Damn, that sucks. I know in this day and age, loyalty is hard to come by, but Galli was willing to stick with Mitsubishi, and Mitsubishi bailed.

Wow. that so retarded. why would mitsubishi run this entire year with a '06 spec car and then pull the plug? that and Gigi was supposed to be thier #1 driver for 2006. who does that leave? Subaru/Ford for the manufactures? i feel they're trying to kill the sport on purpose.
If the rally is not on TV there is no point for them to sponsor anyone.
I bought mine entirely because of rally. I would not have even considered a Subaru otherwise
You really think if Speed dropped all WRC coverage Subaru would pull all its money out of US rally ? I don't see the two things as that connected.
Your purchase aside I still doubt that a survey of new US Subaru owners would show that Subaru's rally participation factored into their purchasing decission in any meaningful way.
I bought a 05 STI and I decided to check it our after reading a few magazine reviews. I wouldn't have bothered before even though I'm a fan of the team. It's just I'm pretty clear on a WRC car having as much to do with the car I can buy down the street as Bud Light has with a pint of Boddington's.
At least in Northern California WRX/STI buyers tend to be rich spoiled kids, tuner crowd types, or guys just really into cars. Some may have heard of rally. I doubt you would find a single one that would say they bought it because of the WRC. Sometimes you can spot those guys though. They're the guys with the fake roof vent glued to the top of their car and their last name on the back window sitting in the BK drive thru line.

Oh and Stphane Prevot just became Sarrazin's co-driver for next year. I'm glad he was able to get another gig. He's the co-driver that walked out on Duval last year for those that don't remember. I was worried he'd get blacklisted for that even though he had every right to.

No surprise, though. Pivato has made a career of sitting with young French guns, but doesn't have a lot of WRC experience. I'm sure that team management insisted quite forcefully on Denis. So Stephane did that for a year, and based on his results, is now allowed to pick someone else. Seen it a million times before...
You really think if Speed dropped all WRC coverage Subaru would pull all its money out of US rally ?
I did not say that now did I? If Speed Dropped WRC there would still be US rally on TV, if that goes away too, so does Subaru. The money to pay for airing the WRC show, and subsequent advertising, likely comes from another department than the US Rally team. I believe the money may even come from Japan. All I know is that inside sources (two different people) told me that Subaru is buying the airtime for the WRC show and when speed threatened to stop airing it Subaru said they would pull the rest of their advertising too.
The most important thing for a major sponsor is TV time, it is the best way to achieve marketing impressions and corporate branding. No TV, no big sponsorship and that is why Sanctioning bodies of motorsports concentrate on getting a TV show for their series above all else if they want corporate money.

Go to a rally sometime and note how many Subarus are on the side of the road
Whether it influenced their purchase or they became a rally fan because of their purchase does not matter, the point of motorsports is to create brand loyalty and enthusiasm

Considering I said it three times, it appears I am talking about Speeds coverage of the WRC too
Let's try it again for you, I am sure Subaru sees more benefit to paying for the WRC coverage (i.e. more airtime equals more time their product is in front of peoples eyes) than taking that extra money and putting it into the US rally program, which won't buy them any more airtime than they are already getting with the money they are currently spending, which isn't much

Debating doesn't equal I'm right and you're wrong. You have a very heavy handed way of dealing with anyone on this forum that doesn't agree with you. If they mention RA in anyway then doubly so. You seem a bit blinded by what you're tied to.
Look, I think you do a great job at taking some great pictures. That doesn't make you an expert on rally. What people tell you while you're taking their picture doesn't equal news or fact. It is probably far from both.

No, you look, I don't care what you think of my photos and it has nothing to do with anything so stop bringing it up! I have been to nearly 85 rallies in 7 years as a photographer, navigator, and a worker, I do not claim to be an expert, but I think that I am qualified as somewhat knowledgeable based on experience (as opposed to just regurgitating press releases I have read on the internet.)
I am friends with many of the competitors, crews, organizers, tv crews ( I used to work on the US TV show) and people from both sanctioning bodies. We all regularly have in-depth discussions both in person and over the phone, about the sport and what is going on. If you don't consider that kind of information as news or fact, I don't know what to tell you.
And why should I take anything you say as "news or fact"?

allright guys, lets agree that neither of you are experts on insider tips from WRC ( I don't care who you talked to in Mexico or Catalunya), (he gets drunk sometimes, alledgely< I have no personal knowledge of this, my comments are satirical in nature only>).
But how is WRC going to look with a Sabaru and Ford team, along side a heavily funded Citreon/ Loeb ( I agree, w/ Solberg in his assement that SebLo's "privateer" effort is anything but).
Now this discourse is not about where Subaru should spend its advert. monies, but rather what you think about the WRC landscape for 2006.
So, lets get back on topic.
For me, I just want to see some competitive racing, not guys retiring all over the place, no more mistakes like Skoda had, not doing a proper service and forcing the retiring of C Mc, when he was having a brilliant rally. I just want good racing. Not Total domination.

well all i know is that with that current news about basically all the manufactures bailing in the WRC... im not as excited for the 2006 season. i guess its kind of alright tho. i would like to see a close battle all season long with petter/markus going on. im not sure loeb will be doing too well with a privateer team. it seems that all the privateer teams never do well because all the manufacture teams have more tech. into their races. more tire selections? more peolpe on the track to deliver info to the team, all around they're just down graded. am i wrong?

I can guarantee that Kronos won't be your average privateer team next year. With 6 manufacturer teams on the grid, next year isn't looking nearly as bad as it was a few weeks ago.
For those that don't know, we'll have Subaru and Ford, offical works teams. Then privateer teams registered for manufacturer points are Kronos Citroen, OMV Peugeot-Norway, Red Bull Skoda and another M-Sport Ford team (I forget the title sponsor).

I don't think it has been posted in this thread, but the Kronos-Citroen team has applied for manufacturer status, and has been approved by the FIA. So it's going to be Subaru v. Ford v. Kronos-Citroen for the manufacturer's title.

Actually, it'll be Subaru v. Ford v. Kronos Citroen v. Red Bull Skoda v. OMV Peugeot Norway v. M-Sport Ford (B-team).
Though, as per the Manufacturer 2 rules, they probably won't run all 16 events and therefore be somewhat out of contention for the Manufacturers title. Kronos is the only privateer team to commit to all 16 rounds, and there is no doubt they'll be in the running for the manufacturer title.

Stohl is slated to run all 16 rounds as well.

While I'll admit that the Ford vs. Subaru manuf. title race seems boring, it will be tough to be more boring than this past season of all Citreon. I think Loeb could still be in the mix depending on how the old car takes to new diff. rules. I wouldn't mind seeing more privateers running but without manuf. involvement there'd be less types of cars to run, I guess. Don't have the stats in front of me, but privateers used to regularly beat the factory teams in 70's and 80's. So the sport is not gonna be ruined by the manuf. pulling out, just different and hopefully better.

It looks like Mitsubishi will be back with a non-factory team...
according to German press Gigi Galli has teamed with "RalliArt Italy" and will be at Monte, and will be doing most of the events
- For Sweden Rovanpera's joining him
Will their use of passive diff's last year help these guys at all this season?
