"Wakaba" emblems part 1

"Wakaba" emblems
hey guys when I was in Japan in '03 I always thought it would be cool to bring one of these back and put it on my car..... I had since forgotten about it until a few days ago. Well I picked one up on ebay, let me know what you think:

maybe it'll start a trend or maybe I'm WTLW, but I haven't seen any Subies with them yet
migs76 11-01-2005 03:01 PM

it's been done. too lazy to search for pics. but it's your car, go for it.
02R6 11-01-2005 04:49 PM

I've been sporting mine for about a year now:

Some others have done it also. I have the suction cup example as well, but it doesn't show up too well what with the tinted windows and all.
ilnmcom 11-01-2005 05:00 PM

I have to ask why you would want to put something on your car that denotes that you are a rookie driver, or young driver. Not trying to flame ya, but wouldn't you want something that said that you were more experienced?
crashtest sonny 11-01-2005 05:03 PM

its been done for a good long time already. ^^ same i dont understand why you would want to put that on...or even if you do..why do you wanna be label as a rookie driver.
makanai 11-01-2005 05:54 PM

Nice looking ride 02R6. I'll keep an eye out for you and give you a wave some time.

Could always go with this :D

Handsdown 11-01-2005 06:20 PM

yeah it would be cool if there was anything other than "young driver" and "old driver"
Danbob 11-01-2005 06:47 PM

Cause its mad tyte JDM YO - My leaf comes from Japan, so that makes my car that much more authentic  red Hazzard buttons I understand - but a twenty dollar sticker that says you are either an old senile driver, or a young ignorant one???? Retarded.

PS - That silver rex is gorgeous even with the dumb decal so props to you for a sick car.
gc822 11-01-2005 06:55 PM

haha it doesn't really matter to me if it means beginner driver or not I just think they look cool. Plus this isn't Japan so everyone on the road isn't going to think that I'm a beginner driver b/c they won't even know what the hell it means. To most it will just mean yellow and green sticker. Besides I'm fully confident in my driving skill.
Cause its mad tyte JDM YO - My leaf comes from Japan, so that makes my car that much more authentic  red Hazzard buttons I understand...
so buying a $45 dollar plastic red button b/c it's red is justified even if the black button that is already on there serves the same purpose??

I just happen to like the leaf whether it means "beginner driver" in Japanese or not... if it meant "experienced driver" how many 16 year olds that have rich parents do you think would put it on their 06 STI anyway, even though they only have had their licences for about a month.
04REX85 11-01-2005 07:02 PM

yeah at first I was wondering why you were going to put that on, but my mom put it on her first car when she moved here, and I thought that it was cool(it was off her very first datsun she owned in japan)
boxerboy 11-01-2005 08:19 PM

Kinda the same thing as I want to be fast but not look fast (stealth). It hurts a lot less win you get your ass handed to you. The beginner drive can say hey I'm new to this, but if you out drive someone hows it going to feel for them to know they just got whipped by a novice.
TarmacRally 11-01-2005 08:30 PM

I think here in america, they start to take on a different meaning. Obviously, most people dont have any idea what it means. And mainly the people who dont know what it means are not driving entusiast. There just shuffling around in their minivans and trucks. But, if I saw one of those on a car, I would think that the driver is an entusiast and sort of "in the know", so to speak. So maybe in japan they're for young "student drivers", but over here they're for "Students of Driving"

Handsdown 11-01-2005 08:47 PM

racing shouldn't be about how the other person feels when you beat them. it shouldn't even be about beating them. it should be about enjoying the sport of it and bettering your skill level.

amen to that

exactly... at least get a Momigi mark or the orange/yellow teardrop one signifying experienced driver (even though its really for 75+ year olds)

Wakaba stickers are just another trend of people getting ridiculous with making their cars appear JDM... like rhd conversions on US-spec cars and getting japanese language owners manuals... kind of lame

Driving is about how you FEEL . If I were not I would be doing something else and save a lot of money. Someone tell me something different.
IIdiceII 11-02-2005 06:18 AM

