There are some states that require DRL's? I never knew that! Damn I learn something new everyday! LOL.... oh and I have a question OPer for disabling the DRL's is that for all subaru years or just certain years? When i was installing my HID's i noticed the DRL was plugged in and I just unplugged it.
Maybe it's just me, but can anybody explain to me the POINT of doing the Silencer Delete?
(I'm NOT running a turbo, so is this something useful only for the turbo models?)
It basically just gets rid of a bottleneck for the air going towards the filter. The snorkus is a water trap, but if you don't get massive flooding where you live, it's not very necessary. For turbo cars, the sound of the turbo spooling up is a bit more pronounced.

Confirmed: This exact method indeed works on my 2010 STI.

okay so i have a 2002 wrx with a missing fender liner so the intake snorkus delete should be easy. my question is, is it okay to run it without anything there to replace the snorkus? or do i need one like this guy
http://www.flex-innovations.com/elbow_delete.htm
and will it get air flow WITHOUT a snorkus??

| 2point0 | 12-04-2009 01:43 PM |
Yeah, it will just get air from the fender. If you leave the intake funnel on, it will blow air into the fenderwell also, but if you remove that you should really plug the hole with a fender plug.
If you use that snorkus delete elbow, it replaces the snorkus and connects the funnel to the air box just like the original unit, but doesn't make the air go through the water trap.

| 2point0 | 02-19-2010 07:39 PM |
Depends on what you replace it with, if anything.
If you use a snorkus delete elbow, so that you're still using the funnel over your grille, the only con is if you drive through water up to your hood, you'll suck it into the airbox. Chances of that? Hmm. That snorkus deal traps water in the bottom while letting air flow up to the airbox.
I used a 3" 90-degree PVC elbow trimmed a bit and shoved it from inside the airbox into the fender. It's high enough that water isn't really an issue. Then I took the funnel off and plugged the hole with a fender plug from SGP.
If you just take the funnel and snorkus out, you now have a small gap between the airbox and fender that can pull in hot air as well as the big hole left over in front of the airbox.
Pro: sounds pretty and less restrictive.
Con: chance of water in the intake due to swimming with your car. I live in SoCal, so this is really not an issue for me.

I had to open up the hole in the airbox and shave some of the "fins" on the bottom to finesse the PCV pipe in there, but it worked. I also cut off most of the "female" portion so I could maneuver it easier.

1st 3 pics kind of show what I'm talking about. The plastic ring in the 2nd pic with the white plastic screws...that has to come off. I put it back on to go with the snorkus when I sold it all. But you can see where I shaved the opening a bit.
I think I got the idea from a post on ScoobyMods, but it's been a while.

ecu reset doesn't affect belt chime

I bought my wagon new and the seat belt chime delete was already done?!?!? BUT!!! I DO NOT have to repeat the steps after an ECU reset. I get the few beeps and light at start up but then no light or sound without the belt on.... I just thought that's how wrx's were.......until I recently rode in my buddy's 04 sedan and his chime was screaming the whole way to the store. hmmmmmmm, maybe my wagon is weird.....
| CarpeDiem04 | 11-29-2010 02:22 AM |
Disabled my DRL today. Easy to do and it works. I did notice that I no longer get any reminder beeps/chimes if I leave the lights on, turn the car off, and open the door. Remember to turn them off or you'll have a dead battery. I'm sure I'll do that at some point.

what i did was chop it in half of what the snorkle delete would look like and i cut a a flat piece off whatever was remaining from the snorkle and just melted them together with a torch. problem solved.

