carbon fiber roof part 1

ColesSTi 06-14-2006 10:34 PM

carbon fiber roof
Pictures are up now of my new roof ! "I was wondering about the existence of a carbon fiber roof on an IMPREZA MY 05 is there such a thing?"
ChrisM623 06-14-2006 11:06 PM

Never heard of one but I wouldn't want to get caught in a hail storm.
ColesSTi 06-14-2006 11:23 PM

true would hold up well in one wouldnt dent
Blue Rabbit 02 06-14-2006 11:47 PM

you couldnt have a a cf roof, but you could have a cf-laid roof (as in covered with cf).

The roof is a part of the unibody construction of the car i believe, and is too critical to the car's strength and rigidity, thus could not be replaced with carbon fiber.
living4surf 06-14-2006 11:59 PM

there are several people that have covered their roof with CF but it isnt going to be lighter
STi-JDM 06-15-2006 12:05 AM

^^^ +1
ChrisM623 06-15-2006 12:06 AM

I would imagine it wouldn't be much lighter, just like a C/F hood doesn't drop any weight compared to our stock ones?
STi-JDM 06-15-2006 12:14 AM

^^^ because our stock hoods are made of aluminium... try change your trunk to CF one... :)
David Medina 06-15-2006 01:03 AM
I would imagine it wouldn't be much lighter, just like a C/F hood doesn't drop any weight compared to our stock ones?
no way, i recently bought a cf hood and i swear its at least 10lbs lighter. just swapping the hoods you could tell easily.
[emailprotected] 06-15-2006 01:06 AM

you can save 13 pounds with a carbon roof. we did it on an older RS a few years back for a customer. would i do it for a street car? no. for an all out race car. possibly. FWIW we left about two inches around the perimeter of the roofline for bonding, but remember this had a full cage so the body structure did not matter as much.

YMMV

WRKX 06-15-2006 01:43 AM

well you could get a carbon fiber roof cap...

Agentorangemen 06-15-2006 01:56 AM

The roof skin is not a structural part of the car. I don't remember the exact model, but a JDM Spec C has an aluminum roof. Search and you may find the feasibility of changing the roof material.

InfamousDX 06-15-2006 09:27 AM

4Play has one... all wrapped up. It's sick.
WRXDriftR 06-15-2006 09:44 AM

thats one thing i would enjoy wasting money on!
especially cuz my roof has some weird white scratches on it by the sunroof from the previous owner :furious:
jjameson 06-15-2006 10:19 AM

From what I can decipher its 44,100 Yen or ~$385 US. I think its GD*, ie fits GDA/B/etc

They have some cool stuff on that site. If I could only decipher more. Bablefish doesn't seem to like that site much and can't translate too much of it. Has anyone ever dealt with them? Does anyone have more info on L'aunsport?
ColesSTi 06-15-2006 11:55 AM

yes that is nice aluminum sounds good too as for the carbon, wow
ColesSTi 06-15-2006 04:39 PM

I called subaru in reference to have a price on a new roof with crossbars the price is $365 un painted I think carbon is the way to go
Av3ng3d WRX 06-15-2006 05:12 PM

can anyfind find a site that shows it in ummm english lol not to ba a dick but id like to invest in a product like this, im about to have my roof painted black to flow with a cf hood and trunk but for almost the same cost i can get a cf roof!!!! anyone have more pics of this perferably on an 02-03 wrx?????? wrb is possible :D
0BlueSTi4 06-15-2006 05:44 PM

New EVOs have aluminum roof as well as the hood. I hope subaru starts putting in more aluminum in their cars.
Av3ng3d WRX 06-15-2006 05:54 PM

have u seen what happens to an aluminum roof during a roll-over......go step on a pepsi can and volla there ya go! I would stick with what subaru's engineers put there for a reason...imo
0BlueSTi4 06-15-2006 06:50 PM

You cant really compare an aluminum can, thickness of which is less than 1mm, to a well built aluminum room probably a couple millimiters thick using aircraft grade materials. Also, in a rollover what matters most are the roof supports not the roof itself if those supports crumple it doesnt matter what roof you have.

