All Alonso has to do is score 1 point, and he'll be champ. Michael has no other choice but to win(which is entirely possible), and not have Alonso score any points(highly unlikely).
In other news, Kimi got 5th. Not too shabby from 11th.

Wonder if Alonso will mess this up as much as Schumacher did in 03. Barrichello is the only reason Kimi didn't win the title that year since Schumacher did his best to run into others and generally be a klutz.

Would have been nice to see them fight. I think Alonso would have caught Schumacher but passing him would have been a different story. Very surprised Michael didn't walk away at the start.
Alonso got it right when he said Renault should have won in China and Ferrari should have won in Japan.

Wow...what an ignorant thing to say. Don't you think they considered the pace of the car full of fuel???
Are you serious? You think they didn't go over the option to the nth detail???
Its common knowledge that Mc last year had an AMAZINGLY fast car, quicker than the field EVEN when full, which is why that worked for Kimi and JPM (he ran last to 2nd last year on a one stopper, and should've gone last to 1st in another race but for a mechanical failure).
Just because the car could have done it last year, absolutely does NOT mean the car can do it this year.
This years car CANNOT repeat those feats, it does not run well heavy on fuel like last years car...
Pretty basic ideas here...that a really odd statement for you to make, considering your attention to the cars...
You sould know much better...
In fact, it was a major story last year....that car was actually just as fast being heavy...it was a strange characteristic specific to last years car...they talked about it all the time...

The championship was also tightened up by an engine failure (Alonso in Monza) so its almost fitting to me.
2006 will go down as a season of mirrored halves to me. Alonso dominated up to Canada. Michael from USA on. Every mistake Alonso made or misfurtune he had was repeated by Schumacher the whole way. The only one that wasn't repeated would probably be MS' Monaco stunt.
I would be careful about the wave thing. I don't know how you could say it was with mal-intent that he waved. He didn't give the finger or anything so I see it mostly as jumping to conculsions that Fernando was being smug about it.

I agree completely Kevin, there's definately been a bizarre symmetry to Schuey's and Alonso's season, and in the end it balanced out. I'm just lamenting the fact that ultimately the title has been decided (almost anyways) by Michael's engine letting go. I was really looking forward to them settling this on the track in Brazil.
So, Hamilton in the Macca for Brazil?

idk, im having mixed feelings about Hamilton. Hes a great driver and definitely will be great. But I just dont want to see another Nico Rosberg. So much talent wasted on an early beginning. I think they should give him his chance in Brazil, cuz Pedro hasnt been able to do much recently. But whether or not he gets the full drive, im unsure. I guess Brazil would be his test session, and how he handles that should decide whether or not hes ready for the big time.

Im not writing him off. Just saying its been dissappointing to see him suffer the way he has. Most of it hasnt been his fault. Its like Dennis said, its much easier to ease him into the sport; throwing him into the deep end is not a good way to teach him how to swim.

At least throwing them into the deep end will expose the sinkers.
Kimi's manager David Robertson nailed it I thought.

I agree with Kimi's manager. Lewis has what it takes. To me its whether or not the Macca has what it takes to not make him look like Nico. I think Nico has the talent, skill and brains to succeed. The only thing missing is the car. I hate seeing him struggle in a car that handcuffs him but he is learning. Williams will be back on top eventually and hopefully Nico will be there to reap the rewards. If really hope Lewis gets the seat and impresses like Kubica.
| bitterWRX | 10-10-2006 04:44 AM |
There hasn't been any confirmations for Hamilton in Brazil. Sadly, even De La Rosa doesn't know. I guess we'll see who comes out on top at testing in Jerez.
| KAX | 10-10-2006 10:20 AM |
i doubt testing is going to play a factor in the choice. I just think giving him this one chance wont hurt anything. Hes not going to ruin his career because its only one race, and its not going to hurt McLaren, the worst thing that could happen is hes worse the Pedro but still scores no or very few points. But it would help give Dennis info on how well he would take to the pressure of a full race. Just because he puts him in in Brazil, doesnt mean he has to keep him there for next season. Putting him in for Brazil offers no drawbacks.

I remembered something RD said back when he was asked why he had opted for Kimi over Heidfeld. He said something to the extent that since Nick had tested so much for McLaren, they knew exactly how fast he was, while Kimi being an unknown had the potential to be much faster. Sure it was a risk, he could have been a sinker, but Dennis felt that it was worth gambling on.
I have the feeling he's thinking along these lines again when faced with a choice between Pedro and Hamilton. Macca know exactly how fast Pedro is as well as how he goes in the races, Hamilton on the other hand has the potential to be the fastest guy out there.

The one thing people are forgetting is Kimi did a year at Sauber before he went to McLaren. There was also the issue that McLaren was in a small driver crisis at the time since they knew DC wasn't fast enough to win the title in their car. They had to take a chance on Kimi. As it stands right now they know they have a great driver with them and setting up Hamilton in the seat could be bad if he doesn't do well from the start. Nico's stock has gone down quite a bit because of the general crapyness of the car, people don't care that its crap, they just see him in the mid pack when they believe he should be much higher.
I still think it would make sense for them to put Hamilton in the car, or maybe Pafett, but not de la Rosa. I like the guy, but he just isn't fast enough.

Please tell me you didn't tell him how to say nasioc, or let him know what it stood for.

That first season with Sauber proves that RD will take a risk if he thinks the payoff is big enough.
Heidfeld out-qualified Kimi 10 to 7 and beat him in points 12 to 9 with more finishes. The safe choice would have been Heidfeld, who was already under contract, had tested for the team, and seemed to fit that McLaren automaton driver mold perfectly. That was Heidfeld's problem, to the team he was a known quantity, they knew how he'd run, while with Kimi the sky was the limit.
