plasti-dip part 15

dees421 03-20-2012 01:26 AM

No, not plastidip matte clear (don't think they make it), just a regular matte clear.
brockd 03-20-2012 01:34 AM

gotcha.

Everything looks good, plan on dipping my green mini in white plasti-dip.
xluben 03-29-2012 10:45 PM

I decided to try Plasti Dipping my Forge BPV tonight. It turned out pretty good. It looks nice now, but I really don't think the Plasti Dip will hold up to much mounting/remounting or opening of the valve. If you just paint it, mount it once, and never touch it, I think it will look OK, but if you have to take it on and off, or open it often, I don't think it will last. Anyways, here are the photos...

I don't know why people use this crap. It never holds up. And it is a dirt magnet.

It only looks good when you paint the part for the first time.

mine held up for over a year on my wheels. maybe you should apply is better.

actually it does kind of work. did it on my gf's exterra and when they rotated the tires they came out fine. just have to cut around the outside of the hub cap if you are going to remove it.
PhillyLGT 04-10-2012 09:24 AM

used this stuff on my FRP grill and 06/07 pu ebay lip as well as fog lighht inserts. Looks great

Just wondering has anyone painted their rims other then black or that one in blue?

I want to paint my OEM rims a different color but trying to think of what might look good.

Been done but never hurts to get some new pictures out there!

Very happy with it. Very easy to do.

Try the metalizer. I used the Gold metalizer but they have a silver metalizer which makes it look gunmetal.

Why not? It doesn't affect the finish in any way. Honestly, it's not a bad idea in terms of keeping paint in good shape.

Home Depot stocks it and some smaller hardware stores carry it as well.

hella_sti 07-13-2012 02:53 AM

anyone know if plasti-dip would work on the springs of my subaru? They are really rusty and need paint and I think standard paint would be too brittle and crack as the spring flexes.

Plastidipping the whole car, wow! A friend of mine was telling me about plastidip the other day and I never heard of it...suddenly, I'm hearing about it everywehere haha

We're all wondering... how many cans? Looks great!
Ian G. 07-16-2012 09:34 AM

that 2.5i looks pretty smooth and even from the pictures, only thing i didnt like about plasti dip (only did the rear strip) is that its very sensitive to waxes and other similar products. i marred my plasti dip very easily and just ended up removing it. i literally touched it with a rag with waxed residue by accident (when cleaning the surrounding areas) and the plasti dip just picked up a white streak that would come off no matter what. seemed durable tho, i power washed the **** out of it first to test the strength and it never even chipped. maybe next time i'll try more thin coats

SPT exhaust tips/bells plastidipped. I am very satisfied with how it turned out. Much better than the shiny look.

And that blue wrx looks sweet. I would love to do that to my car to help protect the paint, since you can just peel it off when you are done. Too bad I have a clear bra. Looks great though, I'd like OD green, or a darker blue.

Masking Tape and an exacto knife. But, I also think that of you were careful and just painted and knew what to look for (pay real close attention before you get too many coats so you can still see the whole "light") that you could just do it without taping and still cut out the plasti dip and peel it off the lit section.
