wanted to reverse it. <-- just a word of caution, thats all.
and once agian... post pix
