It had better not be for the last time. I don't know much about Fuji but Sazuka is way too good to be forgotten.
StuBeck 10-04-2006 10:50 AM

I think there will be a Pacific GP soon so it'll come back.

F.Alonso
M.Schumacher
K.Raikkonen
G.Fisichella
J.Button
F.Massa
P.Rosa
N.Heidfeld

Massa's been messing up a lot more since he got his win, its wierd how he and Giancarlo have switched spots in that department.
hashigozake 10-04-2006 12:48 PM

I think Massa's engine failure really ruined his weekend in China, and he didn't have it in him to fight back from that far behind. If he had started midpack, I think he would have collected some points at least.

And if they don't bring back Suzuka every year, I think it will alternate between Fuji and Suzuka. Fuji is actually a nice track, it would be best to have both.
It had better not be for the last time. I don't know much about Fuji but Sazuka is way too good to be forgotten.
Fuji's a good track, but nowhere near Suzuka. Damn it'll be a shame if this is it.

Anyway, MS is too damn good here and Bridgestone is on home turf. Ferrari 1-2, or at least 1.
Chiketkd 10-04-2006 04:06 PM

My predictions...

M. Schumacher
F. Alonso
K. Raikkonen
F. Massa
G. Fisichella
N. Heidfeld
J. Button
S. Speed! :D
wvallwheeldrive 10-04-2006 04:10 PM

The US should have two dates before Japan does, besides Fuji is a boring track.
StuBeck 10-04-2006 05:32 PM

I don't agree with that, we don't have any interest in F1 here, they are nuts about it in Japan.
ArtGecko 10-04-2006 06:32 PM

Arrrg, this is difficult! And I choked last year on the last two or three races and dropped from 3rd to mid-pack...

Don't choke, don't choke, don't choke!

M.Schumacher
K.Raikkonen
F.Alonso

No not at all thats why Indy has the most fans at the track, if the second race was in the right place (Laguna Seca) so we would have one east coast race one west coast race it would be perfect.

BillT 10-04-2006 07:52 PM

Laguna Seca would be aweful for an F1 race as it would be a race to the first turn because after that no passing would be done. MotoGP bikes have a hard enough time passing there.

Indy has the most fans because its cheap as hell, its cheaper for people to fly here from Britain than go to the British GP. I'm being completley serious when I saw it is easy to tell the real fns and the nascar fans because the nascar ones are the fatties. The track has also lost about half its fan base since 2000. Other countries deserve a race more than we do and they should get it.

Again, Laguna Seca is a horrible horrible choice, it is not safe and there is no passing zones anywhere. I don't see why people think its a good choice other than being close to them.

Well since i'm from West Virginia I really do want a race in Cali because it's close:rolleyes:, but hell since there aren't that many F1 fans in the states maybe they should not run a race here period. They need to stop showing F1 on TV here because sure out of the 299,904,730 people that live in the US there are not enough F1 fans to support it.
StuBeck 10-05-2006 12:07 AM

 Okay, why do you think it would be a good place to show the race then?

China should have 4 races then with that thinking. I don't understand how you think F1 is popular enough to support 2 races here when we can barely fill one track with .0013% of the population for one day of the year.

If that was true, I'm pretty sure Fox wouldn't have ponied up the money to continue SPEED's license, and I'm also pretty sure that Bernie wouldn't have used the option to have 4 GPs shown on broadcast channels.
JZ oo7 10-05-2006 05:40 AM

looks like rain is in the forecast again!!!

at where laguna seca is at right now, they wouldn't be able to host a GP unless they go through a lot of changes. i don't think there's any tracks in california that can qualify to host a GP.
grandpa rex 10-05-2006 06:54 AM

I think it's the manufacturers who insist on the US race. Biggest economy in the world, buy more cars than anybody.

I like the Indy venue. Been 3 times. 2000, 05 and 06. Easy to get to. Cheap. Lots of overseas visitors. More Nascar and IRL types than one might expect, but, hey, they're supporting my race with their money. More than I can say for my Nascar attendance. (I would love to go to the night race at Bristol, though).

