Wagon Waste Spolier

If you have a wagon waist spolier that did not come on your car, where did you get it and how much did you pay for it (including shipping)? I've been quoted ~$600 Shipped and painted from a few places and I want to make sure that sounds about right

I think the only one I've seen (not that I was looking specifically for it) was on Vivid. It was around $500+ and only came in silver.

Never seen one cheaper than $495 unpainted :(
good luck

Langston Subaru (a vendor on here) sells this one (pic seems to be down) for <$300 unpainted.

I bought my EDM Subaru waist spoiler from a fellow NASIOC member. I did pay an arm and a leg($575 shipped) though. It came painted and looks killer. I like the UK wing better than the Canadian wing because it slants down at the ends. The Canadian version looks like a potato wedge ;) If you want his screen name I can get it for you. It did take a while to get because it was back-ordered worldwide. It took about 3-4 months to get. Well worth the wait though. My advice...go with the actual Subaru equipment. Yeah, it's expensive, but it comes painted and all hardware and instructions are included. Good luck with your search.

I think the waist spoiler looks awesome. But $600 is not what I'm willing to pay. It's a shame Subaru doesn't offer this here in the US. Anyone know why?

Thanks guys for the replies. I figured that was the going price, it sucks that I'll have to pay an arm and a leg to have it shipped from the UK, but the color will match perfect. I plan on having the dealer slap it on, that way if they fudge up, its their fault and not mine. I wanted to get the STI hood scoop 1st, but I don't feel like getting all of the splitters needed to direct the air to the intercooler just yet, plus I can do that myself without having to drill any new holes.

I got one for my 02 a couple years ago from Vivid. At the time, it came from Japan, but looking at their web site now, they list two from the UK, although I can't tell what is different about them. They are listed at $439.99, which is roughly what I recall paying. Don't remember how much shipping was, but it wasn't cheap. I will say I paid less than $500 total. It was prepainted, although I deliberately choose a different color than the rest of my car.
I had my dealer install mine. Service center wouldn't touch it, so the body shop got to play with it. They did a nice job. Don't remember how much it cost, but I seem to recall it was roughly 2 hours of labor.

If you get the EDM spoiler, it comes w/ all hardware, drilling template, and instructions. It's reall easy to install...you really can't go wrong unless you put tape the template upside down or something ;) It only took me and my buddy 40 min to install. That would probably cost at least $60 if you went to a shop. Again, I highly recommend getting the actual Subaru part because the paint color is right on...plus you get that drilling template. Good luck to all who decide to get this waist spoiler.

Anyone know if these can be had at Canadian Subaru dealers (I visit periodically)?
| MK19_ | 02-04-2004 04:05 AM |
$600 is about right, any 02-03 Subaru WRX color, painted by Subaru... $550 plus S&H from Japan (special order that is)

subydude.com has them in silver too (that's the only color he has)

Ok, I just checked my records, and I paid $374.99 +$60 S&H, total of $434.99.
I show an installation cost of $226.70, but that included the install of the carbon fiber fender vents, and I believe the cost of a rental car for the day. So, the portion for the spoiler was probably about $100~$125.
This was in April 2002.

Mishmosh,
You can get the Canadian version waist spoiler while you're in Canada, but it will look different than the JDM/EDM version. The picture that blackwerks posted(on the black wagon) is the JDM/EDM wing. The Candian version is flat and does not bend down at the ends. Some people refer it to looking like a potato wedge.
Bslickoh---that's a pretty good price you got your spoiler for. I ordered mine around the same time you got yours. Who did you get yours through and did it come from Japan or the UK?

Huh. Maybe it's my tired eyes, but I saw that back picture and actually stared at it for a while thinking "why did he post a sedan picture in a wagon thread".
Not sure if I like it or not.

A direct shot from the back doesn't give a good look of the waist spoiler. You need a shot that shows the back and the sides. I saw a crashed STi wagon on ebay that had the waist spoiler and also body kit. It looked fantastic. Not sure if the spoiler would look as good if you didn't have a body kit on it. I think at minimum, you should have the painted side skirts.
Mike: thanks for the info on the CDN version. I would actually consider that if it was available at a reasonable cost.

I've been wanting this for a while now, but just can't see myself paying that much for it at this time, definitely later on down the road. I saw a bunch of them, ok 3 total, at the South Coast Subaru meet a couple of weeks ago, and I must say, I love the way it looks!

I just got in my wagon JDM front lip 2 days ago. It's gonna look killer with the waist spoiler I have on now. I paid just as much for the lip shipped from Japan...but again, I think it's worth it because it is painted from the factory and I heard the WRB color is so hard to duplicate otherwise. I'm not putting the lip on until the snow melts :(

Agreed. Someone posted pics of it recently on their car and it makes the front end look so much better!

Does ANYONE have the waist spoiler template? I have a white waist spoiler I got off of an actual STi wagon and after I get it painted WRB (unless I can find a trade), I need to get it mounted. Heh, it's 4 screws and 2 bolts... how tough can it be? Template please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are a few pictures of the Canadian waist spoiler. The pictures don't really do it justice but you get the idea.

I finally got mine on today... I figure it isn't too bad considering I had to make my own templates. Hell, even the body shop who painted was leary of doing it w/o a factory template. Heh, saved myself the $90 they wanted- Ptttfffff!!!!!! Pics in a few minutes :D

bummer and i will let you know. $600 is just a bit hard to swallow from suby dude.

Quite frankly I like the "Canadian" one better- I think it blends better w/ the wagon- the jdm one reminds me of the sedan wing.
