thanks i was alittle worried it was too much.

The paint is too shiney and dark. The STi manifolds are powdercoated in wrinckle finish.
It does look good, just not STi like, IMHO.

I think it's a good job. It isn't an exact replica, but he accomplished what he was set out to do.

jetguys manifold or real sti manifold looks like pine?

| MAD REX | 07-23-2002 08:40 PM |
I like the red on your manifold, the STi one looks kinda crappy.
But your intercooler paint job looks too messy...er..I dunno

Anybody who has the gumption to paint there manifold is A-OK in my book. :D
Uh... you did do something to the motor when you pulled the manifold right... not just painting:confused:

IMHO the Subaru on your intercooler looks like ass. ;)

Why did you remove your manifold???

Looks cool! Are those letters on your intake the ones from your trunk?
| Sordid Philosopher | 07-24-2002 06:51 PM |
I like the idea of painting the manifold...but it is bright :)
I am thinking about it...you didn't remove it hmmmm...I think I may do it in a flat color. Interesting idea.
your STi isn't too bad, but it's not real good either (with the hood open) probably looks fine with it closed.
DanMan - your manifold looks better IMHO...really nice. Not sure why though.
What would he have to do to his engine anyways?
Just my 2 cents

That intercooler doesn't look like it can breathe well at all.
| DanMan | 07-24-2002 11:00 PM |
Wow... thats a pretty good idea using a paint brush for someone who's just going for the look. I however am not that vain :D
I had to pull the manifold to install my fuel rails and to poke around to see how I'm gonna port those TGVs (once I have some time). Since I had it off the car, I disassembled it completely and sprayed it with red hi-temp engine paint. It came out really nice. I held an STI manifold my buddy has next to it and the finish isn't very close, but mine is a little more bling so ha!
Manifold is pretty easy, took me about an hour and half the first time. Then again... I don't leave my garage much, so results may vary. Just make sure you put it back together right.

The SUBARU looks weak. Lose it, please.

THE ONLY THING THAT WILL LOSE is you if you tried to run against my rex!
if you don't like it don't put it on your car.
by the way I redid my sti stencil on my intercooler screen, no more over spray/ fuzzyness I'll post some pics soon

the paint looks good, but the intercooler looks a lil ricy - mad props for the DIY though.

Personally I like what you did with the Subaru logo, but that's just my 2 cents. :D

I realize this is an OLD thread but i was searching around to see if anyone has painted their IC. I dont want to paint it and then cause it to become insulated and hold in the heat. I have some stains that wont come off my IC. I wanted to repaint it in a light coat of paint the same color of the metal. Then I was thinking about stenciling WRX in blue small letters on the IC ( like the stock sti size ) to match my 02 WRB. Can anyone give me some feedback on either cleaning this better ( oh I have used almost every cleaner even a surface solution that is used to prep surfaces ) or the painting. I repainted my heat shield over my turbo that color and it looks great!
Thanks for any advice..

They do sell red wrinkle finish high temp at pepboys and autozone.
the big STi on the IC looks a little gaudy as well as the SUBARU.
Just one mans opinion

lol... why the STi so BIG....
| joeyb7 | 05-15-2005 11:02 PM |
I take my earlier comment back, I didn't want to be too harsh, but honestly, I think it looks bad and you should take everything off. Looks way too ricey.
| BakedCookies | 05-16-2005 09:04 AM |
that is seriously the *****tiest thing ive ever seen done to an intercooler.
