Just did the swap with v9 spec C seats. Went well. I can post some pics later if needed but I feel like these guys have really covered everything.
I didn't fabricate a new holder for the bladder sensor it actually fit in between the seats and a bar. I just zip tied it down.
The only thing I couldnt figure out is how to get the driver side seat to have the hight adjustment so I have a regular seat with hks jdm rails. Sits fine I'm not really worried about it. No airbag lights and the passenger side works! Thanks for all the info. Awesome thread.

By any chance, does anyone have the part numbers for the detection bladder and module?

I was able to find these parts on here but the previous owner, for some reason, cut the tube going from the bladder to the sensor and some of the oil has drained out. I'm about 150 and the airbag doesn't turn on when i sit in it. But if i grab the sides of the seat and pull my self down it turns on.
Anyone know at which weight it's suppose to turn on and what kind of oil is used in the bladder?
The oil is very thick. About the same thickness as man batter. It's clear and has no odor. The guy i bought the parts from thought it was mineral oil.

I've got a bit of a problem. I replaced my 06 seats with bugeye seats, everything is hooked up and there's no airbag light but the passenger airbag is on all of the time. Has anyone else had this problem with the bladder in bugeye seats?
| kmhunsaker | 02-11-2012 09:50 PM |
I have the same problem as Keithwrx8 except I have put 04 STi seats into my 07 WRX. I bought the car with them in there already and I'm not sure why the airbag light is on. I read all through this forum with no solution. The unused connector on the passenger side is a male plug. It does not look the same as these pictures. I have been told that from 06 or 07 and up you cannot swap seats into because they changed the ECU or something and how it recognizes the airbag system. Therefore you can only maintain the SRS system by having the stock seats. I don't know if I just need a bladder in that seat or if these STi seats are incompatible altogether. I've searched everywhere and cannot find any info. Please help, thanks.

The SRS from 04s will work so that connector is probably from a missing bladder.

Occupancy Detector Blatter Bypass

Some of you have asked if its possible to bypass the occupancy detector blatter in the seat.
Ive made a solution to this problem and here's what you will need:
1) 5v 1a voltage regulator, i bought mine from The Source http://www.thesource.ca/estore/product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=Semi+Conductors%2fIC%27s&product=2761770
2) electrical wire
3) bullet connectors
4) solid wire to use as pins
Instructions:
Connect the occupancy detector in the same way that it was connected before however removing the blatter and MAF sensor connected to the end of the blatter. You will be left with just the harness that comes out of the control module.
Looking at the connector with the fastening clip facing UP (towards you)
from left to right, the first pin is 5v power, the middle pin is the sensor and the end pin is the ground. The sensor pin sends power fluctuating between 1-3 volts and the ground needs to see between 4.1 and 4.8 volts.
Connect the 5v Power pinout (Pin 1) to the INPUT on the regulator.
Connect the sensor pinout (Pin 2) to the OUTPUT on the regulator
Connect the ground pinout (Pin 3) to the GROUND on the regulator.
This will then take the 5v power, and the fluctuating power and regulate it to the ground resulting in 4.1 volts output tricking the control module into thinking that the system has returned the correct voltages leaving the passenger airbag in OFF mode.
This case will only be true depending on the resistance of the wires and regulator it could potentially go into ON mode as well. Regardless it will remove the airbag light from your dash and return your airbag system returning to a functional state.
If you want to be able to control the ON/OFF state of the passenger air bag you will need to connect a potentiometer (with external power and ground) to the GROUND circuit so you can fluctuate between 4.1 and 4.8 volts. You could of course set the potentiometer to 4.8 volts and wire in a switch in series so you can easily switch between ON/OFF at the flick of a switch, or perhaps wire it into the passenger seat belt.
I cant guarantee this will work for you, I just set this up this morning and thought id share my solution with everyone. Let me know your results of if you have any questions.