02SilverRex 06-16-2006 09:21 AM

ok lets get back on track. no more can talk. lets talk about getting this roof over here. does anyone know were to buy this from or if anyone is a importer of this.
dangerousatom 06-16-2006 09:30 AM

I would be in on a group buy for sure!.....if anyone ever figures out how or who can get them over here.....CF above your head is the shizzz!
02SilverRex 06-16-2006 09:53 AM

+1 for me on thegroup buy. i have been emailing a couple importers yesterday and today to see if anyone can work with launsport and get some of these over here. if soemone can find a place that can get the launsport wide body kit i am sure they can get teh roof cap. we need everyone interestd to start emailing importers so that they can see there is an interest.
o2sys 06-16-2006 04:39 PM

that CF roof cap is awesome for the ultimate bling! that plus a CF hood and trunk = sex!
dibblejr 06-16-2006 04:49 PM

This link is for the Spec C Roof vent. The CF Roof was a custom thing that one of thier customers did. They are not selling it. There is no official CF Roof for sale anywhere.
9vapors 06-17-2006 03:20 PM

^^^Not true, L'aunsport sells the carbon roof shell.

sheepdog 06-17-2006 09:52 PM

do they make one for the gc8??? thats bad ass.

I don't even care that its lighter. a CF roof would just be uber sexy. Plus I'm going to have a cage soon so rigidity won't be as much of an issue.
tw1zt1d 06-17-2006 10:17 PM

someone find out to translate...I want that front spoiler for my bugeye!
jmanrex 06-18-2006 07:11 AM

it's just a shell that goes overtop your existing roof--it is not the actual roof

think of it as a condom for your roof--it just fits overtop for protection........i mean decoration :D
jmanrex 06-18-2006 07:16 AM

guys all you have to do to see the other products==in english is go to the web page that was supplied earlier in the thread and when that page loads--look at the top of the page there is a box that says "top" click on that and that will take you to the homepage and then on the lower lefthand side there is a link that says english version--click on that and you are home free
sheepdog 06-18-2006 07:23 AM

ohh fancy
STi-JDM 06-18-2006 12:51 PM

wow... the roof is not that expensive actually... wonder bout the shipping tho... :(
Av3ng3d WRX 06-18-2006 02:15 PM

whats 42,000 yen in us$$$$$$ ?
Daishi00 06-18-2006 02:39 PM

Roughly 420 bucks.
Daishi00 06-18-2006 02:45 PM

Correction...$365.00 Exchange rate changed for the better for once.
Av3ng3d WRX 06-18-2006 03:03 PM

$365 for the roof hmmmmmm my buddy works with carbon fiber I wonder how hard it would be to make a panel.......
DubyaSTi 06-18-2006 07:31 PM

That is bad ass. I would love to do that to my car, but then I'd have to get a CF lip, hood, trunk, and rear diffuser...and that sounds kind of expensive.
4Play 06-18-2006 09:52 PM

do you have anymore pics of the roof?? :D and how much did you pay for this if you don't mind me asking... thank you
InfamousDX 06-19-2006 10:08 AM

i think he paid in the 4 digits
4Play 06-19-2006 10:55 AM

my whole project was in the 4 digits but If I am not mistaken the guy ussually asks around a grand to do just a roof. But then again that was his price 2 years ago. As far as doing the whole top half apparently that was a major pain in the ass and he said he will never do that again. I guess thats originalllity points for me lol. Im gonna go get the contact info and post it right up thanks guys
NewShockerGuy 07-01-2006 04:25 AM

ok i emailed L'aunsport and they said that they can ship to the us no problem, they do it all the time. they can send any of the parts on their site. i am waiting on a shipping quote from them for the roof cap. once i get it i will post up and let you guys know. all you have to do once you are on the english page is click the link that says international order page. i will paste the email so you dont have to go read all the crap on their page.

Thank you so much for your interest in L'aunsport WRC custom replica wide body parts!

In order to get you a proper quotation for this part, we would need a full address of where you would like the item shipped. To answer your question regarding hole for the roof vent on the carbon roof shell for the 2002 wrx, you can request either with or without the vent hole. We are very happy to hear that many people would be interested in the L'aunsport WRC replica parts. We can assure you that the product will get to you without fail, we have shipped to many locations in North America. One thing you should be prepared for however, is that the cost of shipping is quite high due to the volume size of most body parts but you can decide for yourself upon receiving a quotation.

We would like to ask that you read through our terms for International ordering below so as to avoid any misunderstanding or inconveniences for you, the customer.

Dragicon 07-10-2006 06:53 PM

^^^^ What area of NA are you from?... just curious because 420 bucks for a cf roof shell is great... curious about the shipping.
M.R.blue 07-11-2006 12:35 AM

I am in for a group buy.
NewShockerGuy 07-11-2006 12:38 AM

VERY VERY INTERSTED IN THIS!!!!

"All payments due in advance by Bank wire transfer only." <------ Does that seem shady?

From the above it's $420 but where is that? I am reading all through this and don't see that...

I have a question about the quality... what about fading, uv sun..etc?