Track kinda sucks, but you can watch practice and qualifying from almost any angle conceivable. In Montreal, you're stuck in one seat for the weekend.

Now, here's an idea: Let's get Tony George to replicate Suzuka on the Indy infield.

This weekend: I think Alonso's cracking under pressure. He hit out at Schumacher after Monza, and then at Renault last week. He is a worthy world champion, but MS has nerves of steel.

My picks this week:

MS
Raikkonen
Massa
Alonso
Button
Kubica
Fisi
Rubino
TimStevens 10-05-2006 07:01 AM

MS has nerves of steel? Am I the only one who remembers him nearly falling apart at the end of...what was it...2004?
occytron wrc 10-05-2006 07:32 AM

It sounds like rain so....

Alonso
Fisi
M Scumacher
Button
Raikkonen
Massa
Kubica
Heidfeld

It will probably dry up and I will be totally wrong, so we'll see.

2003, he is good when he is in control, once he's not in control he loses it. Kimi should have won the 03 title on that last race alone...well actually JPM should have if the incidents in the USGP hadn't happened and hsi car hadn't gone stupid in Suzuka.
TimStevens 10-05-2006 08:42 AM

Thanks, yeah, that was it. What a mess of a race that was.

Here goes another round. Schumi will take it, rain or shine.

1. M.Schumacher
2. K.Raikkonen

Yep. That is what angered me when Sauber said he never blocked in 97 when Ferrari told him too, he didn't then, but he did in 03. It doesn't help that you had a German in a Italian car with a ferrari engine in the sauber (yes, the 03 Sauber was the 02 Ferrari) so of course he's going to block for ferrari.

I always finds it hard to believe that HHF would do anything to help out Schumacher...at least without much grief.

Afterall, Schuey did steal Frentzen's GF and then marry her.

"First the guy marries my girlfriend, now I have to run blocker for him...what an a$$."

artkevin 10-05-2006 02:56 PM

Yeah, I am not saying that he did on purpose but he did destroy JPM's race because he let Schumacher go and then blocked JPM for multiple corners.

I didn't know Schumi stole HHF's GF. That's horrible. Funny but horrible.
Davidson tops wet practice 1 - Japan

Friday, October 6th 2006, 03:05 GMT

World championship contenders Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso were content to stay in the dry on Friday morning and watch as Honda's Anthony Davidson topped the times in opening free practice for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

The Briton was the first man out, fastest most often in the session and finished the hour with a best lap in 1:45.349 ahead of nearest rival Neel Jani of Switzerland in a Toro Rosso and German teenager Sebastian Vettel in his BMW Sauber.

Both Ferrari teammates Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa did not venture out at all on to the rain-hit track while Alonso and his Renault teammate Giancarlo Fisichella did only one installation lap each.

The session began in steady rain on a wet track. The air temperature was 22 degrees Celsius and the track temperature the same. The local Japanese fans, wrapped up in brightly-coloured sheets of plastic in the grandstands, sat it out stoically.

Davidson was the first driver out, his emergence marking the 20th successive Japanese Grand Prix on Honda's home track and also the last before the event moves to Mount Fuji next year.

In the opening minutes, Davidson was the only driver to reel off any successive laps as most of his normal Friday morning rivals were content to wait and see if the rain relented. Gradually, it did.

After 15 minutes, Williams's Alexander Wurz moved to the top of the times and stayed there for nearly 20 minutes before he was overhauled by Franck Montagny in a Super Aguri Honda.

Michael Ammermuller in a Red Bull Ferrari then clocked the best lap after 36 minutes before Davidson responded. By then, it had stopped raining, but there were still high plumes of spray being created by the cars.

Vettel appeared to be content to learn the track and was seen slithering in the rain several times as he found the limits of his BMW Sauber.

With 15 minutes of the session remaining, Montagny lost control at Turn 9 and went off into the gravel trap. He was unable to rejoin the action and Davidson, with his best lap of 1:45.349, continued to top the times.

So the idiot that programs television decided to show the season premier of Battlestar Galactica (yes I'm not just an uber F1 nerd) at the same time as quali...and I don't have either a VCR or TiVo.

