Scooby South 11-06-2006 12:32 PM

2007 SCCA Tour/Pro Schedule
Anyone "in the know" know what its going to be...looking forward to hitting as many of these as possible...

oh...and It looks as if South Ga might be getting a SCCA Tour Event and a possibly a Pro Event at the Valdosta Site that the Dixie Region owns...Its about 85% a done deal from what I understand..its also going to be considered a SE Divisional...probably going to be in late Feb or early March...I hope that all of you consider this and plan to go...as its a great time...and experience some of the fastest folks out there......if your near the SE..

I talked to Howard at the Midiv Convention this past weekend and the Nationals and Prosolo finale date has not yet been set in stone. I guess as soon as it's set. I guess the rest will come. I lobbied to see if they can make it early Sept insted of late like it was this year.

One could only hope to make next year's plans this early. Either way it'll be my first year of attending National events (aside from my half-decent attempt at the national championships in STS this year).

I'm pretty sure they will do Peru, IN again and I heard rumors of Toledo, OH. If so, that's two I'll be attending. I'll be sure to see and meet some of you there.

I hope Peru is still on the list but wouldn't be too surprised if it gets cut out now that people don't go there to get pavement like nationals. That lot tends to be a car breaker, at least for us it does, and there is no home region to run the events which makes an already difficult to put on event even more difficult.

Unless several of you get busy and buy several hundred Jeeps a piece I think the airport in Toledo is still a long shot. Diamler-Chrysler could just stop building product they can't sell but that would make sense. Last I heard they were finally actually using the pavement at the airport for storage even though they didn't actually use it most of the year.

It was a hike but I sure hope they do Walnut Ridge again, I've never been to an event that had better support from the locals than that one did. Like usual Jen and I will almost certainly travel up to 15 hours each way for a Pro but may not bother to go 5 hours for a Tour. It would be awfully handy to start making plans for next year.
Impala SS AutoXer 11-06-2006 05:40 PM

Unfortunately, unless something happens and Castle AFB can assure us site access we will likely NOT have an SFR-Hosted Tour and Pro at Atwater in 2007 :(

Castle is in the process of going from General Aviation back to Commercial, and unfortunately at this time can't guarantee any real access more than 30 days or so out.

Sucks too, as it was probably one of the best (if not THE best) autocross sites in the entire country. Huge SMOOTH lot of some of the grippiest concrete around...
steverife 11-06-2006 07:54 PM

Good news about Valdosta. The divisional last year was a fun trip. Hopefully, I'll have a car ready by then.

With that said, I agree with Karen. The SEDiv autocross series will never be what it could be if they are pulling **** like that.

edit: last year = beginning of this year

DC anyone?
Scooby South 11-07-2006 07:45 AM

See thats the plan....there are plenty of us on our local committee's to know an approximate date of purposed schedule...that way we band together and put it together before the official one is out..

Certainly not in that order... Reno needs to be May or later to guarantee that folks can get there and not have snow. My parents live close to Reno and they have seen snow in every month except August.

Also, probably will be a Packwood event.

yep. no prosolo for me next year.
sciolist 11-08-2006 09:30 PM

...also, I thought SFR was working on an alternate site for the Atwater Pro and Tour. Was definitely hoping to hit those.
adhowe70 11-08-2006 09:33 PM
Why would there not be both a Packwood Pro and NT?
There are a couple reasons why an event wouldn't happen. Or more appropriately, there are a couple things that need to happen to make these events happen. NWR would need to step up and host the event again (likely for both Tour and Pro) and National office would have to want to have the events (likely for Tour, not so much for Pro.)

Looks like ProSolo is in for a standing 8 count this year. I predict good turnout at events, but poor "series" attendance. Read: lots of people will run the one event closest to them, not many will make an effort to attend...

SFR has a site problem... Atwater was their best site by a TON. It sounds like Stead (Reno) is being considered as an alterante, but SFR folks would need to step up to make that happen. The site is worth, but Reno Region is weak on people to make it happen (small region).
steverife 11-08-2006 09:51 PM

What happened to moving it back to the more traditional date?

I thought about tryin' to make it to the Finale next year. Taking the last 7 days of the month off is going to be tough.

Well... if San Diego and a Packwood Tour are it for the West Coast, that leaves us with purdy slim pickin's.

Yep. We also have one other site we are looking at, but can't comment publicly on it yet until we know more. Our "normal" sites in the Bay Area and nearby (Candlestick, GGF, Oakland Coliseum, Marina, Stockton) all wouldn't work for various reasons.

Also, Atwater isn't 100% out yet. But I wouldn't bet on it as of now :(
Draken 11-08-2006 10:15 PM

Impala:

I'm not in the know when it comes to the Norcal sites, but I'm curious about a couple of the old air bases in Sac area. Mathers and McClellan. Mathers used to be a site for autocross, and has some areas on the extreme eastern side of the site, including a bizzare old blimp docking station area. McClellan has some huge parking lot areas that are unused. In particular a large rectangular lot (500'x800') with access from side streets, with a second lot (500'x300') just north of it that could work for pits/gridding.

Maybe a false lead, but you never know?

Chris H.
Chico, CA
Impala SS AutoXer 11-09-2006 01:13 AM

After 9/11, both Mather and McClellan became quite difficult to get for security reasons. Something about not wanting a ton of cars across a lot that DOESN'T have a fence between it and an active military and commercial runway. Sac Chapter of SFR has only run there about once/year since, when they put on a charity autocross. That is why their entire series has been down at Stockton lately.

Unfortunately, Stockton lot is quite small and is, ummm, how to put this politically correctly, in an "economically disadvantaged" part of town ;) . As in, I would be wary of leaving stuff out there DURING an event, let alone overnight.

As for Bay Area, issues are :

Marina : too small, pushing it to paddock for 150 cars and hold the event, still an active airport, a nd "challenging" to work with the folks who run it
Oakland : well, it's IN Oakland...see Stockton issue, 'nuff said ;)
Candlestick : Ever see a car do a WRC-type jump at an autocross??? I have :D . Guess that happens when a lot is built on landfill in an earthquake liquifaction zone. Also not in the best part of town, seems ok during the day but wouldn't wanna park there overnight with a race car rig
GGF : borderline too small, and slippery enough to make HPT look, ummm, "grippy", and no starts till 10AM due to adjacent horse track
Scooby South 11-09-2006 08:06 AM

Well...me and the wife came to a understanding...;)....I get to race....she gets a new home/office...seems fair...anyways...I, too, am trying to get the schedule as early as possible...so I can make my effort in BSP a worthy one...No way should an EVO be on top..so, it my personal vandetta to take the top spot AWAY from them...;)..

Bill

Agreed. Late September will mean yet another year of having temps in the low 40's for the early run groups!
crystalhelix 11-10-2006 02:56 PM

54F and 52F at 8am for the T/W groups this according to the temp gauge on the STi cluster.....it sucked...not to mention there was mist on my windows..

Bill

That would work Bill except for the steady 15mph wind that cools them right back down after your run. You need tire covers if you are in one of the first two maybe 3 heats to keep the tires from cooling down. Free info ;) But I am already getting psyched for this upcoming season. Now that I have a little more national experience I look forward to those events way more than local races! Hope to meet more of our fellow motorsports people in person next year!

I can DEFINATELY without one shadow of a doubt...say there will be NO SOLO or PRO in South Fla....Having raced this past weekend at the FT. Well, that's all well and good, but usually ProSolos are 2 30-40 second courses (some even as low as 20-25 seconds), with about 200 competitors.

So, who was misinformed about what ProSolo is?
