zak - You won't have to wait too much longer to see them painted. I'm finally making the molds ... first one is scheduled to be made on Wednesday.
RSEnigma - it's still going to have the carbon inner fenders but I think I can get away without the steel, but I won't know until I get all that bondo off my car  Still doing the same deal, $3750.00 with front and rear WRC bumpers and all. I kinda put off the Prodrive dealer thing for a couple of months to concentrate on getting the fenders finally finished. For some reason, I thought that was a good idea. Oh, and yeah, the car's still blue and black, but not for long. I really want my car back.
And for everybody who came to the BBQ yesterday for Subaru Kym's birthday ...   Thanks for coming and you're welcome back any time.

Hey Steve,
I was gonna come by on saturday but I was changing the springs in the RS and it took about twice as long as I thought (who is the idiot that put a closed brake line bracket on the strut?)
Have to find another time when you are there.

Doh, I suppose you did it the right way and disconnected the brake lines and re-bled everything, etc. etc. Sucks, doesn't it? I did the same thing when I changed my springs.
Anyway, I'm at the shop a lot more now. Especially since Kym redecorated the offices. Kinda makes me not want to go home to my apartment. Let me know when you want to stop by and I'll make sure I'm there. Various molds and things will be stuck to the fenders for the next week or so, but you've seen the fenders anyway. Oh, and bring Mark by too. Sorry you couldn't make the BBQ ... pics are on the SCIC thread.

When did Mark get the STi? I thought he was going to get an Ultima. Damn, you should have made him drive you to the BBQ. :D

hey stephen..
glad to see the project moving forward... I have been following it for some time. My question though, may not involve your work necessarily. I need to find the maker of the WRC replica hoods... for the GC8 and the GD... they perfectl emulated the rally cars... a colleague of yours perhaps? any info you can provide will help.

I thought you should know that I have been telling people that you will bring the hood to the market. Sorry I had been warning people about you, I was feeling rather betraid and my natural reaction was to warn others. Tell ya what, let's both delete all finger pointing posts and warnings and we can burry our bloody hatchet. I think you are really a good guy just trying to make ends meet, and I am the same. I really did think that I would not have to pay for the plugs and that we were embarking on this business quest together. Hell, I was going to even suggest a merger of sorts and drop the other aspects of pkZero and suggest we do something like pkZero Composites together. I think it would have worked well, but oh well. I hope that next time we see each other we can sit down and have a beer while shooting the **** about how much we both hate Jon. Ya, both. I am very sorry I tarnished your reputation and I promise to do my best to repair it.
Best of luck to you,
Kevin
ps, sorry Char and I argued
FJP this might set things straight.

You more than likely will have to. Just the way it is with hard to find parts. I've been waiting on the 4 door kit since this started. I may have found OEM 22B wheels though....keeping my fingers crossed for that ;)

Uhm.. I'm sorry, but have you ever done any composite work with a day time job? Are you paying for a shop with no money pouring in? Do you have mercury poisoning?
Steve has a day time job. For OVER TWO YEARS, he's paid for the rent and all materials that go into making the fenders out of his own pocket. Do you know how expensive carbon is? This isn't even to mention that Steve has mercury poisoning and is really sick.
Look, I'm not trying to come off with an attitude. I work at Aerosim, and I see how hard he's worked and only a fraction of what he goes through with the mercury poisoning. It's really not fair for you to be so impatient. I'd go on about what mercury poisoning entails, but this isn't about crying pity. Please try and be grown up about what you say.
I'd also like to ad that this whole time, Steve has never taken a down payment or any sort of money for what he's done. Through the history of NASIOC, I've seen people get scammed with people taking other people's money with the promise of product time and time again. Steve's just not like those people.
I'm sorry if I got terribly deep into this, but it pretty much upsets me when I see something like this.
Anybody's welcome to contact me with any questions about Aerosim or the kit. My e-mail address is

As a matter of fact, in addition to my regular super demanding day job, I DO have an automotive performance parts manufacturing business, and guess what? I have expenses too, lots of em. I get up at 7:00 AM and go to sleep at about 2-2 am EVERY night for the last two years...and yes, I MAKE the product I dont resell it...from raw material to final fabrication.
Look nobody is attacking anyone, thats the last thing I would ever do, you should not be upset..., and I thought the mercury thing was done and over with, (it was a long time ago, wasnt it his fillings or something like that?)
My question still stands.
I simply stated- I dont want to wait four years for a replacement part, and you took me on a wild ride of
How hes payed the rent
Hows hes payed the materials
About how expensive carbon is
His mercury poisoning
Called me impatient
Brought up scammers (why are you reffering to scammers? Did anyone accuse you or him of taking money?)
Etc
etc
etc
Seems to me you gave me a WHOLE bunch of stuff that I didnt ask about.
In addition, if he is still sick, the kit can go to hell, his health is what matters :)

