***** UPDATE *******
Just ordered these to replace the projector from the ebay unit.. Hella 90mm modules. http://www.rallylights.com/hella/90mm_modules.asp
I also have my 6K HID kit that will be going into the hella modules. I know that it isn't the "best" setup, but will definately be a step up from what I have.
Once it gets warmer I will update this thread with the installation/retrofit for these in my modded headlights

Well the Hella modules are here, but it is way too cold to do any work on the headlights.
I'm playing with the idea of adding the hella module above the other two modules that are in there. Hooking up the hella lights as my DRL's and low beams, and then adding an HID kit to the ebay projectors and hook them into my fog harnesses :D

can you take some measurements of the ones in the ebay lights for me? Im thinking about taking on a similar project and was wondering how much modification was needed to get the Hella modules into the Ebay housings.

good deal. I am actually in the process of reto'in my jdm's with the tsx's. To my surprise, everything it going really well. It's alot of grinding, fitting, grinding, fitting...etc.

i'd also like to know. the rallylights.com measurements put them about 3/16 of an inch too wide for the barrels but the openings in the headlight are big enough... they won't bolt in though for sure according to those measurements.
i'd like to know what brcewane's experience is.

yeah I doubt the mounting holes would be the same but I dont really think thats such a big deal since you can drill new holes to mount them either in the module or the capsule, I was more worried about if the module would fit through the hole in the housing.

if i cared about what people thought about me, the extra work and tons of talent that you put in make it way worth it. i can't really describe how ugly my lights are, i'll have to get a picture.

i just dremeled off the surrounds so only the clear stuff was left, then used sealant to put it on the lights.
it's withstood about 300 miles of highway travel so far so i think it's an okay way of putting it on.

i think i'll trim up the sealant and then paint a black boarder like brcewane did, that seems to be the best idea.
of course, that will be after i put in the H7's, which will make it better looking too.

i see what you mean
definatly clean it up and paint a black border also i would see about a rubber surround to try and fill the gaps between the headlight and body plus it might help with sealing the clear cover

geoff- thanks but i really don't care about the color, especially if i paint over the lens. it's good thinking though and i'd suggest it to others... i just made these as my backup set.
i also remember reading that nissan parts departments carry a headlight sealant that's black... who knows is that's true or still true.

be safe and sound, off the car for certain occasions and stretches of time.
plus, with the 06 h7's i'll have a LHD pattern. my jdms were a huge score, i don't want to get scored on- so ugly, crappy looking lights are a-hokay with me, even if nasioc disapproves.
so... thanks for the comments but- just let my case be a lesson-
be awesome like tim and have leet skills if you want it to perform AND look good.
danny, you should go for it man. your car would have reach critical sickness levels with some projector flava.

I must say that this has been the most informative read ever. This dwarfs everything that I read college even. It is very impressive to see that kind of work done. I only wish I had the time to put into a project like that.

<under breath> where did you go to college?
no seriously...
so the plan with the wrx projectors is to
1 - cut the barrel down to a few inches, the projector is too large for it but it will need to come out a few inches so i can do
2 - jb weld T brackets onto the outside sides of the barrel. i'm going to use three.
3 - (alredy did this step) fabricate with aluminum and a dremel little mounting brackets on the projector so that i can use large, forward facing screws to secure the projector and
4 - fit and aim the projectors in their brackets so that the T brackets hold it. optional but strongly recommended, also fab up some shrouds so the lights look good and don't leak light out in places they shouldn't.
5 - somehow put a big abs plastic box around the whole thing so that you can seal the back of the light. 06 h7 projector optics get hot and you don't want them getting dirty or making fires.
i still haven't figured out this step.
the less weight all the hardware is, the better- the plastic housings aren't that strong. they actually work great for the lightweight optics they come with, but the substantially nicer wrx optics weigh more to begin with... so jbweld and strong **** will be a big plus.
aaand aside from that just dremel the crap out of some (preferrably busted or otherwise useless) stock light covers. getting it as even as possible makes it easier to seal them up.

I started to pull my headlights apart today... after looking at the shape of the Hella modules and their mounting plates.. It looks like I am going to have quite a bit of fabrication ahead of me
I'll post up the "phase 2" of these lights as I get some progress.
Looks like I will be loosing the turn signals from the lights and just tapping into the turn signals that I have on my front bumper and front fenders.

cool. i have faith in you, you'll figure out the housing.
my L bracket supports are JB welding themselves to what's left of the inner tunnels as we speak. the h7 wrx projectors are sweetness. and i moved the fog lights to the air dam and wired them up so i'll have fogs, driving, hi and low. all wired perfectly.
but yeah, the 90mm don't just mount up, they're a hair too big for the tunnels.
what's the huge challenge for me is going to be making a rear housing to cover the wrx projectors. your solution is not really workable for me because i threw out the oem rear housing.

i have no clue how i'm going to shield this projector off. i'm thinking pvc but i need a 5" tube and it's not going to be easy.
i think for added strength i may use a hose clamp around the brackets to keep strain off the JB weld:lol:
