DIY 5 Shift Pattern/Decal part 2

Siper2 07-18-2005 11:50 AM

Sweet, but $4 apiece is a bit steep for me. :)
VSGTS14 07-18-2005 12:39 PM

wow this is really neat, i may have to try it
kunfuzion 07-18-2005 01:32 PM
Here is a pic that I took tonight. Crappy pic but it gives you an idea.

is that a super-hyper turbo boost button below the shifter there? :p
762x51 07-18-2005 10:46 PM

Very cool idea.
Handsdown 07-18-2005 11:39 PM

it should be noted that silver or other metallic colors would have to be hand painted/colored since the idea here is that the design is printed out... so it's very much limited to the capabilities of your printer.
2002WRX_5speed 07-19-2005 10:26 AM

Ok, several people have asked about the production metal plate. I can make them for you but I will never again reveal on how I make a DIY project. My intent is to make it a DIY project not for someone to profit out of my idea and post a link to my original post. Just venting....

Volleybrad--Can you remove your free advert from my post? Not cool!!!
A pm would have been more appropriate since you are not a vendor...
Jonnyfilmboy 07-31-2005 12:30 PM

This is an awesome mod idea. One of the simplest and best I have seen on NASIOC.

And I think it is OK to tell people how to do something. DIY is great! If some people know how to do it and STILL are willing to pay someone else to do it for them (because they have a bad printer, or are all thumbs), that's OK. And then someone else profits off of your idea, that sucks that you aren't getting a cut, but then that's life in America.

Great idea and a great mod!
subywrx 08-28-2005 10:45 PM

Can I buy 1 or 2 from someone here for 5 speed with "subaru", "momo", "hks", or "prodrive". If you have it please pm me with price shipped.
Libila 08-28-2005 11:47 PM

^ Man you are an ass...

I'm a huge fan of DIY stuff (because I'm a poor college student and I seem to always have the mod itch) and this is next on my list. Thanks for posting it!
wrxedya 08-29-2005 08:32 PM

SSJChar 09-06-2005 10:16 PM

awsome, i think im gonna make one for my shifter(though its a toyota. i don't have a subaru anything, though i really really really wish i did). its mandatory to have the shift pattern somewhere in your car, and my button on my shifter is pretty much gone. I'll probably use glow-in-the-dark stickers as the gear pattern so that it kinda illuminates at night(though it won't be that bright since it has to charge first, and if its at night, there won't be much light to charge it up). ill post pictures once i start making it and the final product. hope it works out!
Siper2 09-07-2005 09:18 AM

Mandatory? What??? Where is this?
Handsdown 09-07-2005 09:36 AM

yeah if i were you i'd run some of those 'neon glow wire' wires under the decal instead of using glow in the dark stickers for the pattern... that way it will light up with the rest of the instrumentation and you won't have to shine a flashlight on it for 5 minutes to charge it up:lol:

but umm... the whole idea of this is that it is DO IT YOURSELF... so yeah, knock yourself out...
SSJChar 09-08-2005 01:23 AM

heres my TRD shifter button. its too small to put any glow in the dark anything on it, as the recessed circle is only around 2.5 cm, which is pretty good for the pebble because the pebble is 2cm. im getting someone to print it out for me tomorrow, so we'll see how it looks.
edit: nm, i can't paste links because i dont have 10 posts yet :(
emorphien 09-08-2005 01:37 AM

I have the momo knob on my LGT. If I take it somewhere and they need a layout, I'll print it nice and big on a piece of 8.5x11 and tape it above my radio.

Seriously I have no use for one personally, if you don't know where your gears are you're screwed.

your like the kind of person that would slow up the can of worms or something.....

Btw...people do this for the hell of it. and as stated above its a state law in some areas. no need to hate

not hating, but i wouldn't want a permanent fixture of it if I could help it. Is it actually required for inspection, or do they just need to know which way to wiggle the stick (in which case the 8.5x11 works fine)?
SSJChar 09-08-2005 09:54 AM

here, in the province of saskatchewan, its required. dont know why, but it is.

Uh-huh.......... bahahahahahaha ........ oh man, you can always tell the people who have limited knowledge about cars. Although the 5 speed pattern used on the Subaru is used in most cars, there are other patterns. This is the reason why almost every production car has a gear knob with the pattern displayed on it. YOU may not always be the only person to drive the car, and when you smell your cooked clutch because that "new" European valet has used 2nd gear to move off every time, don't complain. Do you know the amount of gears and all patterns of every vehicle ever built?........ didn't think so. There ya go, you learn something everyday, now you know why people and manufacturers put the patterns in the vehicle :p

BTW, when are you removing all the wiper, A/C, radio, etc., markings. Surely by now you know where everything is don't you?