Thanks TRooper for the "how-to" with pics!!
I wanted, needed,to change the seats in my 2007 Impreza wagon for about a year now. Once I found this thread I knew better what I would be getting into. Found a complete set of 02-03(?) Impreza seats for a good price AND in the colour I was hoping for. Did the swap over the weekend and everything worked out fine on first try! Very happy with myself!... but I have to say I would not have attempted the swap if I had not found this thread first. Many thanks to others here who added details and relevant questions over the years. NASIOC is a gold mine!
I'll try and post pics if anyone wants to see... :derp:

Airbags, heated seats, height adjustment, everything works!
Why "downgrade" from '07 to '02? Comfort and practicality.
Here's a link to the album with most of the steps in between.

It's possible that a resistor or other connection may have vibrated loose. Just double check your connections.

Checked, thanks. Even tried different resistors, no luck. I'll go through it all again shortly.

It's a little more work, but nothing too hard to do. While you're at it, you can add height adjustment to the Driver's side Spec C with a base swap from your stock 06 WRX seat. In fact, you can do base swaps on both seats and save a few steps in this tutorial.

I will definitely be back in this thread the day I start to swap. going to need some help!
| pezcore | 10-23-2012 08:02 PM |
So I tried tackling this today, starting with the drivers seat and had no luck. My v7 JDM seat has 0 plugs (not even seatbelt) and nothing lines up the same. Can't swap cushions because the metal bases are totally different. Swapping just rails would be pointless as all the sensors are attached to the base. I don't know what to do :(
I can probably do the passenger bladder swap but nothing else will get hooked up. Can I do the resistor trick in every plug? There are 4 of them under the driver's seat.
Really don't want to give up my seats but I can't sacrifice the airbag system :(

Update: weather was nice today (high 40's!) so I went back to this. Swapped over the bladder, the seatbelts, all the plugs and did the resistor mod. Everything works and no airbag light! This was done in and 06 wrx with JDM spec C v7 seats. Thanks for this thread!

Will need to re-vist and re-read this thread thoroughly again. I read this initially when I first bought my WRX in April of 2010 that came with Sparco seats and the airbag light on.
The previous owner even already had the resistors in place but I do not think he transferred over the bladder into the passenger Sparco seat. From my understanding, if any aspect of the "system" is not connected, it will still throw the airbag light?
Do you happen to know where I can find the bladder separately??? I have not had any luck finding just the bladder being sold by itself.
TIA

Yes I think any 'missing' piece of this system gives you an airbag light. I never looked to see if the bladder had a part number or if anyone sold it alone, so your best bet is the classifieds. Maybe buy the entire seat and resell them after you remove the bladder.

seat cover swap instead of system swap?

Hello from Austria :).
First i want to say thanks to those people who managed to make this how-to for us :).
I managed to get some V9 JDM Spec C Type RA seats, and I'm very happy :).
Before i start to swap my MY06/07 EDM WRX seats, i was wondering if I have to take care of any possible problems with the airbag system etc., so i started to read this and some other threads very carefully, for some day's now.
I got all informations for the swap and i think i could manage it by myself...
however, i was wondering, if somebody tried, to swap the seat covers/cushion, instead of swaping the detection or airbag system etc.?
as i wasn't able to find this, does somebody know, if the seat base of a MY06/07 WRX and STI seat, are the same?
would it make sense, to swap the entire sti covers with the wrx covers?
maybe someone have an idea?
thanks!

Bumping this thread instead of creating another...
ok... So I have an 07 Impreza 2.5i and have potentially lined up someone to swap their leather seats with me. He has a bugeye. Not sure where his seats originated from, but this is what they look like:

How easy would the swap be? Would I have to go through all the steps outlined in this thread to make it work with the airbag system? any help is much appreciated
Edit: Just read through the thread again this time more thoroughly. Looks like everything still needs to be swapped over...
Edit 2: After looking at the pictures of the seats I am beginning to think that they are just covers anyway...

I performed the removal part of this mod today... removing the weight sensing bladder and control module from my stock 06sti seat. Maybe soon I'll get around to attempting to install it into my aftermarket seat.
