That noise is made by dirt in the track at the front of the window. Some folks use a bit of silicone lube, which needs to be periodically renewed. Those of us who are car washing fiends, rarly get the noise.
I think that the frameless window shifts more, which makes it come into contact with more of the surrounding molding than it otherwise would with a traditional framed window.

Hi,
I heard some squeaking from my driver's side window for the first time last week. I'm not sure if theres any relation, but the squeaking came after I used Stoners glass cleaner and Rain-X. My window also rattles slightly when I have it rolled down halfway or so. My car is < 3 months old with 5k miles.
But after a couple days, the squeaking is gone.
Damn frameless windows!
~Cheers

Mine squeaks only when the window is wet (for example, while raining)...cleanliness doesn't seem to correlate though...but I could be wrong.

There was a thread about this in the BAIC forum. A dealer posted that in some cases the squeeking happens because the window has come out of the track. This most commonly occurs when the window is used as a grab point to close the door. I would check out your local dealer.

Z-12 CLEAR-VIEW GLASS POLISH will remove them . A razor will work too if you want to spend that much time and risk scratching.
Regarding the squeaking noise. My sister had this problem so she took it to the dealer and told her to spray WD-40 on her windows.

what ? WD-40 on the window???
Well, I washed my car quite often. I don't think it is dirt related.
In the beginning, it only squeak when it is wet. So I didn't
bother. Now it is squeak everyday. And I never grab on the
window.
It seems like many of us experience this, but no one has
a solution for it....... :(

I get this all the time, and it really drives me up the wall. I even open my door sometimes at toll booths, drive-thrus, etc., so I won't to hear it.
It leave a vertical two-track about 1" wide right in the middle of my window.
I wash my car all the time, and true enough, it does subside after I wash it, but I think this is more due to the lubrication of the water on the weather stripping, since it comes back in a few hours.
Rain-X seems to help a little, and so does the Zaino product mentioned above.

Yikes! How long have you had the car? My car squeaks sometimes when it is wet and cold (I got my car April 2001). Does this mean that I might develop the same problem you are seeing now?
Maybe your window did come out of its track...get the dealer to take a look at it if you can reproduce the noise easily. Let us know what you find out. Thanks!

Nothing like having a date in your relatively nice car then too roll down the front windows and have them biting there nails.

simple easy and cheap fix is vasoline...just put some on your fingers and rub it inside that black triangle shape piece where your side mirror is mounted.....in between there is the original of most driver side window squeak

Damn, I get that same squeeking noise too. After washing the car, the noise goes away, but after a few days it comes back. I also get that track line down the middle of the window when the car gets dirty. Both get very annoying, but I'm not a freak to wash my car every other day, I'm a lazy ass...

I have had my car since January. It started squeeking last month. It's only on the driver side window and it's only for the first 4 or 5 inches while it is rolling down.
Has anybody taken it to the dealer for this problem?
Also, WRX USA your link does not work! :( Fix it please

My driver side window whistles at highway speeds and I have to shove pieces of paper between the window and the soft seal inside to stop the noise.
| 303 | 08-11-2002 03:41 AM |
i had this problem too, and it doesnt solve the window off track problem, but sometimes if there is dirt in the window tracks it could cause the noise also. i bought silicone spray($3or so) at the local auto parts store and sprayed it on the stripping that contacts the glass(windows down obviously) on the left and right seals of window, but not on bottom cause itll make a mess on your glass. the silicone spray also helps if youre windows are slow from friction. a cheap fix you guys might wanna try

I get this on and off..
Some days it's every time i lower the window...other days it doesn't happen at all. I'm fairly sure it's a cleanliness or heat-related thing. I wash my car pretty thoroughly every saturday...now that i think of it my window hasn't squeeked anymore for the past week or so heh. See if you can whipe away any debris from under the rubber window-lining..perhaps a small grain of something is causing the noise.

hey Sochico... there is a solution to that one... There's this stuff called steel wool... it gets those things right off. They're only made for glass so make sure you don't hit up ur seals and other parts of the car...

drivers side window..
well sorry to say i have had no window noise problem. but this weekend i noticed the drivers side making a weird sound when closing the door, well as i tried to find the problem i noticed that the drivers side window is hitting the trim on the outside... its bad enough i have to take it into the dealer tomorrow, looks like its all most enough that over time i am sure the window would brake...maybe needs an adjustment? will try to see tomorrow...anyone else have this problem?

Guys, I have the same problem on the driver side window, makes that strange noise every time I put the window down or up, makes me feel like I bought a very cheap Japanese car.

See your dealer
I had a clunking driver's side window, and it squeaked. Took it in to the dealership in Couer d'Alene, Idaho, and they tightened up the window regulator and lubed it with I-don't-know-what, and now it's quiet and not clunky. Smooth operator. Also it doesn't rattle when I close the door any more. Just like new. If your car is still under warranty, you might want to take it in.
I also had the passenger side mirror tightened up, a CEL incident scanned (they found a defective drain valve of some kind and replaced it), and my air conditioner checked out. All free, plus a free loaner Forester while the WRX was being worked on.
It was the first time I had any warranty work done on a car, ever. Couer d'Alene Subaru gets my thumbs up for excellent customer service.

I had the same problem with the last 2002 2.5 RS I had. I had some stuff called Meguires Back-to-Black which restores black rubber/plastics. I put it on the rubber weather strippers and it fixed the squeek. (I think this is just a sylicone substance)
By the way, this stuff works great for all exterior black trim when applied right.

Happend on my friend's 02 RS
Took to Irvine Subie and the answer was useless
Simple way to get rid of that noise is to get your window tinted
I am pretty sure most of you had this problem do not have your window tinted ;)

So you must mean the dealer said NOT to get your windows tinted!
Right?
Right?
| ImpreziveWRX | 08-14-2002 02:37 AM |
Ha ha, nope
Actually they said wipe the window with windex often
And its completely useless
Window tint is the best way to get rid of that noise

Thanks for clearing that up.
I guess I'am just used to hearing stories about how dealers blame everything on modifications. AND, hence tinting is a modification.........well, you understand!
