Hi im not really new to NASIOC forum but Im thinking about starting to solo in SCCA. I was wondering if at any point in the regional or national competions do win anything for a top placement in your class?
Look here:
http://www.scca.org/Solo/Index.asp?IdS=01C8DD-3A2BB60&x=050|080&~=
There are a few, but just for National Tour events and Pro Solo's.
Our local region gives a little plaque or a $5 coupon off of an entry fee.
Divisionals only gives plaques also. I think Mini USA pays at the divisional level, but that'd be it, I believe.
Not sure if I'm using the spelling of "plaque" correctly... :alien:
Chiketkd, my point was that unless something has changed recently, Mike King doesn't own a WRX (and hasn't in 2 years). You'd said "if he runs his WRX".
Gotcha. I didn't realize that Mike King was no longer competing in STX and had made the switch to STS.
You haven't seen Steven Rankins in the '06 STi. Don't get me wrong; I voted for Neary (on the SCCAForums poll, and when I did my picks for SportsCar), but it's not going to be easy for him.
Agreed.
Watching Rankins compete twice in '06 has been a 'moving' experience for me (far exceding the times I've seen George & Todd Bowland, Neary and even Sam Strano compete this season). It's almost like watching an artist in motion... The way he drives can't be taught at an Evolution School or learned from a book - it's pure talent. At some events Rankins is a little off, but at most, he's in rare form!
All of this being said, I do not wish to take anything away from Neary who's an equally talented driver in many regards. However, I personally feel Mike drives within the limits of his car for a greater % of a course, while Steve is at the ragged edge for much longer.
If the weather at HPT is dry on both days of STU competition, the result will be very close with the edge going to Neary. Should the weather turn nasty on one or both days, Rankins FTW!

I'll put one vote in here for Mr. Neary, although I've not seen Mr.Rankins drive this year either. I've been running against Mike all year and he's pounding me. I caught him once early this year in colder weather and coned away our 2nd event where I'd have caught him. I can't seem to shake my r-compound driving style in the STi. I had a few people ride with me and they were taken aback at my lack of use on the brakes. I don't know if I'm heading to Nats or not. I'd be more excited to go if I was certain I had a shot at a top 3 spot but I don't think my driving is up-to-par right now. I'm told now that we've got one of the best handling STi's there is...so I KNOW it's just my driving.

I'm coming into this one a little late, but I too will be there on Tuesday/Wednesday fighting the good fight in F-Stock. I know, another non-Subaru driver chiming in, but I will be rooting for my favorite local stock class Subaru husband and wife team in A-Stock.
Even though this will be my first trip out to Topeka, I'm really looking forward to it since it will be at a new facility. Hopefully the asphalt surface will be somewhat akin to what us northeastern drivers have to contend with, which may level out the game a little bit.
See y'all out there!

DBAR. I like that. My tire budget this season has liked it, too. :)
As to the previous question about me, yes, I'm driving with Jonathan in AS. I was terrible on that surface in the Spyder, plus this is my year to drive different stuff. So while I pretty much have to drive in CSP at the Finale (2nd and 3rd in CSP, 3rd and 4th in CS, 3rd in ASP, and 2nd in AS is my points situation), I figure I can drive the STi in the warmup and at Nationals for some fun. I hope it's cold enough Jonathan needs tire warming for two reasons. One, bad weather is very good for us, and two, we won't have to change tires between drivers. ;)

I don't know. I guess we'll all know when he registers. ;)
Dave Mac
I really hope you change your mind and go Dave. Yeah, you've been consistently 1 second off Neary for the last handful of events, but you're much closer to him than anyone else in the wdcr. Besides, HPT is a completely different venue than FEDEX...

McDougal, you WILL go to Nationals or I'll stop letting you get so close to my times at the local events  Seriously though, anything can happen to shake up the standings; people screw up all their runs one day or both (trust me, I know) and you are pretty consistent. I think you'd definitely trophy if you went. Just my $.02.
Mike
edit: fixed weird wording.

This is Jay (James) from AZ. I'll be in an 05 STI in STU as #90. This will be my 1st time at Topeka and also looking forward to the competition and putting faces with names. Even though coming from sunny AZ, shall I "Pray for Rain"?

With like 40 other STi's in STU, I doubt it matters too much for you if it rains. Now for me in AS, yeah, pray for rain. :)

Cool ... more STU entries then STX. Just as I thought would eventually happen. If you're going to get a performance Subaru now, it's going to be an STI ... so naturally ...

Interesting that Rankins and Hayter are both driving '06's ... I don't think the others have a chance.

With the WRX being a 2.5 now, isn't it only natural that STU would get bigger? That and with the WRXs starting to show their age mechanically with things breaking....
I'm Nick, first year for me (and first National level event ever). I'll be in my 89 Si #88 in STS. I'll be looking forward to learning as much as possible, ie if you see me, point me in the right direction because I'm clearly lost :)
I'll bring the whiskey
Justin (crystalhelix) will be there in #99 BSP. He's on vacation so I figured I'd help him out.
I'm Justin, done 2 national tours (one last year, one this), first time at Nationals this year:banana: . I'll be driving the #99 BSP Silver STi from SpryRacing.com also sponsored by --sponsor whore:lol: --
Agile Automotive Performance/Namsco Plastics Inc./Langston Subaru/Spun-Autosports.com/6gunRacing.com/RacePA.com/XTPerformance.com
I'll not be drinking the whiskey but I am shooting for 7th or better in BSP, so come find me and say hi. Broke my first axle this weekend so hopefully I can get the car running again before this weekend.
I am shooting for 7th or better in BSP
I agree with Nate. Particularly for your first Nationals, leave your expectations at home. I think all of us have had Nationals that we put too much pressure on ourselves and ended up miserable for it. Don't do that to yourself. Come to have fun. Not sure what you meant KC. Are you saying that 2.5 WRX's are going start showing up in STU? Creating Mega STU run groups. Can you say Canon Fodder ... :o
