PR: Subie Gal Racing kicks off 2002 season with Doo Wops ClubRally
Hoquiam, WA- Subie Gal Racing is hoping for a successful showing at this weekend's Doo Wops I and II SCCA Club Rally event. The event is round one of the NorthWest Region SCCA Club Rally Championship. This is the team's first event with a newly prepped car and they are excited to get going!
"I have zero testing time in this car, and expect it to be challenging to learn the FWD after so many years playing with AWD. I will likely take it easy, try to get to know the car and just finish the event in one piece." said Jamie Thomas, Subie Gal Racing Driver. "Regardless of how we finish, I am expecting to enjoy this weekend and learn as much as I can from the experience." Jamie drives a 1995 Subaru Impreza FWD 1.8L Production class car with co-driver John Reed.
Regardless of this weekend's result, Jamie and John expect to enjoy the weekend. Doo Wops II hosts the infamous "Brooklyn Tavern Stage," one of the most popular stages in America. The Brooklyn Tavern stage usually brings out the spectators in force and helps create a great racing atmosphere for the teams, which helps make this first event of the season a memorable one for many.

Awesome pics
The car turned out great. All I can say is, fwd is somewhat like driving a 911, don't take your foot off the gas if the rear starts to come around, accelerate. I used to race around with friends in the snow in my Rabbit.
Anyway, you don't need luck, you worked hard, prepared, and your determined, and you have great support.....your set!
I think your competition is who should be worried!

Jamies aproach for this weekend is spot on. She hasnt driven the car off road yet and it only came out of the paint shop 2 days ago!!
This is the first FWD car she has driven (or rather she will have driven ;) ) off road too. Steep learning curve ahead. :D
Maybe event #2 Jamie can start thinking about the win. ;):D
Have a blast J :D

hmmmm, that kinda thing looks a bit tacky on a proper rally car.
I say let the driving do the talking. I know once Jamie is more familiar with the car a lot of people with know this girl kicks arse! :D

numb-nut question
I'm curious why Jamie picked a FWD Impreza to rally with? I'm sure there're a zillion reasons why, just don't know what they are. Please fill a newbie in.
:)
Also, how can my wife get a SubieGal Racing sticker for her 99 OBS?

The AWD engine displacement modifier will bump most modern 16 valve engine powered cars into Production GT. That's an extremely competitive class that is filled out with well financed privateers and manufacturer supported teams in ProRally.

GO FOR IT Jamie!!
Wish you luck, keep the rubber side where it belongs!!

She seemed to be doing pretty good and had a HUGE grin on her face all day (although its kinda hard to see that when she was flying down the road and spraying us with rocks :) ). I left before the final stage so I don't know what the results were. There is a thread with some pictures over in the Northwest forum though.

To answer the questions....
Sticker.. email me... i'll send you one!

why the FWD???
because i wanted to start in the Production class... the slower, smaller hp cars.... i sort of believe to be fast, you have to learn to drive slow.... and smooth... carrying speed is key!!!! too much HP too soon and next u know you are upside down in a tree somewhere....
the only "modern" body style Roo that qualifies for P class is the 1.8L FWD Impreza... so there you go!!!! :)
Please do let me know if there are any other questions, I had a great weekend getting to know the car! Thank you so much for all of your kind words, wishes and thoughts!!!

Also, keep in mind that the FWD Impreza is a totally upgradeable chassis. When she masters the FWD we can bolt up all the AWD stuff and turn the car into a PGT car or even a full blown 300hp Open class monster! Try that with a VW Golf or a Nissan Sentra! All the mounting points are already in the FWD chassis for the AWD rear crossmember and diff, etc. The beauty of a Subaru!
By learning in a 2wd car Jamie will learn car control and how to throw the car around, etc. That will make her that much better when she moves up to AWD. You can achieve good results at the club level in a powerful AWD car without learning to drive well because the car is so good. If you can master 2wd first then you can get the most out of an AWD.
Also, it's cheaper to run a Production class car. You can't modify hardly anything. The car has no power so the tires last longer. Jamie ran on the same set of used tires all weekend and won her class. Gas is cheaper, too. I think we only added about 10 gallons all weekend! The car must get about 20mpg on the stages!