SEATBELT CHIME ELIMINATION
DIFFICULTY: 0.5 out of 10.
1. Insert key into ignition. Turn to "Accessory On" position. This is the last click before you would turn the key to start the engine. Your radio and annoying seatbelt chime will be ON.
2. Within 5 seconds of turning your key to "ACC ON", take your seatbelt clip, and INSERT & RELEASE into the buckle 20 times repeatedly. Each time you INSERT the clip into the buckle, it must "click" into place. You must push the release button to remove it. Complete this 20 times within 30 seconds.
3. When you have completed the 20 clicks, turn your key off and remove it from the ignition.
4. Start your car as normal. You will notice that the seatbelt indicator chime will sound six (6) times, then go off. It will NOT come back on until the next time you start your car, and it will stay on this pattern indefinately.
5. To re-active your annoying seatbelt chime, simply unhook your positive (+) battery terminal for 30 seconds to reset the ECU.
This took me a couple of attempts but the third time wound up being the charm. The main issue seemed to be either that it actually takes more than 20 inserts and removals or I just can't count.
With that said, I can confirm that this still works on the 2011 WRX and when you get it right the seatbelt warning light(s) will go off, and stay off, after those initial six chimes. If they stay on you after the chimes then you need to try again.
Good luck!

I first tried this in my 06 WRX about the time of the OP as well as a buddies 2.5i and my 05 Legacy GT and now again after a few extra attempts it worked for me again in my 2011 STi.
Like he said "the lights will turn off if you did it correctly"
Now if someone could just tell me how to do this in an Audi A4 and my GF would do great things for me :)
Because the plug in the engine bay is just a drop resistor, not the main control unit for the DRL, which is the unit/clip you unplug behind the glovebox. If you ever go HIDs, you need to disconnect the DRLs completely, not just from the engine bay. If not, you will shorten the life of your HID bulbs as they will come on or flicker with the DRL not being totally disconnected.
Is this also true when using a relay harness for the HID's that merely uses the stock wiring as a means of knowing when to turn on?

Thanks for the Chime trick, helped me and my friend out quite a bit. However i would never disconnect my DRL cause its so much easier to just pull the E-brake up one click. That shuts them off just fine for me, and I can turn them back on with ease as well. im going to go out and attempt the seatbelt trick right now ;) i was just watching topgear on BBC and they were reviewing a Caddy CTS, it was "bonging" as he was explaining that there was a large gap in the door that he just climbed out, thats how he knew that the door was open, not that the stupid Bong was blaring in his face. lol jeremy is funny.
Probably going to do the DRL shutoff as well, because lights are stupid. if i want them on ill turn them on
???'s on the snorkus delete. does this exist in a RS? because i would like to hear the intake sound a bit more, and im probably going to run some flexible piping up from the foglight (because i have none :/ ) and get more air up there BECAUSE RACECAR. But id like to get rid of the snorkus if my rs even has one lol. its 04 ;)
thanks for any help anyone has :)
EDIT: just deleted the DRLs , Worked great!!!
Got the chime off, i think, it may have already been done, because i dont remember it, but whatever. I tried doing it 30 times, and it wasnt successful in making all the chimes turn off... so idk

...my headlights are dangerously dim :/
you like to switch to your DRLs at night....so when you spot the cop ahead of time.....with his lights flashing in your rearview....you just tell him you were looking for him?
well you found him...cause driving with your DRL's on means your tail lights are out....
idk about you guys but i flash the idiots who drive with only DRL's at night.
and as far as the DRL mod on 06 sedan, very easy. now going outside to do the 30 times in 30 seconds, no chime trick!:ritz:

So i tried the 30 in 30 seconds after the 20 in 20 seconds turned the chime and light off after 6 beeps. But all it did was cancel the chime delete that i just did. Maybe ill try it again one of these nights im not at work to see if the 30 in 30 seconds works. Sweet silence so far tho!!!
And i dont think ill be doing the snorkus delete as my main goal is to soundproof the whole car.
New window gussetts, door cards lined with sound deadening material as well as the roof under the headliner. After my sunroof got adjusted after an accident, the thing gives off so much wind noise that its even loud with the sun shade cover closed!

Just to note here 2014 wrx does not have a silencer installed, checked this morning and the front intake goes straight to the airbox, and the airbox to the throttle body.

Thanks for posting this, Tumor delete was the first thing I did, now the chime needs to go away.
