Seen this one for the Imp. but I can't find a pic of it... But yeah it's on this site somewhere...
Idk I kind of like it. But I would need to see it though... that doesnt look like the rear of my 03 wrx waggy but he said it was for an imp. Anyone know what year this thing is?
My buddy has both 93 and 94 wagons and both have those sick jdm rear wings that I would almost dye for to put on my waggy. Anyone got any extra info on this wing would bee awesome. PM me if you know anything!

Actually those look kinda functional would have to examine the angle of those bumps , and yes airtabs would be great for a wagon .
| williaty | 05-20-2008 04:53 PM |
Actually, any kind of vortex generator is a BAD idea for the trailing edge of the roof of a wagon. With the wagon (or hatch) shape, you DO NOT want the air wrapping around the rear edge of the roof and flowing down the glass (exactly the opposite of a sedan shape). You want the air to separate once, cleanly from the roof line and get on with its business.

I got in to the east coast in like a week and a half. It came with about 6" of bubble wrap all the way around and some kraft paper wrapping. No box! Completely entact though by some miracle of god.

What is the point of a waist-spoiler/wing on a wagon (I have a wagon)? I know aerodynamics and if the airflow is seperated and not flowing smoothly (which it won't be at the apex of the rear end) there's no point. It can't get smooth enough airflow to do anything except add even more drag. The ideal place for a wing/spoiler would be up top of course where it's mounted normally.
As was said above, it's a very sharp turn and hard to keep airflow attached to the body as it slopes down the rear, a wing at the waist seems to do nothing due to this.

Nothing but looks. If there's any clean airflow on a waist spoiler, something is damned wrong.

i have been wanting to put something like that carbon fiber one together for a while, minus the vortex generator because i think it looks stupid. I dont think it would be terribly hard to fiberglass one and have it painted to match.
One thing that i cant really figure is how to mount it...anyone have anymore info about that one such as if it is actually for the impreza and how it is mounted?

Ha ha... mine came in wrapped the same way. Got it 3 weeks ago. How was the finish on top of the wing? Mine needs a little smoothing. Other than that, I'm waiting on rear aeroguards before I send it off to the paint shop

Oh yeah, here's the real deal: A GF8 STi that was parked down the street from my brothers place. You are entitled to you opinion. :D I can't decide on a top spoiler that I like. Any suggestions? The stock one is a little bland. I do like the Dolphin, although it's a little too much.

Did anyone who bought the ebay spoiler order it prepainted by the seller, or did you guys just have it painted yourselves? I'm wondering about the paint quality as well as what the additional $$ would beto order prepainted.

Yes it's universal. In Japan, a lot of cars with hatches that have no direct applications have been running these. J's Racing has been using them on their EK Civics.
I've recently seen several waist spoilers on ebay sold by seller 'racing_raven'. The pic of the spoiler on the auction page looks like the oem waist spoiler, but I emailed the seller and he said it was aftermarket. Has anyone purchased this item from the seller? If so, how does it look/fit??? I'd prefer to purchase an oem spoiler, it's it's way too expensive for just for vanity. It's hard to pass up this one for ~ $130.00 (buy it now $69.99 plus $59.99 S&H) if it's a good fit.
I have that same spoiler its really nice I got it from junkyardgage it was painted aspen white but I had it repainted because it had too much runnage in the clear coat alot cheaper than JDM and fits really well when you get it you need to make a template but no big deal it really finishes off the look of the wagon buy it :cool:
What is the point of a waist-spoiler/wing on a wagon (I have a wagon)? I know aerodynamics and if the airflow is seperated and not flowing smoothly (which it won't be at the apex of the rear end) there's no point. It can't get smooth enough airflow to do anything except add even more drag. The ideal place for a wing/spoiler would be up top of course where it's mounted normally.
As was said above, it's a very sharp turn and hard to keep airflow attached to the body as it slopes down the rear, a wing at the waist seems to do nothing due to this.
I'm no aero expert but I believe the mid spoiler does serve a purpose. It looks like the top spoiler actually directs airflow down the rear window. Looking at the top spoiler how it isn't solid but the middle is cutout to direct airflow downwards. It looks like a waist spoiler would then generate a little bit of downforce from the air thats flowing down the rear window. That's just my guess.

James, I believe you are correct. There is no way to keep laminar flow down over the top rear corner all the way to the bottom of the rear glass. The only way to do that would be to make a huge top spoiler to direct the flow downward instead of upward(stock). That would have the effect of creating drag and maybe a little lift. The back end of the wagon is one great big swirling low pressure area. I have an '06 Wagon and you can tell there is very little air flow actually moving down the rear glass by watching water on it. Even at pretty good highway speeds, my rear glass can stay wet with morning dew. If there was any real flow over the rear glass, it would clear the dew quickly or at least blow it around some. So, I doubt there is any significant flow hitting the mid-spoiler. Someone might be fond of the aesthetic, but, I don't think there will be any significant aerodynamic effect. Net effect might be a little drag.
Trueno, I expect the gap between in the top spoiler acts as a 'vent' of sorts to ease what would otherwise be an intense low pressure area just below it. As I said above, a wet rear glass shows very little flow down the face of the glass. Maybe a little in some situations, but, not enough to create any significant down force.
