BishopRe 11-04-2000 03:10 PM

New Impreza

So whats everyones take on the new Impreza? I think it might take some getting used to, but it looks pretty good. Have you seen the rally car for next year? It looks like a cross between a Lancer and a new Mercedes. Ah well, let me know what ya think.

I think that someone is going to make a killing when they develope an aftermarket hood/headlight/grill package that looks good.
Subaru might even have to sell them through their dealers to clear these cars off the lots.
GoFast 11-04-2000 08:11 PM

Reading the lastest SCC, Dave wrote that the North American version could be different! Style wise of course.

(I hope so)
rbehny 11-04-2000 10:19 PM

I'm kinda confused. Should i buy a new 2001 or wait for the complete and total failure of the apperance 2002. Cause then i could get one cheap. (probably)

This is just my opinion. I totally dislike the front mickey-mouse headlights. But if someone comes out with a new fr bumper than, yeah.

My .02 cents
BishopRe 11-05-2000 02:32 AM

Ya, thats what I was thinking too. Why would they take away one of the coolest parts of the car, the ultra aggressive front end. It kinda breaks my heart to know that Subaru wouldnt just be smart and bring the 22B over or the P1!!! How sweet would that be. If they did that I would guarantee they would all be sold to people like you and me in a second. I should be head of North American Subaru, I would please everyone. Ya, you want the P1, ok you got it. That guy over there wants a 22B, alrighty then. The STi, no problemo.... thats what I think, but hey, it could just be me....shyaaa right, I know all of you would back me up on this. Its a petition time, post here if ya agree with me. Now thats my .02 cents.
BishopRe 11-06-2000 03:20 PM

Yes, this I understand. But with someone like me at the top you'll get the car of your dreams even though they do not make them anymore!!!
Subie Gal 11-06-2000 03:44 PM

i myself am waiting on the Turbo Legacy GT rumor.... spoke w/Subaru reps at the Intl auto show... it's coming... just not sure when....

possibly 2003 or 2004...
THAT will be the car!!!!
BishopRe 11-06-2000 03:53 PM

This I did not know, it surely will be a hit. Good car for auto-x. Well hopefully it will come out sooner than that. The WRX sounds mighty fine though, but the Legacy GT-Turbo will definitely be up there as well. SO MANY TO DECIDE FROM!!!!!
Chaincat 11-06-2000 03:59 PM

Ha! :P The Bay Area guys and I are trying to figure out a way to do a group buy on WRXs. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img] So please, everyone out there really hate it until about 3 months after it comes out so we can get ours. If they change the looks, awesome. If they don't I'll have a legit excuse to speed: "Honestly officer, would you want to be seen in this car?" But anyways, my biggest concern is that they made it a porker. Is it true that the new version weighs 300 pounds more? I thought the RS sedan only weighed 5 pounds more or something. I've heard that Subaru is trying to go upmarket so a lot of the weight came from new, 'improved' door panels and such. Anyways, my gf thinks the new one looks good (I don't know what she's thinking either... [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img] ) and she's really picky so I guess it can't be that bad, right?

-Brian (lol-ing all the way to the dealer)
BishopRe 11-06-2000 04:27 PM

Chaincat..... thats the spirit!!! hehe. I dont know about the speeding part. It doesnt look that bad, does it? But just like RickD said, once someone makes a good lookin front end, thier gonna sell like mad. I dunno, we'll have to see if the WRX is worth it...... who am I joking, of course it is!!!! Ive been waiting for one of these since I turned 16 (2 years ago, wow, has it been that long...hehe).
Ken 11-06-2000 04:52 PM

I think it looks awesome now, once I've seen it in person. It looks 10x better than in the magazine pics.

Ken.... are we supposed to get the equivalent of this car in the states? Oh my, if we are........im sellin my 2000 and getting one of those!!! Please write back soon and tell us..... and if you know the approximate date tell us too!
BishopRe 11-06-2000 05:56 PM

I was looking through all of the pictures more carefully just a moment ago and realized that the new Impreza's do not have white face gauges???? Whats this all about? Is this true or are my eyes decieving me? I do realive that this is only a minor thing, but what has happened to Subaru? Are they going to start making full size sport utility vehicles now? They are really being sucked into the whole market now and loosing what got them here in the first place, being different from every other car. Maybe its just me.... maybe I cant accept change, but I'm only 18 years old and thats the one thing i am supposed to accept. Maybe I'm just gripe-ing to much and I'm the only one who feels this way, but I have a good feeling I am not. Maybe you people can help me understand, after all Im only a kid, right?
Julian 11-07-2000 12:27 AM

Dream on. The 22B is gone, no longer in production, and never to be reproduced. As such, you'd have a hard time getting them, even as head of SOA. The P1 was scheduled to be produced in less than 500 units, was upped to 1000 units, and will probably not reach that goal. If they can't sell 1000 P1s in the UK, where the Subaru following is quite strong, why do you think you could sell one here in the States?

Subaru IS giving you the equal of the UK WRX, legal, in the US in a few months. Yet everyone is crying that they don't like the looks, blah blah blah. Get over it. Every other country has got the same looks, the US will be no different (despite every new poster and his supposed rumors). It'll have a turbo, it'll have AWD, it'll be around $25G, what more do you want? I'd consider it lucky that the US even gets that.

