STi grill in today part 1

STi grill in today

Looks very good. I took some pics but my wife has the interface cable in her car. I will post pics later tonight. I noticed the subaru "stars" badge is different. The stars are connectend and larger with a smoother shape. Also there is a very subtle dark blue tint to the background. :) But I have a blue "i" badge I will be replacing it with. Also the "STi" is coming off too. I'm not too big on improper badging. Such as, Type-R when not, or STi when not. :o I saw some goofball today with a big GT-R badge on his cavalier. Anyway, pics to come.

Looking forward to seeing those pics.

mr2guru, I may be interested in buying both emblems from you if you have no use for them. PM me if you want to sell!

Very nice looking. Looks like an easy install.
mr2guru 01-06-2002 12:22 AM

Very easy just clips in like the original.
dwx 01-06-2002 01:56 AM

Yeah I didn't notice the uniqueness to the STi grill emblem until I had wrecked it getting it off the grill to put my I emblem on. :(
Scoobie Newbie 01-06-2002 02:00 AM

How did you manage to wreck it.
mr2guru 01-06-2002 02:09 AM

yeah, how did you "wreck" it? I havn't switched mine yet and don't want to mess it up as I am going to sell it being unique and all. Some one will buy it. Anyway the original "stars" was easy to get off what gives?
dwx 01-06-2002 03:33 AM

I didn't really figure the emblem was any different so I just heated up the area and pushed on the emblem from the back through the new grill. I'd use fishing line or something if I did it again. It scratched up the paint a little bit so I just threw it away. I didn't really notice it was any different until i saw it in the garbage the next day. :) It was also a bit of a pain to get the little STi off, it uses some plastic clips that are very flimsy.

can someone please tell me what is different between the stock grill and the sti grill?
zabutter 01-06-2002 01:39 PM

STI grillis one piece and overhangs onto the front bumber as seen above. Also included is a red STI emblem left front. In addition, the black inside "mesh" is different. There's a close up shot in vendors forum.

I love the STi grill look

Makes the nose of the car more aggressive looking. How much is it?
dwx 01-06-2002 03:07 PM

They aren't cheap but considering they are oem pre-painted parts. The STi ones will go from $275-350 or so depending on who you buy them from. These are the same grills that are found on all of the JDM WRXs so a non-sti version might be cheaper? I don't know how much value the little STi badge adds.
axis 01-06-2002 08:33 PM

where do you go about buying the sti grill. i am very interested in getting one for my wrx but don't know where to get it. was it through your dealership? what do you ask for ... the jdm sti grill?
mr2guru 01-06-2002 10:31 PM

I doubt your dealer imports JDM parts. But several people on this board do. I got mine from wrx_only Search for him. There are other too.
ScoobyBoy 01-07-2002 02:20 AM

looks a whole lot smoother than stock
very clean
:D
omahasubaru 01-07-2002 09:08 AM

Well...

If someone could find out the part number for this grille then it could be obtained through your local dealer I would guess.
As long as the part number doesn't start with ST meaning it is an STi part number.

You can obtain version 4 WRX STi bumpers and all kinds of JDM parts from US dealers if you just have the part number.

bemani 01-07-2002 11:14 AM

the old one offers more open area for cooling the radiator though :)
wrx182 01-07-2002 11:32 AM

i'm sorry..but i just can't see justifying the purchase of one of these...i just can't see any difference between the two....

theres a vendor on the board who does frequent Sti buys, Accurit Performance, he's cool about it and always tries to get the best price for you, you can pm him about it if you need more info
mr2guru 01-07-2002 02:48 PM

WRx182

I even posted comparison pics and you still don't see the difference?
trboCIVIC&WRX 01-07-2002 03:04 PM

vivid's got them... or can get them...

Jim, there is a big difference, it is just not that easy to see from those pics...

but it is definitely different...:D the profile of the front end is much "sharper" with it on... less blocky...
elgorey 01-07-2002 04:18 PM

I just talked with WRX_ONLY today and he has 12 of them in stock. Great to work with and his prices are good.
WRXIN4IT 01-08-2002 01:58 AM

i think it looks really good

but i really hate to be a dick about this but if you think about it all the crap hondas get for having type R on there car and not being from japan has been concidered rice or if they have an EX and put SI on it you get the point. but i guess really the questions is do you still consider this the same??

it does look good tho
no harm meant

peace out

That's why subaru owners don't put that crap on their cars, usually. If you read the first post, he's going to take off the STi, as I did. Of course I have mesh fog covers that say STi on them... I was considering just getting the STi part painted over, but they weren't cheap, and I know if I ever sell them the fact they say STi on them will go a long way. :) Anyways, as I've said before, STi is an odd one because it's a parts manufacturer that plasters their logo on everything they sell as well as being a type of car.
elgorey 01-08-2002 09:10 AM

Type R is a model and STi is a tuner
Big difference.

Genuine STi parts come with their logo, and no one should be ashamed to sport it.

word!
wrx182 01-08-2002 09:14 AM

WOW...I'm retarded....I kept looking at the grill itself and not at the plastic trim below it....It is completely different.

sorry for being a retard there...Looks great!
purplegrape 01-08-2002 11:11 AM

Looks really good.... definitely makes the front looks sharp!!!
Too bad I'm low on $$$... :(

True. But not if you're one of those that buy the replica STi stuff and spray STi on it
WRXThis 01-08-2002 06:42 PM

To bad the STI grill won't work with my Morette's.
