window tint %

I was hoping some one could post some pics of there tint from inside the car and tell me what % it is. I have only had 1 car with the windows tinted and it came that way so I dont know what % it is. Tring to figure out how dark I wanna go. Thanx
| LedFoot | 06-17-2003 07:09 AM |
The % rating is the amount of light transmitted through the tint. I have a 15% smoke tint on my blue WRX and it is like looking through sunglasses. I wouldn't go less than 15% on the front doors and rear glass. You need to check what % your state law allows.
If you want to see what the view is like from the inside, go to your tint garage and they should have a selection of tints you can put against your windows. Good luck.

You might also look at the laws in your state concerning what % is legal. A young lad here at the office just got pulled over today.
He has a 3% tint, which is REALLY dark. 32% is the limit iin Georgia. His fine will be almost $70. ouch.

on a car with a dark interior and without a glass sunroof , itis very hard to see into if it has 20%.

I have 20% all around. I will try to get pics for you later.

I've got 35% all around. I want the cops to be able to look in and see an old man driving so they leave me alone plus you can see the interior mods as well.

I bet that all you guys who have darker than 20% tint are drivin around naked. Come on, admit it....

Its like 11% tint or something, very very dark...and highly illegal on our public passenger vehicles.

Just be careful when using illegal tint. It can be used against you if you get into a car accident that was not your fault. You can end up getting the ticket instead of the person at fault. If there are injuries then you can be held responsible no matter whose fault it is. Basically, it just gives the other persons lawyer ammo to win the case if they sue you. Insurance companies can drop you if they find out as well. I think most of these cases apply more to the really dark tint. Not tint thats only one or 2 shades darker than the legal limit.

Limo Tint = 5% Tint
I have it on all windows of mine except for the windshield. It reallt is not that dark except when you want to park your car at night. I just roll down the windows.
I also have a note fom my Doctor stating I am light sensitive and I had to send a letter to the Secretary of State to make it legal to have tints on my side windows.

For allowable percentage window tints for all states, go to:
www.sema.org
in search box type "tint percentage"
click on comprehensive list
click PDF or HTML version
or simply goto the following link...
http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Law_Chart/State%20Law%20Chart.htm
If you live in the north (except NJ) you are limited to 70% - which is like a normal window with no tint.
I have 15% all around ... so I let off the gas and power my windows down when I see a cop here in PA.

I have Limo tint on all my windows and rear windshield and a 9 inch sun bar, I have been pulled over a few time in New Jersey I am thinking of getting a 15% tint rather then dealing with the hassle of police.
| WheelsCSM | 06-19-2003 12:15 AM |
I have something like 25% on mine and I like it, but it could probably be a little darker, maybe 20%. I never have any problems at night, and it's fairly dark and effective during the day.
My last vehicle had 5% limo tint on it, and I will never do that again. I really loved it during the day (especially since it didn't have AC), but it was too hard to see things at night. I would not recommend it unless you are always in places with tons of streetlights, or you like opening your door and sticking your head out to back up.

Ditto-just got it and it's my first tinted vehicle. My wife wants it now, too. Night vision is a little tougher but I think it's just my lack of experience right now. You can still see inside enough to know if there are people in it but it's not too much. A tremendous help if sun is beating in your window. I will never have a non-tined vehicle again! :D

Maybe off topic a little but has anyone done their own tint?
How hard is the film application to get it right?
I'm thinking about the mirror fading to smoke or blue on a blue STi. Worried that the blue will have that cheesy purple paint-on tint look or that it would just be too much blue!
Anyone use this? Have any pictures??

Thanks for the link - hadn't seen the thread. Pretty much settles it for me tho. I've found a shop locally that does a waranteed job for $150 four 4 windows + back. Think I'll spend the extra $50 to save the hassle if I screw it up.
happy tinting!

Youll have to wait a while...a long while (Ill be getting my car in a few months). But sooner or later I will, unless I can find a really good deal. Right now I dont have any money left with which to do it. You can donate:D
I probably wont tint my windows until the start of next years school year...Ill need it to protect my car from breakins.

I agree, that doesn't look like 35%. I have 35% dark smoke and it has never looked that dark. The picture portrays what in real life would look more like 20%. I have noticed, however, that on days when the sun is behind the clouds the tint looks darker. Maybe thats the case in this picture because it looks as though the sun isn't out.

thanx for the pic. That does look realy dark. I know what ya mean though about it looking darker than it is. The tint on my neon looks realy dark some days. The only thing that worrys me is that it would be too dark for my wife to see out it at night. What I realy need is a pic from the inside out. I know I should just go to a tint shop and ask to see samples, but Ive been working nights latle so its hard to get out to the shop, with my wife there, when their open. Anyways thanx for all the input on this.

You can still see pretty good out of the 35% at night but the 5% is kinda hard to see out of. It is tough to reverse at night.(it doesn't help that I have tinted tail lights so it blocks the reverse light from shining bright)

Love tint on a silver car... too bad NJ prohibits front window tints, so it looks dumb when you tint front and not back
