Could anyone give me a quick overview of what a torrent is? I must be out of touch with this media!
I searched around and found a BitTorrent download site. Is that the software to enable the viewing of torrent files?
Then we can register on the www.tibbit.org site and view any of the torrents we want?
Are there any draw backs or watchouts in this process? ie spyware....

Pretty much all you need is a torrent client like Azerus or uTorrent. Both are, AFAIK, spyware free. However, there is the risk of viruses or other nastyness when downloading in such a manner, so be somewhat careful when running clients (i.e. keep that virus scanner running, etc.).
Once you have a client installed, it's pretty much just a matter of waiting someone to post the link to the torrent file. Your client will open it and start the download. You're expected to, once your file download has completed, leave the client running for awhile to serve the file up to other downloaders. There's a huge thread in OT about the whole process. Search for "Top Gear" and you should find it.

 well we can thank skoda, mitsubishi, peugeot, for backing out because i feel it ruined this season.
either way i was really excited to see this season and how gronholm will do in a better car than the 306 but *** is wrong with speed!?! if it they already air ENOUGH NASCRAP they wouldnt give the WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP anything? jesus.
Anyways. Good luck to all the drivers/teams on the 2006 season, and i hope i'll be able to get my hands on enough rally footage to be happy.....

citroen is missing from your list and its a 307 not 306 they used the 206 before the 307 ....btw there could be many reasons why they are not competing in 2006. Perhaps because they are focusing on 2007 (trying to build a new car) and don't forget there are radical regulation changes for the 2006 year, so might not all the manufacturers feel ready ....

I couldn't care less if its legal or not ... I have to have it :) .... I'm paying for my cable and everything and this "show" is missing from the 4 or 500 chanel or more or less I don't even know how many :) but I have everything Optimum has to offer. But seriously I don't think this would be illegal.

I havn't heard of any 'snow' tires that would be used on icy/snowy tarmac found sometimes at Monte, only the narrow heavily studden tires used in Sweden. Is this just since there not used very much?
Basically, I'm thinking these would be the ultimate winter tires to have, and want to buy some from Pirelli if they exist.
Also who sells rally tires I remember seeing Michelins somewhere, but can't remember where, I can't get any info on competition tires on the dealers websites.

Couple of things

hey. The main reasons that Speed have said they wouldn't show the WRC coverage are:
- The shows have 'consistently poor ratings'
- ISC (Dave Richards' company, which owns the commercial side of WRC) charges a vast amount of money for the rights
That's what they say. I honestly don't think it matters to anyone here that Citroen, Peugeot and Skoda pulled out, primarily because those brands are not sold here and are therefore met with (at best) blank looks and (at worst) derision. Mitsubishi are (theoretically) still selling cars in the US, but they're hardly a major commercial factor. MMSA never saw the power of rally like Subaru does though.. it was always just a marketing buzzword to them. I think I saw the single Evo commercial just one time on TV (although ironically it was a very good ad).
So I'd say that rather than complaining to Speed, especially since they claim to have tried everything to promote it, all these random petitions and whatnot would be better sent to ISC. If they charged less, apparently we'd be more likely to get our WRC coverage without having to arse around with torrents.

Do you actualy believe that? Maybe they just don't advertise lately in the U.S. as much as Subaru does. They been selling the lancer here since what 2001? the evo only came here in 2003 if I'm not mistakeing and it was the 9th generation. They only sell maybe 5 or 6 models here and probably 10-12 in Europe, Asia, Australia, so where do you think there is a bigger market for them? They have won the wrc title with Tomi Makinen 4 times in the row I don't even know how many times they won the manufacturers title. Not to mention Dakar where they were dominating the rally for years. So when you say they never saw the power of rally.... it makes me laugh....
Tokyo, December 14, 2005 Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has announced that it has decided to suspend participation in the FIA World Rally Championship series from 2006.
With the Mitsubishi Motors Revitalization Plan as a basis, MMC has made a solid start toward revitalizing its business operations. However, to strengthen and build upon this base, MMC realizes that it must focus management resources on the continued promotion of the revitalization plan.
Mitsubishi Motors hopes to return to the WRC Championship series from 2008, after the completion of the revitalization plan, which covers fiscal 2005 to 2007.
This decision however does not extend to MMC's efforts in the Dakar Rally (commonly known as Paris-Dakar). Mitsubishi Motors will continue to compete in this event.
Starting with an overall championship in the Safari Rally in 1974, the Mitsubishi WRC Team has accomplished a spectacular 34 wins in the WRC series. The team won the drivers' title 4 consecutive years from 1996 to 1999, and won the prestigious manufacturers' title in 1998.

