Hey, cool. Ive been thinking about one of those. Does it have the little ring that will keep the stock boot up? btw, post some pics when you're done!

Which Prodrive shift nob is it?
this one:

or this one:

b/c sometimes people think this is a Prodrive Shift Knob when its really an STi one.

two questions then,
1. does it make the shift knob any higher then say the STi Ti shift knob? 2. Is the shift-ball as fat around as the Momo?

It fits great
noggin,
Yes it has the lip at the bottom so the boot fits like stock. There is a rubber ring that you slip over the threaded shifter shaft to keep it from spinning. I have the knob with the blue insert. I don't have a digital camera so I can't post my pic yet. This knob is very well made and fits perfect. Oh yeah and it is good for another 5hp like Barry said. :D

Do the knobs have a brushed aluminum look or is it more like chrome?
| Barry | 02-06-2002 02:52 PM |
more like chrome-

Prodrive Knob "Chrome"
Just got my Prodrive shift knob today and I was a little disappointed.
I was expecting a brushed Al knob (one that would match the interior trim) but it looks a lot like a chrome finish to me!
I don't know why they plated it? The finish is only going to wear off over time.
I'm sending mine back. It's my fault I should have asked more specific questions about the color.

NOT PLATED
bcristea,
NO Prodrive shift knobs are plated. It is polished aluminum. It will patina in a while and will not be super shiney. If you like, take it to a machine shop and have them brush it for you......unless you have a Dremel type of tool. Then it can be DIY

I must admit that I bought the knob on a whim thinking it would liven up the interior a bit. After installing it today I realize it does much more than that. The whole feel of the shifter has changed for the better, it now feels heavier, more substantial. This is a great product.
I was worried about the finish but its polished aluminum and will in time loose its luster so to speak.

Semi off-topic, but where can you find that spacer shown on the top pic, to give it that tri-stage look? I like-it-alot..

That "spacer" in the top pic is the reverse lockout ring for the STi six-speed. So...get one of those if you want!

uwrx,
thanks for the pic - looks good. also, is that plug for a cell
phone or radar detector? i've got a good mod to hard wire
your detector that someone showed me. if you want to unclutter
the center console area, it'll help...pm me about it if interested.

grimlock is correct - the "spacer" is the 6MT reverse lock
I can supply a 6MT if you like... :)

it looks really sweet! one question does it get hot in the summer & sun? that's the only thing I wouldn't like about it.
| gjhsu | 08-21-2002 05:47 PM |
Someone requested a picture of a black one? It's not the biggest picture, but gives you an idea of the interior:

It definitely feels heavier in the shifting and not hollow like the stock one felt, it's also bigger. All of those are good things. Really worth the $60 I paid.

but how come the boot is so low, it look amazing with that weird shifter.
| MattDell | 08-21-2002 10:28 PM |
How high is the shift knob? Right now I have a Kartboy shift knob and I love how low it sits, but this looks just about as high as the stock shifter.
| SAW | 08-21-2002 11:29 PM |
I think the Prodrive knob feels a bit taller than stock.
Just my opinion. I haven't measured it.
I like the feel except when I get out of work and it is smoking hot.
But that only lasts a few minutes with the ac on.

Yeah, it does feel a bit higher than stock, but I have the STi SS, so it feels better, IMO. And,yes, it does get hot as hell, but just aim the A/C at it, and it cools... eventually.
