I made a 3 over 3 center gauge pod for the GC part 1

I made a 3 over 3 center gauge pod for the GC
I like the idea of looking in one place to see all the gauges at once. If someone can post the photo for me, I will e-mail the photo to you.

Let me know if you want to see it.

A little much for me too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like a rigged up headrest mounted on the dash. It's creative...I'll give you that.

It sure is a monster

i personally think it will be too cluttered with gauges. if you had like three A pillar gauges and three in thre center gauge pod location, it would be a lot easier to look at. plus, how do you see over that thing man?
gerbs 09-21-2003 12:35 AM

WAAAAAAAAY too big for me
Paul Sakai 09-21-2003 12:49 AM

It's a good idea but too big for my taste. I am going to use the standard 3 center pod and remove the center vents to make room for the other gauges.
Need4Boost 09-21-2003 02:27 AM

That is one massive gauge pod.
fragment 09-21-2003 10:07 AM

<nevermind>
wrx320 09-21-2003 12:43 PM

great idea. a little bit big and tacky looking.

perhaps you could reduce the height a bit by reducing the distance between guages. or maybe 5 guages instead of 6 and kinda stagger them like the olympic rings to reduce the overall height. just my thoughts but it is your car , so , good job.
wgknestrick 09-21-2003 01:13 PM

Looks like an airplane cockpit. Do you really need all those gauges? I have a hard time thinking of 3 gauges that I need, rather alone 6.
Gravel-Fun 09-21-2003 03:12 PM

I am actually thinking about the 5 (olympic sp.) style. It's easy to change the faceplate. The pod really does not look overwhelming in the car.

I think the gauges in one place looks LESS cluttered than 3 on the dash and 3 on the pillar or steering column.

Six Gauges:

Boost
EGT
Oil Pressure
Oil Temp
Water Temp
Air/Fuel

I may go to an AVO air/fuel LED Gauge, instead of a round one.

Honestly, more negative feedback than I expected. Oh well.

HOLY CRAP IS THAT EVER UGLY!!!!!!!!

Gee, Thanks:rolleyes:

Gross!!! i've seen a TV display fitted in there that looked 100times better.
IronMonkeyL255 09-21-2003 08:27 PM

Would look alot better if you dropped it down and removed the center A/C vents. Good idea putting them all in the same place, but could use a little work on the execution.

Comments like this make me want to sell my RS.
Hondaslayer 09-21-2003 08:42 PM

Why not mount all 6 where the radio resides and reinstall an aftermarket radio where the gauge pod goes? Much less cluttered and better looking IMHO.

Deuce Bigelow: Damn! Thats one big bitch!

Gotta give you props for innovation. Too big for my taste, but then again, maybe it just looks that way in the pictures.

I second the vote for staggering it Olympic ring style. That would really cut down on height, you still get 5 gauges, it is original, and they are all in one spot.

Either way, I love gauges, and I love them all to look the same. Please don't mix and match brands and color if you can help it.

Some people have no tact, but at the same time we are all from varying backgrounds and have different ideas about what is rice, what is not, what's ugly what is not. Like I think that gold wheels on a blue car is the ugliest thing I have ever seen.

Your cluster looks like a stay puff marshmellow man on the top of your dash. It was poorly designed, but your CONCEPT is fine. Take offense to the fact that people have said it is the ugliest thing they have ever seen, yes. However, don't take offense when you post a picture publically. Did you not expect people to say anything at all? Unfortunately behind the internet, people are not required anymore to not say something if they don't have anything nice to say. If you asked your local buddies what they thought, they'd all probably say they liked it just to save face. Unfrotunately, this time you got the truth.

I'm not hating on you, great creativity and I wish I had the skill to create like you do, but your design was just a little bulky this time.

interesting....but i think i have more questions about the shifter?!! if that is what it is?? My....that is a big one! how are the throws? Thats alot of leverage!

but back to the pod... I do like the all in one location look but what about smaller gauges or the 5 ring look and more slope to the sides??

gotta luv DIYs!:p
silverF4turbo 09-22-2003 12:05 AM

Kind of obtrusive... It'd look better with a normal gauge pod and the extra three gauges cup-mounted on top of it by themselves.... or with the extra 3 column-mounted... but whatever.:D
Gravel-Fun 09-22-2003 01:16 AM

I don't mind the reviews. Bad or not. People can be a little rude, though, over the web.

Yes, that is my shifter. It's an extended Kartboy. It's about 8" higher than normal. It makes the throws about 3/4" longer than stock. It actually works very well in rallycross, because the shifter is very close to the steering wheel. (height)

The extended shaft is covered with wire loom sleeve.

Interesting....

So what did you use to extend? Looks like a very small distance from the wheel to the shifter. I like the "rally style" ....now only if it were sequencial....:D hehe

good stuff...very crafty!;)
Gravel-Fun 09-22-2003 07:02 AM

I used some large diameter all-thread, that matched the knob I chose. It is fairly narrow.

Speaking of a sequential conversion...........I believe I know how to make a paddle-shift conversion of the STOCK 5 speed. This may sound like B.S., but I have no reason to make this up.

I just haven't had the tme to fool with it. I thought about contacting Tom at Kartboy, to help with the final fitting. Maybe a little later.

:D is that the "punch game" from "the price is right"?
willow 10-07-2003 01:04 AM

Oh wow! You made my jaw drop. Went beyond my imagination. It does seem a bit much for my taste.
subiekid 10-07-2003 02:14 AM

i wonder if they could give you a ticket for that.
akcel 10-07-2003 02:34 AM

it would be illegal too...lol thats f'ing gross...if you do plan on selling your rs, sell it to someone with taste please :)
BakedCookies 10-07-2003 10:34 AM

although i give you credit for effort and dedication to a project.. i just had to do this... never in your mind did you think, "Woah, this is too much"?

Not my style, but good work. If it were me, if i wanted 3 more gauges i would just put them on the pillar.