Damnit.. you people are nailing the coffin already on a season that hasnt even started... I am sorry but when MFG's left US rally... yes theres a hangover effect because of the money that WAS in the sport, and is now gone, but in the end the quality of the competition gets better. Privateers who are funding their own cars seem to battle more out of heart than money.
I think the US rally scene is going through a transitional period back to where it was in the 80's before the MFG's destroyed it. (because while the MFG's were fun and amazing... they made the ProRally environment un sustainable once they left. I hope we see the same happen to WRC... back when there were a couple actual factory teams, but then lots of privately run teams.
I think this Years WRC is going to be one to remember. The privateer's arent by any mean low end teams this year. And I would love to see a privateer team dominate the MFG's.
Dont blame the lack of TV coverage in the US on the lack of MFG's... blame it on David Richards, Speed TV execs, and YOU. The viewers who didnt watch it that much last season.

That's not true. Citroen is focusing on designing the C4 for the 2007 WRC and has almost nothing to do with Kronos.
Kronos is a rally team with a lot of succes in the past and has nothing to do with the Citroen factory beside that they are using citroen cars.
Btw good news for Sebastian Loeb fans french cigarette company Gauloise will be sponsoring Kronos for the 2006 years. Looks like now they got the money to be in the circle ;) ......

Shakedown footage is up on WRC+ now for those that have it. Seems like they are doing commentary for it now. Think its the woman from WRC radio. Some of the new car colors look great. The Kronos cars nothing much to look at though. Looks like a cheap version of last years Citroen job. The PWRC 2006 Subarus are interesting. They kept that little mini spoiler.

The studded winter tires used for Rallye MC are not on Pirelli's webpage, but can be had through Pirelli race tire dealers.
The tire they use is basically a rain tire with heavy stiping and a 2 or 4 per band stud. Search the swrt.com gallery achives for detailed photos.
A gravel tire would not work for the condition on this weeks rally.
Great work Stephane!!!

Tire choice is always a comprimise at Monte Carlo. I realise that in rally they have Gravel Tires, Ice/packedsnow tires, and tarmac tires, but what would they use for snow on tarmac.
Great work Stephane!!!

news !
The first three Monte Carlo Rally special stages were cancelled early Friday for 40 of the drivers because of two tractor trailors blocking the road, organisers said.
from wrc.com:
Loeb's early lead confirmed
Reigning champion Sebastien Loeb's hard-earned lead on the Rally Automobile Monte Carlo has been confirmed after officials decided to award notional times to the crews unable to tackle SS1 and SS2, and to officially cancel SS3.
Loeb started the rally with a startling fastest time on the first stage of the season-opening event's first leg, which immediately put him well clear of the field. The Kronos Total Citroen driver was beaten by Ford's Marcus Gronholm on SS2, but now leads the rally by over half a minute from Red Bull Skoda's Gilles Panizzi and Gronholm.
Good news for Loeb means bad news for Petter Solberg. The Subaru team leader made a disastrous tyre choice(slicks) this morning and is already almost three minutes behind Loeb.
also looks like swrt.com is takin so many hits you can't get on !! :(

Petter should be blaming his tires. He took slicks for the first loop of stages. Slicks + ice = really slow. It was a risky choice and it totally failed to pay off.

Loeb off on the last stage of the day. He braked too deep on an icy section and went off. Even if he can superrally tomorrow I don't think he can recover from the five minute penalty.
Atkinson is doing amazing, considering that this is his first Rally Monte Carlo. He's currently the top Subaru, and with Sebastien's off should finish the day in third place.

