2006 SCCA Solo Nationals thread part 15

Josh, that sounds AWESOME! Good luck!

I'll be super sad if we don't get to see you again though (since we had to miss Nationals this year)! :(

I'm sure I will be around. I doubt that you will never see me again. :D
OK, Scott, do I need to remind you that you can basically never compare times for T/W classes vs Th/F? Heck, comparing times for Heat 1 vs Heat 3 is downright sketchy. (Which is just one of many reasons I switched to STX open this year. I wanted to be able to compare my times straight-up, without wondering how the different conditions affected the diffs in times.)

That said.

Tell Mike I said: "Bring it, Superman. :D You beat me in my own car often enough, I'd be happy to have you try in a different car. :)"
Point taken..........no doubt....

However,I did a comparison between STS and STX tour results from 2005 IIRC and guess what..... STS beat STX in raw time in about 90% of the events.
Last year at the Atlanta Pro after Hoppe broke his car, he jumped in Haywards Civic, was .5 slower in 60' and made up not only the .5 but gained another .3 from his fastest time in his WRX.

Things that make you say Mmmmmmmmm....:alien:

Now....if I only had an LSD...... ;)
RS_Racer 10-03-2006 06:21 PM

Interesting breakdown of the stock classes and how many of each car per class... http://www.soloracerblog.com/2006/10/stock_class_par.html

Whats most surprising is the class with the most expensive cars (SS) had the most participants and the class with arguably the least expensive cars (HS) had the fewest particpants.
Chiketkd 10-03-2006 07:56 PM

Good luck Josh!
Chiketkd 10-03-2006 08:00 PM

While these are basically meaningless due to the varying conditions each day, figured I'd post it anyways...

Corey 10-04-2006 10:20 AM

I'd like to thank everybody who offered to lay on their backs under my car and change my clutch overnight when it became apparent that it wasn't going to hold completely for the entire week.

On the way to Pat's pig, with Billy and Jason in the car I put it in 4th gear and just watched the tach go up... with no accelleration. Within 5 minutes Billy was on the phone with Subaru reserving all the parts. I decided to forego the pleasure of watching 4-5 people freeze their butts off while changing a Subaru clutch in the dark... and it held good enough in 2nd to get me through the week. I finally got my trophy in my own car, runing 3rd fastest in class on the 2nd day, proving only to myself that the car and I could do it.

My car is on it's way back to stock. And a new clutch should be going in soon. My wife should get good use out of it in the next few years as a daily driver. I'll remember STS... but it was a little easier to forget as I eased into the boost this morning on my way to work....

Sure there is... you can get an MR with an SE appearance package.

I got an SE... lightest IX that still has ABS. It has the aluminum roof, etc from the MR but keeps the 5spd trans.

Does the IX still have double wish bones or is it the first Evo with McPherson struts?
wrx2.0 555 10-05-2006 01:06 PM

On car footage from Nats.

Mike King and myself (Scott) in the STS Civic.

I'm the one that spun the first run. Mikes the one that dnf'd his first run, etc. etc. In the overall sequence, Mike ran first, so his first run is the olderst vid in the list.

Not to take anything away from Steve and the awesome suspension I wish I could own, but don't forget about the custom Ohlins Tak / Leiber have been running on their ESP and BSP championship winning Evos as well. I think Jason can put you in touch with John Tak if your interested in finding out more about that setup and its cost.

Just drop me a PM.

Mako - Not sure which double-wishbone Evo you're referring to, but the VIII and IX are struts up from with a multilink rear. This actually makes it simpler to build coilovers for it and as a result the Evo suspension costs less to build than the STi suspension.

He did launch harder, running the tach up to about 5k. I launch around 3-4 and just modulate the clutch.
I dont think I'm loosing anything there as either way, like you said, "lot of wheelspin"...
I know I lose my time during the rest of the course.

More pictures from Thursday morning
I thought I should post this here as well as in Zzyzx's thread, in case anyone is interested. I made it out to HPT on Thursday morning (wanted to do the whole week, but those darn work commitments keep getting in the way) and got some pictures of a few STS entries.

I've put them in a Yahoo photo album: Solo2006 Nationals
