Why I hate Speed channel...

They would rather show an ARCA/ReMax race that has about 90+ fans attending the actual race instead of showing their own sponsored SCCA race series that is supposed to be on right now.
What's the point of being of sponsoring a race series if you don't even air the race on your own channel?!

They love airing roundy round races. I wish they would cover more scca events.
| Vampyr | 07-22-2006 04:20 PM |
There is supposed to be a SCCA Touring Car race... and then a Speed GT race.... but the ARCA/ReMax race was delayed... so they aren't even showing the SCCA races in favor of 3+ hours of a ARCA race.
ARGH! They panned a shot of all the people in attendance of the race... I'd say maybe 130 people at the most. I've had more people at my wedding than the ARCA series race has.

A little history lesson. NASCAR wanted to have their own TV network. After doing a little research they found out it was cheaper to buy a network, than start from scratch.NASCAR teamed up with FOX networks( FOX knew how to run a TV channel) and bought SpeedVision.Since NASCAR came up with most of the cash to buy SpeedVision they get to call the shots. This is why you see lots of Stock Car racing on Speed, and you always will.I used to race Formula Fords, and run Stage Rallys. I only watch the last 20 minutes of a Cup race to see the best part.I am not a die hard NASACAR fan, it was better 20 years ago, but I am a motorsport fan. Watching Speed TV is still much better than most crap on TV, like Dr. Phil or such.
Sorry no Cliff Notes.

well... I did hear the announcer from the ARCA race say that the SCCA race will be showed in its entirity... regardless.... why not just rebroadcast the ARCA race at 2AM like they do with every other non-stockcar race?!
oh well.. today's schedule is completely screwed up... so I guess I'm cancelling my plans today to watch the SCCA races.
My wife hates me... my kid's crying... and all I want to do is have some peace and quite to watch the SCCA races. SPEED CHANNEL I HATE YOU. :furious:

Wow, that's why Speed TV sucks so much. Honestly, I'll never understand how people can be entertained by left turns, but maybe that's just me.
PS Anyone else think the guy on Pinks looks like he's about to take off when launching cars?

yes, yes I do.
Heres the problem I have with SPEED, and I guess its not so much them. They realize for every 1 person in the US that enjoys all forms of racing, there is 100 that like NASCAR. So, they capitalize on it. I have said numerous times that SPEED needs to branch out and make a SPEED2. Put all the racing that isn't NASCAR or NHRA on there. It worked for ESPN when they brought out ESPN2 for the Extreme sports. Maybe it would work.

It's either Honda/Acura crap or NASCAR.
And it always says "Get your adrenaline rush with Speed TV on 24/7" when Oxiclean and the Tornado power saver infomercials are on after 12am. Yeah what a rush.

The infomercials and the 'series' shows (Pinks, Speed Test Drive, American Chopper, Build or Bust, etc) are the only things that really bother me about Speed anymore. I can live with the NASCAR coverage if they'd atleast show something worth watching during the off-peak hours.

they may have shown the touring car and gt races in their entirety, but my tivo only caught about 1 3/4 hours of the arca race, and the first 15 min of the touring car race! and of course they're not going to replay the scca races like they do the arca races or the stupid behind the wrenches shows! so stupid. it's their own freakin' racing series and they're the ones killing it!

This is the part about SpeedTV that absolutely kills me...the Speed World Challenge series is some of the best racing on TV today and they are doing everything they can to kill it. And when it does go bye bye they will write it off to poor ratings. Something about a self-fullfilling propehcy comes to mind....
And the really funny part is that I made a couple posts about this subject over on the Speedtv forums and they got deleted...apparently the mods there don't like ANY criticism.

f1 qualifying is the only thing exciting about the weekend. atleast they did show both races in their entirety, i just happened to flip over around 5 & saw the touring race was starting so i set the tivo before i left. if it's not a form of nascar it's not important, unfortunately a HUGE percentage of their viewers only care about nascar stuff so they're are obviously going to cater towards them

the entire southern part of our country is overflowing with white people that have red colored necks and need to be reminded to pull their pants up, that can only understand a race that has left turns.... and are unable to comprehend any more complex forms of racing. There will never be no nascar, unless some terrorist blows up each race track the night before race day.... hmmmmm

It's all about dollars and cents folks. I dislike NASCAR as much as the rest of you, however the money generated from it for sponsors leads it to be the most popular and since Speed is in business to make money, not make you happy, they are going to go with what pays the bills. Similarly, Soccer is a world sport, however it doesn't make money in the US so it isn't aired or played here professionally. If tomorrow Soccer was what folks would be willing to watch and pay for, the team owners and networks would be like "What's NFL?"

I thought he was saying that F1 was not being shown, period.
And why are Champ Car tracks so bleh? If they ran on better tracks, I think this would be an attractive alternative to F1 as there is more passing, and even more touching. The airport tracks are very bland, and don't look like race tracks.
When is Road America?

While I agree with you on part of it... NASCAR makes money... but the problem is that most of the content of Speed Channel is not actual NASCAR but spinoffs of NASCAR. ARCA doesn't have that much of a attendance... but yet Speed spends the money to broadcast it?! If it was about money... I have a feeling that Speed Channel takes a loss on broadcasting races like ARCA and USAR.... even Bobsledding is broadcast on Speed during the Winter... how can they possibly afford it?!
The other problem with the channel is that they constantly bombard you with NASCAR related commercials. While watching an F1 series race/qualifying... I see commercials for NASCAR this and that... do they not even TRY to understand the demographics of their customers?!
Speed Channel is a love/hate relationship. You love it, because there isn't any other channel... you hate it because, there isn't any other channel.
I just wish someone would invest the time and money to start a motorsports channel that covers other sports. I would LOVE to see a JGTC race or a BTCC race.. or even a GTR race (that is in line with the GTR game).
If SCCA and NASA got their act together... they could advertise memberships on the channel and make buttloads of money.
To be honest... if NASCAR was THAT big of a money maker, and Speed Channel honestly wanted to cash in on it... than I'd rather have Speed channel completely become NASCAR TV... and get rid of all the other racing!!!
It would at least allow room for someone else to start a real auto racing channel.

You watched CBS lately?
Do they own the rights to ALMS? Cause the fact that they showed CCWS and ALMS back to back makes them almost better than Speed in that aspect.
If there ever was a Motorsports channel without NASCAR, CBS would probably be in the mix.

...or how about a car show like Top Gear or Best Motoring that doesn't suck? I was watching some "review" show that was focusing on BMW's, it wasn't so much a journalistic review as it was BMW infomercial circle jerk.
It sucks that the only place I can find a quality car show is on the internet, and depending on the specific show I have to pray that it's been translated. But most of the time watching an untranslated clip from Best Motoring is still better than what you get on the Speed Channel.
