Another option, posted on sccaforums.com:
The Homestead Suites Hotel has offered the SCCA, a negotiated rate for the ProSolo weekend. The rate is only $43.99/night plus tax.

All rooms are suites with fully equipped kitchen. You can select from a suite with a queen bed or with two double beds. The parking is secure and there is hired security every evening from 10 PM - 4 AM. All other standard amenities include free loocal calls, iron and ironing board, showtime movie channel, etc. No continental breakfast but many restaurants are within walking distance. Oh and for a small fee, they accept small pets (pet fee might be negotiable if you ask).

The hotel is off of I-85 about 20 minutes away from the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds.

Ask for Claudia Reyes, Manager and let her know you would like the SCCA rate of $43.99/night plus tax. Hotel phone# 770-449-9966 or 770-449-5003.

Call the number for the Hilton Garden Inn and ask for Laura. She's the one who set it up. I have a copy of the contract confirming the rate, so you probably just got some idiot at the front desk who doesn't know how to work the computer system where the discount has been setup.

I'd be shocked if the Hilton didn't have any doubles left. We have a pretty big block reserved, so unless most of the SCCA rooms have been booked at this point then please see above for instructions.

You are missing the point completely.

I CALLED THEM BOTH. The Hilton has no two bed rooms left in the SCCA block, the Hampton has no block for SCCA.

I don't need to call Laura, the desk worker knew just fine. You need to call the HAMPTON and find out what's going on. The HILTON is doing just fine.
AUTOwrXER 01-26-2004 01:13 PM

Simmer.

The Hampton is owned by the Hilton management. Laura does group sales for both. I'm calling her now...

Just left her voicemail to straighten this out.

I am the OTHER guy from Louisville.

The car is back together, new clutch assembly, tranny was/is fine.

Im registered as #44 SM, got a room at the Hampton for the AAA rate, which is less than the Govt. Employee/Military rate, and thats kinda disheartening.

I probably will be only able to make it to the Atlanta event and Peru event as i dont have the vacation at owrk to be able to travel that much.

Just reserved at Hampton Sugarloaf too.

Not much in the way of cheap in the area....

Alright I have a noob question.

Are prosolo safety requirements any stricter than normal regional auto-x? In other words can I just show up with my car and a helmet and compete?

I tried seraching scca.org and I didn't find anything.

Thanks

As far as car requirements, nope... it's still an auto-x, and scca safety requirement apply... you will get teched.

But you need to pre-register for the event, which takes place on a Saturday and Sunday. :)

Looks like it's up to 177 entries, will likely fill up by next weekend. Will be the largest SM class I've raced in anywhere, 15 cars, and some very good drivers in the class. My car is tuned and somewhat ready to go, although the suspension will be lacking for this event. I think I've found a good source for race gas, and I'll be bringing some "additives" with me. :)

Is race gas legal in STX?

No. Pump gas only, (not from a race track) no additives (like octane booster).

Ie: Stock rules.

I did some more research and apparently 100 octane fuel is legal in all classes, as it can be pumped directly into your car at a gas station. (There are quite a few gas stations around with 100 octane gas). However 104 is not legal as I believe the highest octane fuel you can pump into your own car (and not a container) is 100. I found a website where they actually offered fuel services at the Houston national tour event, I don't know if it was last year or not. It goes without saying, you could get a huge increase in power by using 100 octane over 93 octane on a turbo car.

The webpage may have been old, I don't know if the current rules are different or not.
Patrick L 02-03-2004 04:36 PM

we have a few stations here that sell 101 at the pump.
dwx 02-03-2004 05:10 PM

I guess I should clarify "race gas". I meant any gas equal or above 100 octane, not leaded gas specifically. In SM apparently I could run alcohol or propane if I wanted to, but you'd need an awfully big fuel cell at a ProSolo to run that.
KC 02-03-2004 06:09 PM

If they sell it at the pump locally, at a public gas station, it's legal.
Warp3 02-03-2004 07:33 PM

Two questions about hotels:

1) Has there been a resolution to the "Hampton has no idea who SCCA is" issue? I just checked the standard rates for the Hampton (on hamptoninn.com) and they are WAY more than the "SCCA" rates posted in this thread.

2) Anyone in the Atlanta/Gwinnett area familiar with the local Microtel Inns? I've had really good luck with Microtel on business-related trips and the Atlanta area ones seem to be asking just over half what Hampton Inn wants per night. (The ones I'm looking at in particular are the Lawrenceville one on Hwy 316 and the Norcross one just off I-85.)

I just checked Moutons.org, and there is nothing in the stock category that deals with what kind of fuel you can run. Is it somewhere else in the rulebook? I've openly run 98 octane homebrew, and a fellow competitor (in STX, mind you) was running Torco 104 against me. Nobody said a word.

That aside, anybody know of any stations in the Atlanta area that have 100+? It would sure be handy to not have to drive 6 hours with a ten gallon bomb in my trunk (above what's in the fuel tank, of course).

Not sure which one is closest to Atlanta, but here is a list of Sunoco stations that have it: http://www.racegas.com/gt100locals/. They list 7 stations for Georgia, some of them sound like they should be in the Atlanta area (e. g. "Atlanta Dragway").
ascott 02-04-2004 10:14 AM

The closest is Road Atlanta, 34 miles
Road Atlanta Raceway
5300 Winder Highway
Braselton, GA 30517
(770) 967-6143

A mile further, but in a different direction:
Mansfield Oil Company
1025 Parkway S.W.
Gainesville, GA 30501
(770) 532-7571

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?do=rev&1g=fuI5rPg4l%2f8%3d&1y=US&2a=2405%20Sugarloaf%20Pkwy&1z=30501&mo=ma&2s=GA&2c=Lawrenceville&1l=1mNc98WwrHQ%3d&1ex=1&cl=EN&2ex=1&1n=HALL%20COUNTY&src=maps&2g=dAeWcqxHW5A%3d&did=1075907427&1a=%5b700%2d799%5d%20Parkway%20Dr&un=m&2y=US&2z=30045%2d9340&1s=GA&1c=Gainesville&2l=BsNMDDp0u%2fc%3d&go=1&ct=NA

Any Atlanta people familiar with these? I assume the Road Atlanta one is at the track, are they open Friday Afternoons/Evenings? Is the Mansfield Oil Company a depot?
trhoppe 02-04-2004 10:24 AM

If an STX competitor was running 104, he was illegal :)

Just because someone did something, doesn't mean its legal. An STX competitor last year ran w/o fog lights and roof rails at nationals. It was illegal, but because he finished low, no one protested him......

-Tom
dwx 02-04-2004 10:27 AM

I posted this in the SE forum a few days ago and there were a few responses. One person mentioned the location of a station that sells 100 off of exit 16 on 985, which would put it around 25 miles from the site.
