yes, its fairly flexible. I'd compare it to the weatherstripping inside the car door maybe a little softer actually.

anyone with an 06 do this yet?
| STiShawn | 05-14-2007 08:13 AM |
yes!...but using a totally different material.
Just yesterday I did my 06 front lip using Brick edging. Its way more rigid and has mounting flanges that even allowed me to use 2 of the factory splash guard clips for install on each side. The center section is a real P.I.T.A. to blend in and I'll be redoing it. But for now it looks great, cost $14 for the 2 pieces of trim and I had the fasteners in the garage. I'll get pics tonight and post them up.

rex guy what did you use? that looks great!
| Rex_Guy | 05-14-2007 05:00 PM |
I used the garage door bottom seal like the above picture and some 3M double sided tape. the trickiest part is that the rubber is rolled the opposite way than you want for the bumper. It bends easy but you kind of have to go slowly and form it to the lip as you go.

Now that you mention it, I've never really noticed it before. Even after you pointed it out, I had to look at the car to see what you meant. Thanks for pointing it out. :)
Those screws are the longest I could find, at 60mm. I need a 65mm in the bottom corner, towards the center of the car. Once I do that, I need a 55mm for the outer bottom corner for both sides.

I did my 06 on Friday night. I put side 1 (as per pic above) on the bumper. When I got the middle cutout section, I attached the corner of side 1 and the little piece to the bumper to make it stick out away from the bumper and form an even bend from one corner to the other. One person thought i had put a v limited lip on because it stuck out the same. I also put strips of sheet metal between the washers and the lip. This spread out the force and eliminated the pinching caused by the washers.
| STiShawn | 05-21-2007 08:01 AM |
post some pics Mechie3, you used the rubber door seal right?

This is the same idea I had - using 1" aluminum strips (from HDepot), drilled every few inches. hopefully stop that 'summer sag' a few people have seen.
I'd like to see how it looks, what you used and how far apart the holes are - bump for pics

I don't have any shots, but here's an MS Paint. Spacing was about 3-4 inches on straight sections, as close as 1 inch on the transistion from the side to the cutout on the front, and ~2 inches on the side curve to smoothen in out. I drilled holes as close to the front of the bottom without making them visible as possible. I bolted the corner on, then as I went along used needle nose pliers to puncture a hole in the strip where I needed it by holding up to the bumper and pushing it throught he hole in the bumper.
Blue=body, black=lip, gray=strips, red=washer, yellow=bolt (10-32), green=nut

i think i might have to do the pieces of metal under mine, i can kinda see some of where the washers are throught the lip
| Mechie3 | 05-24-2007 09:13 AM |
Oh, the strips were about 3/4"-1" wide and covered ~3-4 screws. The outer bolts (for each strip) held 2 strips in the place, the far left of one and the far right of another so that there weren't any breaks in the strips. This isn't shown in the picture above.
| Pohenegamook | 05-24-2007 09:51 AM |
Awesome! thanks for taking the time to put that graphic together.
I was thinking I'd use the longest straight lengths where possible (1-2 ft?) then use 2-4" pieces where is has the tighter radius / curves in the middle.
I was also thinking about trying to bend the strips to contour the lip where possible, by notching the strips like this:

Not sure how difficult that would be tho.
Whatever I do (eventually), I'll post it up.
Thanks again!

i havnt began the install but i picked up the double sided carpet tape. this $H!T IS GNARLY! its made by Duck brand tape. its the "Heavy Traffic". the one i bought was 1.41"x42' (PLENTY!) haha.
wish me luck.

:furious: :furious: :furious:
so this morning i did the install before work. i started by krazy glueing the tape i got to the rubber seal. this got messy and i was over it so i ended up just doing it on the pass side for like the first 10 inches. i continue with the tape which seemed to be really strong. i finish, and let me tell you, this lil inexpensive add on looks GREAT!
i begin the drive to my buddies to pick him up cause we car pool to work. and i went on the freeway for about a mile. (just flogging it cause i was a lil behind) i heard a sound under my car when i first got on and instantly check my mirror,... nothing. phew right? i get to his house junp out and look... its still on! SWEET! he gets in we go to work. which is a 30 min drive. we get to work yatta yatta blah blah. i come out after the day is over..... NO MORE LIP!!!!:furious: oh man i was sooo mad! i have NO CLUE when the hell it fell off??? no sound or anything? i get down and look at it closer, all the tape is still there and the short spot where i used the krazy glue... black foam is stuck to it.
SOOOOO, i believe the krazyglue is essential. i have enough foam seal for another try so this time im not goona rush it, nor cut corners.
so take this as a lesson if your considering doing this mod. it looked amazing for the hour or so that it was on. so good infact that i know now that its well worth the extra time needed to do it all over again.
i might not have given it enough time to cure, could have been part of why it came off.
so now ill try again :(

or just go for the sheetmetal screws with washers on them..one every 3 or 4 inches

crazy glue is fine. just put on a lot and in swirls. 2 superglues for 1 dollar at Dollar Tree. Mine's been on for a few months now and its on tight. Still perfect after 90mph test too.

just did one with garage door seal and 3m super heavy duty outdoor double sided tape, really hard to curve unless you take off both sides of backing, which i didnt haha, totally screwed it up with tons of creases and folds/stretches. it holds nevertheless, but the tape shows cuz its too close to the outside if you get down and look at it, also SLIGHTLY uneven if looking from atop, but hey, what the hell for 10 minutes and 18 bucks!?

| Kahres05 | 06-07-2007 09:17 AM |
I did the HD lip as well. Also I was able to find this super light plastic reinforcement to secure the lip and also make it more rigid so it dosent bend near as much but you have to cut in like 5-7 inch lengths so you can make it contour with the car. The garage door stuff is a bit tricky to work with but the key is not to rush. Here as pics of my ride.
