I just began uploading up iemonslice,

First of all i would like to give a BIG thanks to Clegg for ripping the rally and encoding to DVD and second BIG thanks to pio!pio! for ripping the rally from the DVD and encoding to DIVX. I have to say that the DIVX encoding is just beatifully done. In order to view this avi file, you will need the latest OpenDIVX codec which is available at [url]www.projectmayo.com[/url] .

it's better to get the codec from [url]www.divx.com[/url] and not [url]www.projectmayo.com[/url] cuz that one is newer and faster and all that good stuff.

Actually, I talked to Clegg about that and he seems to agree with me that it is a good system (ie, he burns it to dvd, I rip it, you host it).
Thanks for the comments about the encoding quality btw, I was still a little disappointed with it, but what can ya do eh? :D Besides, coming from the TV source, it's still pretty damn good.
Now we just need one more step. Instead of recording off of digital satellite tv into an s-video or component video capture card. Find a way to directly copy it off the harddrive of a directivo or ultimatetv. that way there is no analog conversion, it stays purely a digital mpeg2 stream from the satellite into the computer and then mastered onto dvd. oh my oh my! but i have a feeling the stream is encrypted when it is written to the hdd of the pvr

use a ftp program and your host would be his IP and the port number.... I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head... click on his link few posts ahead, which gives you the ip address...

which player should i use? I use windows media player and the player from [url]www.divx.com.[/url] WMP jerks on video and divx.com player jerks on sound. Acutally, it sounded like a broken record. HELP!! I want to watch the thing, but video and sound don't sync! :(

well..after downloading the codec from divx.com I generally use sasami ([url]www.sasami2k.com[/url]) but I use WMP if all else fails.
What speed computer are you running? That may be the source of the problem. What you can try is to load the video in WMP6.1 (not WMP 7 or 8. load it by clicking start->run, then type 'mplayer2') Then load the video, right click on it, choose properties, goto advanced (i think), choose the divx codec, and chage the postprocessing level to mininum,
This might not be the exact guideline as I am writing this from memory. The post processing chews up some cpu cycles so you may want to turn it off

ya da man!! 'mplayer2' works! yeah, I am running off an OLD machine... It's a IBM Thinkpad 600E back from the old days... :D Don't have money to get a new laptop and don't have room for a new desktop.... (college apt)... but it's working now, so no problem!! Thanks again!

Finished D/L and watched the day 1 file. Looks really good on my TV. D/Ling 2-4 overnight now :)
And thanks for maximizing space for 1 file/CD pio!pio! :) I'm a newbie with divX, and I find it amazing that you can tweak the file size to just fit under 1 CD :)

Speedvision isnt broadcast in 16:9 or 1080i ( NOT the same thing)

now to think about it, my third system is sitting at home (i am at school right now) collecting dust! It's a PII 300. DARN i just gave away 4 SCSI 4GBHDs :mad:... I have bunch of new parts sitting around.... I just need a new board and cpu! :) Okay, I've been out of this hardware buz for a while, will my tower fit the new P4 board? I assume the power suppy should work too right? It's a full tower by the way...

Just make sure you get one of those P4 boards that have the 4pin (+5, gnd, gnd, +12) plugs on the motherboard. P4 needs an extra 12V power supply.

OK, I'm retarded. I finally got the first day dl'd and I can't get it to play in any player. I get audio but no video. I've tried installing the codec, but it doesn't show it as being installed in WMP 6.4 (the program that is opening when I run mplayer2). I've followed the previous posts about selecting the correct codec and everything, but I just can't get it to work. It doesn't list any of the codecs that I've tried installing. I tried it in WMP 7.01 and that doesn't work either. Same thing, audio but no video. HELP!!!

did you download the latest version of the codec from [url]www.divx.com?[/url] The latest version is 4.12 which is what I used to create the videos

Yes, I downloaded the codec. I just can't figure out how to make it show up in WMP 6.4 (mplayer2). It doesn't show up in the list of installed codecs. ARGHHH! Anyone...anyone?

I figured it out. I don't know how I could have screwed up, but I d/l'd the wrong codec. Thanks again to everyone that helped make this possible. I am having speed issues though, and the server seems to keep dropping me off. I'm using SmartFTP though, what are you guys using? I tried WS_FTP, but wasn't that ecstatic.

whoever has the dvd currently, can you check to see if it is that way on the dvd or is it all 4 days on the dvd (in which case i messed it up)
