ever go to maaco?

I need to get my car cleand up and fixed, my rear bumper got swiped and it neds to be painted and my front driver fender is messed up and needs to be replaced, and where I got hit the door edge needs to be cleaned up,
I went to maaco cause a friends works there and he said he can do all that and paint the car with their signiture paint job for free, or for the supreme job 500 more, seems really cheap cause I went top a body shop snd he said 1100 for the one fender
Reason for the post,,,anyone ever go to maaco? Are they reliable to leave my car there? Or do good ework

I suggest you stay far far away from them.
any place that advertises different paint jobs makes me laugh.

After 2 years your paint will likely start cracking. I've seen it happen to more than acouple Maaco cars...

You don't even have to wait that long. A friend of mine from high school had their rear trunk painted and it was peeling in a week. My mom got her trunk re-painted there too, and it was peeling after about a year.
That was years ago though. Maybe they have cleaned up their act and maybe my mom and friend just had bad luck. But personally, I would go to a reputable shop. Usually, when you go to a shop, you can tell right away what kind of job they are going to do.
BTW, 1100 for one fender is nuts. It's not a Ferrari and you aren't asking for Ferrari paint.
You could always go to the dealer and ask them who they use.

This Maaco photo gallery looks pretty good, but I doubt this represents the quality of their average everyday paint job. I am sure they had their best of the best on this one.

one of the workers had a nice wrx, and my buddy said he has painted stuff on it there.,,looked good too
1200$ though to fix the fender and bumper, and a complete paint job? seems reallllly cheap

I went to maaco to get a quote on getting my old car painted.
The first thing they asked was "how long do you plan to keep the car?"
Yes, they're cheap but I don't think they're good for anything but fixing up a junker so you can sell it immediately.

If your friend works there then of course its going to be cheap if he's doing it on the side.
How much do you trust your friend? It's not just a matter of if maaco does a good job, but how good of a painter is your friend? Prepping is very important for the paint to stick well.

i used to work there... the 1 in lakewood on rt 88 does decent work.. theyre ranked like in the top 5 in the country.. true story..

i want to point out that MAACO is owned by individual so quality of the work may varies from one maaco to another...its like 7-11 and donkin donut...
i had good experience with maaco...i had my older car painted 4times by them
the paint quality is not as horrible as most of you might think...its acceptable
especially for that price... reason for 4 paint jobs was only because i changed body kits, hood and spoiler 4times while i had that car...
i think if you care enough then you should do the prep work urself...
sand down the old paint to bare metal, fix dent, etc before you get them respray ur car...
anyway it really depends on the maaco u go to...the one i went to here in central jersey was nothing but good experience..

I have heard some mixed reviews on maaco... for an older car, like my gc... i'd go there in a second. because i dont really care about its looks all that much. for a newer wrx though
if you decide to do maaco, make sure you do signature, they only use single stage paint up until signature, so no clearcoat!

Had my SHO Taurus painted at the Maaco in Fairless Hills Pa. 8 years ago.I paid about $1200 which included some body work. The paint was clear coated also. The result was good. I would use them again.

I had my Z31 painted there back in high school and aside from a bad taping job the paint held up fairly well, as mentioned before they lowest quality paint is a single stage and they rarely use flew additive on plastic parts.

A friend of mine got his Fiero painted at Maaco.
He got a decent black paint job, complete with a fly (yes, the housepest insect) painted to his trunk. Just my $.02. I wouldn't go there.

I detailed a buddys truck that was done at Maaco. What a POS. First, they didnt even bother to scuff the stock clearcoat when they sprayed on the orange paint directly onto it......
"Uh oh, better get Maaco." No, how about doing the job right and going to a REAL bodyshop. :)

Stay away for Maaco. I had a friend that went to Maaco and all they did was paint over his original paint, never even sand it down or any of that stuff. About 6 months later the paint started flacking and soon he was back to his original paint with clear coat still on there.

I'm just gonna say "you get what you pay for..."
Yeah, maaco is cheaper, but the job they do is lousier. Just about decent enough to warrant the price difference...
Now, here's an odd idea. Maaco's body work alone might suit your needs. You could just get your panels fixed... then from there... you could go to a REAL body shop and have the panels painted with quality paint. Honestly, considering what you need, i couldn't imagine the body work alone being THAT much crappier.
The paint, on the other hand, much crappier.

Ok look Maaco isn't bad if YOU do some of the work.
My experience with Maaco is that they will just PAINT over the color you already have.
I helped a friend sand and primer his front left fender, they sprayed the paint and did the clearing and it turned out GREAT!
You yourself will need to tape off anything you dont want painted (IE: Emblems).
There ****ty only because they dont prep the cars. If you prep it its good work...usually.

I totally depends on what Maaco you go to. I have had a few friend and my brother get thier cars painted at a particular one here in town and they did a pretty good job.
They're a franchise so it totally depends on who is doing the work.
I have a touch up that needs to be done on my door which is very minor and I am going to give these guys a try. It's being paid for by the guy that was gutting his grass and slung a rock into it so I really don't have anything to loose. I'm still going to get the paint for them so I know they are using a high quality paint and I'm making them give me a warranty on.

I had my 91 integra painted by them and it took them 3 days to do. THey did some body work too and it was definity worth it to me. Paint lasted 3 years so far and still looking good. No flaking and any problems. It just really depends which one you go to.

I had a '74 MG Midget painted at MAACO in '86. I totally disassembled everything off the car, interior, even the entire windshield and all glass removed. I drove over with no lights while sitting on a milkcrate (those were the days :) ).
The white paint was glossy, smooth and looked great until I sold the car in 2003. I got many compliments at car shows and people were astounded that MAACO did the work.
I would go there again in a second if I did all prep work myself and just wanted a simple non-metallic color.