Volvokiller 11-08-2000 12:17 AM

Yeah, I agree. I think I am going to stay with my 99 RS just because it has white face gauges. I mean how much of a performance car can the new Impreza be without the white face gauges?
RidinLow 11-08-2000 12:37 AM

No Chris, real performance cars have carbon fiber gauges. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif[/img]
Leonardo 11-08-2000 06:43 AM

Rummors flying arround mention a different front end for the US cars. Dealer here is keeping quiet thoug I ofered a 2k deposit instead of buying the Turbo kit.

I'm going to buy it. So far I like all the media and other current owners opinions on the handling. My RS is so americanized with it's cushy handling, I hope we get what everyone else gets.

A dream would be to see an order code for the sport suspension which inturn deletes the radio and a/c. Heck, no sunroof, powerwindows, locks would be ok too. There is at least 50+ pounds right there

BishopRe 11-08-2000 07:29 AM

Oh wait a second now. I live in Arizona and I need that A/C like no other..... I get what your saying though and it is a pretty good idea, but I do not think the demand for these will be big enough for them to manufacture. Possibly if a aftermarket company buys from Subaru and does this, they will make them to order. Now this wouldnt be a half bad idea, but how many people are gonna tear up thier daily drivers?
RS_NW 11-08-2000 09:06 AM

I think that people will learn to like the car better once it has come out. When the 2000 Celica came out I didn't like it either, it's kinda grown on me now. Then again there are some cars that will never look good in some people's eyes. I'm thinking to give it time maybe it will grow on me too (only seen pics).
BishopRe 11-08-2000 02:06 PM

I feel this way too. As I have only seen the car in pictures I feel I can not make a good judgment on whether I like it or not. It looks pretty good and I asked a couple of friends that criticize everything, they actually said it looked pretty cool.....
kevinsUBARU 11-08-2000 03:01 PM

I adore it, but some of you guys are being too damn picky. I mean, could they have designed the lights better (maybe..but did anyone stop and think for a second that maybe theyre like that for a good reason!?)Count me in...after all, it is a Subaru, it has AWD, and its a Turbo with a factory warrenty..what more could you want!?!?
Ken 11-08-2000 03:06 PM

I like it even more than when the first magazine photos came out. But when you're sitting inside it, and here nothing but *growl* and are being pushed back in your seat, the nitty picky style issue about the headlights, etc. didn't even matter to me anymore. And that was with me in the passenger seat.

K
BishopRe 11-08-2000 05:51 PM

Well Ken, most of us havent had the pleasure. hehe. When I first saw the body in a magazine I hated it, I almost broke down and cried. But now that Ive seen more pics of the car (thanks Ken) and talked to people about it, its actually a pretty cool car.
ChaosThom 11-09-2000 07:59 AM

I am in no doubt going to trade in my MY00 2.5RS for this bad boy. I think it looks awesome - not to mention the added power...
copec 11-09-2000 03:49 PM

I actually like the look of the headlights with that tri-pod design (STI v. ?)

I think it looks pretty good stock, it'll have to grow on me. 300 more lbs, you know how easy it will be to make up for that since its factory turbo'd? Looks at how many incredibly fast DSM's are running around.

Good suspension will make the car feal exactly the same weight too.

Dont get me wrong, I'm all for lightness, but 300lbs is a fair traidoff for just HAVING a factory turbo here
BishopRe 11-09-2000 07:25 PM

Copec.... couldnt agree with you more, 300 lbs. is no biggy. It would be on the 2.5RS but with a factory turbo this thing is gonna haul!!!!!! Your also right about the dsm's, thats a hefty car.... peace outside.
AKGC8 11-10-2000 02:56 AM

The new WRX is only a little over 100 lbs heavier than the current 2.5rs. I don't remember the exact #'s, but the RS is in the 2800's and the WRX is about 2975 lbs. The weight difference that the magazines a talking about is compared to the old bare bones Turbo GT that was like 2700 some odd lbs. So the weight difference is not that much for us.
BishopRe 11-11-2000 10:32 AM

Well thats even better then!
Pipercub 11-11-2000 10:20 PM

I have said it before and I will say it again.
They can change the style and that only makes my 2 door coupe even more rare. Since I am turning the thing into a 22B anyway it will be even rarer still. Still I hate to see the new one turn into a NEON.
BishopRe 11-13-2000 08:45 PM

The new Sport Compact Car has a review on the new Impreza body styling. First off, they like it. Second of all they say the weight is going to be slightly heavier than the japan spec (this we already knew) but the japan spec is 110 lbs more than the 2.5RS. A total of 2,948 lbs. So just add on a nice hunk of not-needed metal or two and you got U.S. weight. (interpretaion of the japan spec transforming into US spec) The overall car will be one inch bigger in length, width, track and height. The wheelbase will stay virtually the same. SCC says that there will be some sort of swirl control valve in the intake which regulates how much air flow (wheres the flow?) the impreza will be consuming. They also say that a "untested" or reliable source has said that the US front end will be quite different. The lights are rectangular, but the roofline and fenders will stay the same. Well its a test of time... lets see what sort of clever idea Subaru has lined up for us this year.