How far is Petter behind?
Well, he's never done well in Monte Carlo anyway ... at least finishing would put him ahead of Seb for once.

Solberg retires from Monte Carlo
By Tim Redmayne January 20th 2006, 18:28 GMT
Petter Solberg has retired from the Monte Carlo rally and will not restart.
Despite the Norwegian completing the final stage of the opening day with the second fastest time, his Subaru Impreza developed an oil leak on the road section, 47 kilometres from Monte Carlo.
The Norwegian stopped on the road after the oil temperature dramatically increased, but the engine was irreparably damaged and Subaru have confirmed he retired from the Leg and the rally.
Solberg was classified seventh after a poor start to the rally, following a bad tyre choice on the early stages. It is the first event for the Impreza WRC2006.
Teammate Chris Atkinson is faring much better, ending the day in second

I would buy an AWD Focus RS in a heartbeat, if the ford executives would remove the mustang owners **** from their mouth and realize that have 2 different, yet high performance cars might get them almost twice as many sales. arrrggggghhhhh. No wonder I don't purchase domestic any more....

Regarding the pull out of so many factory teams: I suspect the WRC will eventually become more like F1 with lots of private teams and a couple of factory teams. I also suspect, based on what is being run in the P-WRC and other rally series that the Impreza will be one of the most popular base models for the private teams. If this is true we'll see a lot more Subie's driven by the top drivers.
The fact of the matter is if a company isn't making and selling a real AWD sports car, it's probably not worth their while to run a factory team.

Gronholm enjoys his lead
By Tim Redmayne January 20th 2006, 19:30 GMT
Marcus Gronholm admitted to driving too carefully in some stages of the first leg of the Monte Carlo Rally - even though he currently leads the event by a massive one minute and 24 seconds.
The Finn, in his first event for Ford after seven years with Peugeot, won two stages today, having fought back from a spin in the opening test. He inherited the lead when Sebastien Loeb hit trouble and crashed out of the final stage.
Despite winning the World Rally Campionship twice, Gronholm has never won the Monte Carlo rally - the series' most prestigious event.
"It's fantastic to be leading and the Focus has been perfect all day," Gronholm said. "I drove a little too carefully sometimes, but conditions were terrible and it was hard to judge the correct speed.
"I've not enjoyed the day but I am enjoying leading. The big thing for the rest of the weekend will be tyre choice.
"There is slush, ice, wet asphalt and dry asphalt and it is so hard to decide what is the right option."

Playing it safe pays off for Atkinson
By Tim Redmayne January 20th 2006, 13:59 GMT
Chris Atkinson says playing it safe in changeable conditions is the reason why he has impressed on the Monte Carlo Rally so far.
Atkinson, in his first Monte Carlo Rally, ended the morning's troubled stages in fifth position, after choosing a studded winter tyre to cope with the ice and snow on some sections.
Atkinson's Subaru teammates Stephane Sarrazin and Petter Solberg both struggled with grip on the two stages, each loosing more than two minutes to rally leader Sebastien Loeb.
"We played it safe," Atkinson said. "We had the winter tyre and in hindsight it was a good choice. We had a good drive and I am especially pleased with our time on the first stage.
"The second one was OK, but even with our tyre choice, the conditions were all very slippery and patches of ice made it very difficult to judge grip levels."

The 12th one down.
Now here is the catch. I have know idea what language is it. Looks like the site is either polish or czech I hope that the preview will be english. How did I fund it? Google does magic if you learn how to use it ;) I couldn't download it yet because I managed to get banned from the site for 27363 seconds for downloading too often. All I did was clicked on the link and let media player start play it, then I canceled it and tried to save it. But I'm back there again dl-ing it :) via proxy so screw them I'm getting it anyways whether they like it or not.
So all you need to do is go there browse down to 12th, right click, save as, then wait until it's finished. Please guys don't kill they bandwith! It would be nice if somone could host it.