You clearly missed the point of what I was saying. Obviously if you're going to drop it off somewhere you'd want the pattern for someone else to drive, but I don't let anyone else drive it but the dealer when necessary and they know the pattern. I myself don't need it. I know where it goes and it's not multifunctioned and it doesn't blend in like the knobs on the stereo.

And trust me I've seen plenty of different patterns so get a clue. Unless you like being an ass, posts like yours aren't adding anything.

And your original post was? O.K. then. My post was to back the original posters idea, and in so doing encourage the DIY community to continue to share their ideas, in spite of sarcastic remarks like yours. It also provided a reason why patterns are a good thing, what did your original post add?

I was agreeing with those who don't want one on their car. Other than trying to flame, what was the point of your post? Exactly.

Go find something current worth arguing about at least. Not a thread a 2 months old.

ib2qwik2c 06-23-2007 03:44 PM

These things are awesome! I'm gonna look at my interior and think harda on a design... I'll try to make a nice one myself but not sure if I have good enough software or a serious enough printer. I'm also kind of confused on the pebble stuff.
I understand that they are pretty much useless, but sooo many other mods are useless too :P These just look cool :)
I may change my shift knob too if I do this to a cool knob without a pattern. :P

I think most importantly, DIY is def FTW :D
WickedGrip 07-05-2007 01:52 AM

does anyone have one that says WRX
djerickd 08-25-2007 09:07 AM

Who's making these now-a-days? Who wants to sell me one?
Drunkinchef 10-11-2007 06:52 AM

I'm soo gonna make a ton of these! Pretty sweet DIY. Never thought of it. It's soo simple but in the same sense it puts ur car apart from others with something unique. Good ish man!
djerickd 10-11-2007 11:07 AM

someone make me one please, I'll paypal ya!!
BIGSKYWRX 02-24-2008 09:45 PM

djerickd 02-24-2008 10:23 PM

BIGSKYWRX 02-24-2008 10:39 PM

asianhulk 04-04-2008 12:22 PM

bump, bring these back, i would love to have the one that comes with the titanium knob...blue and white with the pink sti logo!
4wdrift 04-04-2008 01:07 PM

1. Go to an arts and crafts store (Michaels etc...)

2. Ask for scrapbooking dots / bubbles

3. Go to Office depot and purchase sticker paper(comes in white and clear)

4. Go home and make your design or copy a logo from... (I will post the perfect link with every concievable logo when I get home) link: CLICK ME

5. Resize and print your logo on sticker paper

6. Peel and stick your logo to the dot

7. Profit...
Handsdown 04-04-2008 01:41 PM

you really have to use outdoor materials otherwise the sun will fade it over time.
vecdran 04-04-2008 02:51 PM

Does anyone know if they make dots in a large enough size to cover the emblem on a OEM MOMO wheel? I want to replace mine with the Prodrive P.
Subie Gal 04-04-2008 03:05 PM

still like mine the best :D
oh ok...i didn't know it had something to do with law
1. Go to an arts and crafts store (Michaels etc...)

2. Ask for scrapbooking dots / bubbles
thats what that clear plastic thing called?
BIGSKYWRX 04-04-2008 07:18 PM

called page pebbles- be advised they are no longer made, but there are still some out there- it's the extra large size you want 1x1"

there may be another manufacturer that I'm not aware of????

glilly is also a vendor on here "underground graphics"
djerickd 04-04-2008 09:29 PM

it's glilly Total Posts: 9,073

I got him beat tho
BIGSKYWRX 04-04-2008 11:20 PM

Jamie got it wrong it too, but I started it -whoops a daisy :)
shoefean 04-05-2008 01:35 PM

How dumb do you have to be not to know your shift pattern?
Subie Gal 04-05-2008 01:38 PM
How dumb do you have to be not to know your shift pattern?
against the law in some countries not to have the shift pattern mounted in place either on the lever or dash.

yes, some laws are silly.
Handsdown 04-05-2008 01:56 PM

it's also illegal to not have a poodle skirt on while walking your puppy in reno, nv

j/k. but yes, it's a stupid law and i'm sure it's never enforced.
btw the sti shift pattern 1. looks bad on the white backgound 2. is only good for sti's that are 5-speed:lol:

i don't think anyone makes a pebble large enough for the momo steering wheel.