Imma get the senior citizen one just to piss people off. "why do you have that sticker on your car?! what are you gay?!" hahaha
Calamity Jesus 11-02-2005 07:54 AM
The beginner drive can say hey I'm new to this, but if you out drive someone hows it going to feel for them to know they just got whipped by a novice.
Sure.. they might feel worse about it if:

they have very small penis.
they know what the stupid emblem on your car is supposed to mean.
they know about the emblem, but don't know about the trend of kiddies putting them on their cars who do it for the sake of irony. (which is ironic, btw)
Danbob 11-02-2005 08:58 AM

I defend the red hazzard button because at least it's subaru specific and it serves a functional purpose, plus it is an actual piece of a rare and beautiful car. I dont really think that a leaf that represents a part of japanese driver education as having anything to do with the subaru community. There are plenty of other stickers, decals, or symbols that one can use to show that they are an enthusiast.....How about an SCCA decal on the car LOL? Doesn't that make more sense ? PLus who cares about winning and losing, etc...unless you are referring to bringing your car to auto-x or the track....
culturedetox 11-02-2005 09:56 AM

I'd get one of those small orange cone stickers. I see autocrossers everywhere sporting those.

It ain't jdm, but its not as silly when you have to explain the sticker to someone... whats better?

"that means 'senile driver' in Japan" or "I race the car on weekends" ?

you know what I would be going with.
Danbob 11-02-2005 12:54 PM

culture detox thats exactly how I feel - you got it perfectly.
ForesterPerformance 11-02-2005 01:19 PM

I have had one on my turbo Miata for a while now... but I did it for the irony factor, since I was using the Miata for local drift competitions. Nothing like a "novice" driver going sideways in a controlled drift. Plus my friend Erik is CEO of D.G. Trials and their logo is the wakaba with a 240SX sillouette in it... so it just seemed right, the wakaba, and a big "SLIDE OR DIE" sticker on the windshield...
slowscooby 11-02-2005 01:21 PM

I see a lot of the 240 Dr1fTer kids with these on thier cars. Because its [emailprotected] jDm Tyte Yo!1!1

bingo!
MU5A5HI 11-02-2005 03:03 PM

I love these. I work with some of the tech support people at my office. We are gonna start producing tiny replica wakaba and placing them on the computers of people who 'earn' the 'inexperienced driver' status on their machines.
kspek 11-02-2005 10:20 PM

i had one but someone tooked if off my car since it was a magnet.
gc822 11-02-2005 10:28 PM
i had one but someone tooked if off my car since it was a magnet.
yeah I'm afraid that someone will take mine too, I might try to mount it in the back windshield or something
JDM5LugHatch 11-03-2005 02:15 PM

These are really popular with the Honda crowd. You can get the ones that have a suction cup for inside the car and they do have an "Elder/Advanced" Kareha one as well.

grimm5577 11-03-2005 04:47 PM

why??

i don't like that one as much, plus I'm not an elder......

the green on the beg. driver one matches my car anyways.....meh....

we'll see...... :D
o2sys 11-03-2005 06:30 PM

so thats what that thing was

I like that Idea some one should make a "Students of Driving" magnet, I would if I could.
02R6 11-04-2005 09:27 AM

I didn't know this was going to turn into such a big debate. The only reason I put it on my car is because 1) I like the way it looks and 2) not many people know what it means. But, for those who do know what it means, it's kind of an inside joke.

I know what it means but never heard anything about an inside joke. My friend has been rocking one on his JDM'd out Integra for a year or 2.
gc822 11-04-2005 11:11 AM

mine came in the mail today, I'll place it on my car and take a pic so all of you guys can flame away
Driving is about how you FEEL . If I were not I would be doing something else and save a lot of money. Someone tell me something different.
that's the difference between racing and driving:)

and yeah, this **** is EXPENSIVE. if i didn't love it so much, i wouldn't be broke.

and i'm debating buying a nicer digital camera instead of saving for coilovers/engine swap because i love photography just as much(if not more) than i love all things subaru. that and, well... coilovers and engine swaps are just so much damn money for someone who gets $6/hr