PURE EPI - I know some of the Gimme Gears story and I've been offered the GC8 WRC hood to make a mold from. Is that the one you're referring to? The one that has 22B looking vents ... just a bit bigger.
ibis - Woah, where did you find original 22B wheels (BBS Electras)? That's one amazing find.
Costas - Kym's just really concerned about my health and she knows what I go through. I'm still sick even though the fillings were removed almost a year ago. My doctor wants me to undergo IV therapy for it but she warned me that I'd be out of work for at least a month and I can't really afford to do that and quite honestly I don't want to be that sick for a month. Anyway, thanks to Kym, there's actually a bit of money coming into the shop for a change and that's never a bad thing. As long as that keeps happening, then I can take off some time from my day job and finally get this thing finished. I ran out of vacation and sick days long ago so I have to take unpaid leave now.
Whatever ... I never wanted to harp on my health or ask for sympathy. I'm just happy that you guys are still around and haven't totally given up on me. The last time I updated this thread, I had a friend of mine making the molds for me. Go figure, he botched the molds and I'm back to doing it myself. I actually have to fix the mold he made, make a part out of it and then make a new mold from the part. Not fun but at least I don't have to start from scratch or anything.
That's it for now. I don't have internet access at home yet (I moved over the holidays and the SBC DSL guys are retards) but as soon as I do, I'll be a little quicker with the responses to posts and e-mails.
Oh, and don't worry ... it won't take 4 years for a replacement part. It's just the first ones that take so long.

Thats cool man. My girl would do the same thing LOL. Look , everyone has a hard time, and its hard to find any sympathy sometimes in the type of world that we live in, but I can understand, and respect your situation and hope you take comfort in that. yes, You dont know me personally, but I will keep ya in my prayers...and I mean it..
I wasnt aware that you were still sick until Kym brought it up... I hope you you get well soon man, I really do. (Im from where you were from originally NYC baby!) i just had to bite back a bit because she needs to understand that her emotions cant affect the business. (the show must go on) Pro is the way to go. Without a doubt.
Its really great that Kym is supporting you to this degree (my girl does the same too, we just spent three hours working on a logo that we still cant decide on...LOL) I respect that. But, a few years ago you had a plan, and I'd love to see you not only succeed, but create a product that will make a lot of people happy (including me). Keep it up and dont give up!
tell you what, you have a sale with me when you complete this. If I have to go to Ca to make sure you have spares I will!

| | 01-21-2004 03:48 PM |
Costas - cool ... I appreciate the understanding. I totally agree ... Pro is the way to go. Gotta keep an eye on the prize and stay on the path. I just got diverted a little bit cause I had to make ends meet. Too many credit cards with big balances, but those are slowly going to 0.
I'll get some pics by the weekend. Right now, the car is in the corner cause we had to make some room for the lift and I didn't want to take the chance that the lift post would topple over on the car as we were standing it up. Wanna see a grown man cry ... that would have done it. Anyway, I just need to clean up a bit and move the cars around and I'll snap some pics.
The prices are still the same ... $3750 for the carbon kit complete and $3000 for fiberglass. Everything is pre-preg oven cured carbon (or fiberglass) under vacuum except for the front bumper which is wet lay-up.

Yes, you can probably sand it down if its thick enough..but its still quite off. and a good kit should at least line up correctly

I've followed this for years and still no final product. Any new pics? Please keep us updated, throw us a bone here.

I'm sure steve will come through although an update would be nice.

I'd be surprised if us GC bodies get any more attention. There aren't enough of us around to make products like this profitable.
I know I'd love to have a widebody, but I'm not going to buy one. How many of you are actually waiting with cash in hand?
With the WRX, STi, FXT and LGT out, I think we're relics, my friends. :)

Ah, finally found this thread
I see the progress going almost on a weekly basis, and I can say it's going well, and I'm sure the fit and finish will be better than anything body kits out there. Layman said it well: this might not be a commercially feasible project, but it's a project Steve is putting a lot of passion into so let's all cheer him on.
I'd like to see the kit for the WRXs of course :D with all the WRX coming in and out Steve, you can get molds from those things any time! Think of the weight loss!

Hey guys, to keep you all drooling, here's the email I got from Steve on July 29th...
Hi,
We're still not in production, however we're finishing up the mold for
the last fender. We should be building kits within a few weeks. The
carbon hood is going to be at least a month or two after the kits begin
shipping. The first hood will actually have vents that are closer to
the last iteration of the GC8 WRC car, except a little bigger.
Pricing is $3750 for the carbon wide body kit, and the projected price
for the hood is $1200. All parts are made with pre-preg (aka dry)
carbon. The fenders are fairly light although they won't make the car
any lighter. The hood should end up around 6 pounds.
As far as availability, we are trying to get the parts out ASAP. There
is currently a waiting list for the fenders. Once the molds are
complete, we will be taking deposits for the fenders and the hoods (once
those are complete).
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions. I'm a little swamped,
but I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Thanks,
Steve

Damn, I never thought I'd see this thread pop up again.
The fenders are just dying to get made. The molds are finished for the fenders and bumpers but I had to concentrate on turning wrenches on customer cars so I could pay off some huge bills (mostly from the guy who made the molds for me). Anyway, as soon as I pay the bills and have enough left over for a roll of pre-preg, I'll make some parts. Just so everyone knows, the carbon molds for these things cost a bundle. The rear bumper alone cost over $2500. I was a little shocked at the bill and total for all of the molds was well over $10K. Ouch. Oh yeah, and I owe a few more $1000's for the motor that was built for a customer who backed out. It's going in my car, so no big deal ... USDM STi shortblock w/V7 JDM STi heads, AVO 450 turbo, etc. etc.
RokketRide ... All of your parts have been ordered and should be on the way. I'll let you know when they get here.
