Does anyone use mudflaps?? part 1

waypastfast 10-30-2006 01:18 PM

Does anyone use mudflaps??
Ok, i live in the great white north (canada) and have to deal with snow, rain, slush, etc. Does anyone use mudflaps to keep all the junk from going up the side of there car?? Or are mudflaps on an STi not cool?? And what recommendations do you have if you DO USE mudflaps?
grzydj 10-30-2006 01:24 PM

Do a search and you'll find that a lot of people like Prodrive flaps. They're a bit spendy, but everybody says that they're worth it.

I'm going to get a pair, as soon as I pay off my tires.
DashboardCon 10-30-2006 01:27 PM

LOTS of people have them.

Try Rally Armor flaps.

They are "cool" if thats the theme of your vehicle. So if you want the rally look, then go right ahead.

I use the RallyArmor mudflaps. They worked terrificly at my last rally.

Where can you get the Rally Armor Maps, I am trying to get a hold of Mauro at mauromotorsports. I also heard Fastline is MIA....

Rally Armor sells them direct:

I've had mine for 2+ years now. Good stuff.

I am going to go against everyone so far on here and say that I bought the factory "splash guards" (read: mudflaps) I just threw them on this weekend, and I honestly like the look. I dont rally with my wagon, I just wanted to protect the paint and hopefully save other peoples windshields (i speak from experience)

I like the subtle look of them. I too was debating the Rallyarmors though. I really like the look of them on most cars...but I wasnt sure how I would like them on mine. Plus the parts guy here at my local shop gave me a good deal on them. Just an option. I would say that ANY mud flaps are better than NO mudflaps, especially for you people from way up north.
joecerv 10-30-2006 02:56 PM

^^^^^

I guess I can only say that "I totally agree", instead of writing again everything 06-SportWagon wrote.
Wiscon_Mark 10-30-2006 05:51 PM

Yes, I have stock ones, like 'em a lot.
powerlabs 10-30-2006 05:56 PM

I use them. Along with front and rear skid plates and dedicated snow tires (Blizzak Revo 1s).
I wouldn't drive anything else in winter :D

I have Rally Armor's on my 06 and they've done a great job at keeping rocks and crap of the sides of the car. Living in NJ, I am constantly running over dead animals, tires, and dodging rocks. Now, if Rally Armor only made a windshield flap.

Personally, I like the tough look the mud flaps give the Impreza. I always think of these cars sliding around on Pikes Peak rather than 2 inches off the ground with huge rims. Plus they protect. So I say go for the flaps.

Check it

Used the Rally Armor flaps in a 24 mile rally and in heavy dirt and they helped out LOTS.
WhiteFox 10-30-2006 07:12 PM

I have to get me a set of rallyarmors. This winter is gonna suck without them :p
Sir_Xenon 10-30-2006 07:42 PM

Dude's in Calgary people and it's cold up there, maybe too cold (sometimes) for anything other than Urethane material for the mudflaps. Urethane is flexible in extreme cold, other, common materials such as pvc will be too brittle and could break. Of course, this is moot if you don't expect any roughness with the flap but keep it in mind.

I'm not trying to be a smartass but it doesn't look like they did much to keep the crap off the side of your car. Has anyone ever taken before/after pics driving the same road to see if mudflaps actually keep crap off the side of your car?

As an added bonus, rocks and stones you kick up sound like Anti-lag. :)
subikid 10-30-2006 10:47 PM

i have some like $14 flaps from advanced auto and they look the same as the ones up there on the 06 wrx... they work fine, just get 'em form advanced auto and you'll save a ton of moola and get the same effect. i've had mine for a while down here in FL

Hahahaha... No, you're not being a smartass at all. They keep rocks from chipping your paint, but they are not perfect for that and they definitely don't keep EVERYTHING out.
FWIW mud flaps don't do much when you are going sideways. If I remember right I picked up a lot of that doing donuts.
sh0ck3r 10-31-2006 12:41 AM

I have rally armor flaps on my sti. Awesome investment. With the price and quality of the rally armor flaps, you can't go wrong.
zumspdrx7 10-31-2006 12:54 AM

I just installed JDM GC8 STi mudguards on my BE Legacy. So far, theyre holding up well and keeping my car cleaner then before. I am doing a TSD Rally this weekend, ill let you know how they hold up.

Got mine here, very popular m/flaps are this side:lol:

http://www.scottlowe.co.uk/Scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21

ok,I can see why the body coloured ones may not be to the liking of some

I've had mine fitted from day one and there's not a single rock chip on the lower doors, sills or arches(which is more than can be said for the front of the car)

besides that,if you choose black you can barely notice them anyway

Love the RallyArmor mudflaps; gives the car a nice aggressive look and finishes it off with a rally inspired look.

I have a homemade set that I got a template for the flap and brackets off from www.scoobymods.com
mine miss the ground by about an inch or so... i wish i made the fronts a lil longer but they do a great job and stand up to a good beating. Just careful if you get the heavy high density polyurathane sheeting, the stuff is strong enough that if you back up over your flaps you WILL rip the bumper off the car *looks around like its never happened to him before*

In Use

just for show