Actually, I could never get the whole watch one thing while recording another to work with a VCR. I'm dvring practice 2 even though I'm watching it.

And what the hell was that tube going into Alonso's cockpit? Looked like a "I don't want to get out to pee" tube.

In other news, 7 11 is the first actual sponsor on the Red Bull cars...that is just about the most unexpected sponsor fo rhtem to have I think.

Suzuka picks
I've been busy this last week, but fortunately I had made my picks last week prior to Shanghai.

Unfortunately, I made these picks last week prior to... :) So they don't look so good now! :( I think their a little ugly, but maybe I'll be lucky.

Michael - If it's a dry race, this could be correct... current forecast is a dry race
Felipe - Not sure what I was thinking here, except perhaps that the B'Stones will be that much better than the Michelins... This is a bad pick!
Fernando - Team Renault speaks w/much confidence, and they could win here in the dry, but I expect to see Alonso finish 2nd
Jenson - Another bad placement... I now would guess that Jenson will fight, and beat, Fisi for 5th
Giancarlo - I wonder... what I was thinking to place Kimi behind Fisi and Jenson?
Kimi - If the damned Mercedes doesn't fail, Kimi will be fighting for the podium (this is a very poor pick!)
Pedro - de la Rosa is always scrapping for points against Jenson and Fisi
Rubens - Often here in the small points
A tough race to pick... a good dark horse pick would be Ralfie in the Toyota, based on a season or two of his youth racing here, plus if B'Stone shows up, the Toyota is strong. Heidfeld is the other good dark horse pick.
StuBeck 10-06-2006 07:23 PM

Starting Grid
Autosport.com's qualifying write up and excellent time table (at bottom)
www.Motorsport.com's quick and simple grid (but lacks tire mfgrs)

Bridgestone cars on the first two rows... And the first 4 rows are team by team rows:
row 1: Ferrari lead by Massa
row 2: Toyota lead by Ralfie
row 3: Renault lead by Alonso
row 4: Honda lead by Jenson

Surprises include:
McLaren sucked... Kimi 11th, Pedro 13th
Nico kicks a$$!... Surprisingly fast in first 2 sessions, and starting on the 5th row
Heidfeld is 5th fastest Michelin qualifier
Webber struggled and will start 14th

Questions are:
Are Toyotas on a 3 stopper? Most likely yes, while everyone else will run 2 stops. Same question applies to the Hondas too.

Bridgestone's excellent qualifying performance is due to better one lap performance, but what scores points is the race pace. So how will the Michelins compare at race pace?

Will Fernando get Massa for 2nd? Perhaps the ultimate question... He may get one or both Toyotas off the line, and should be clear of them after his first stop. So then he'll try to hunt down Massa. Massa will need a strong tire advantage to hold on to 2nd (see previous question).

Race is on @ 10PM (the cognac hour!) way out here in the west! Can't wait! :D
Ferg 10-07-2006 02:45 PM

I'm betting Alonso has more fuel than the Ferraris, several laps hopefully.

The Toyotas will be a non issue after their first (very early stops)...

Unless Fernando is unlucky enough to get stuck in the Trulli Train at the start.

That being said, Michael will walk this tomorrow.
KAX 10-07-2006 02:56 PM

im thinking fernando wont make it past both toyotas, they should be running light and alonso will be heavy, so michael and felipe will get a good lead in the beginning. Im betting by the end of the race both toyotas will be out of the points, one of them out of the race.
JZ oo7 10-07-2006 03:16 PM

i'm just guessing here, but i think massa is going to let MSC by at the start. then massa will probably hold everyone back.

maybe running light fuel would be a good idea since it looks like the weather is pretty unpredictalbe. got rain from weather.com but clear sky from msn.com

Has anyone noticed the sidepod wings on the Ferrari?

Is this the first race we've seen them?

Schumacher will screw up or have a mechanical failure.

Yeah, that happens all the time...

Alonso is a broken man, he'll be the one to come apart like a cheap watch.

MS on top and Fishi ahead of Alonso.
