Let's hope Kimi's suspension holds up this year.

P.S. I tried putting up the circuit map, but for some reason it's not showing up (even as a red X). Ferg, you got any ideas?...I'm trying to link the circuit guide to your photo bin.
bitterWRX 05-02-2006 12:26 AM

There shouldn't be a problem with his suspension since they're allowing tire change.

On a side note, is it just me or is Kimi not up to the fighting spirit as he was last year?

Looking forward to a good fight. I, as always, will be pulling for Williams and JPM.
I think Kimi still has the fighting spirit. We can't see it w/ the lack of pace of the car itself. Think back to preseason testing. McLaren could barely keep the car in shape long enough to complete a test and were having to reduce revs to keep it from blowing up. The pace they are showing now is amazing to where they were. I think they'll get back on pace mid-season.

Yea it def doesnt feel like hes fighting as hard as he did last year.... Maybe things arent going to smoothly with him and mclaren so he isnt motivated to put everything he has into the race...Who knows...? I do remember ron dennis making a comment that it was kimi & jauns fault for not winning the championship last year. I would be pretty pissed as a driver because the loss was obviously the cars lack of reliability....

Hopefully he can get back on track this weekend and give Alonso a run for his money.
wvallwheeldrive 05-02-2006 08:33 AM

I'm a huge Kimi and McLeren fan i just don't think those two will be back together after this season (can you say Ferrari Kimi)

Yeah, sometimes my hosting service pBase has trouble with hotlinking...it's damn frustrating.

I'm so tempted to pick one of the Williams drivers for a win at the Ring, they always seem to go well there, but everytime I've picked either Nico or Webbo for a decent finish they either blow up or get stuffed at the start...
Chiketkd 05-02-2006 10:57 AM

Looking for Schumi and Massa to have a good showing. I'd hate to see Alonso run away with the championship. One thing which is becoming very apparent, it's necessary for Schumi to qualify very high in the grid if he wants to have any hope of beating Alonso.
JoD 05-02-2006 12:27 PM

Please Kimi - win it for me this weekend!!

Agreed. Alonso is just driving too well at this point...

Qualifying position and pit strategy will play a major role in this race - like Imola. However, there should be a little more passing... Turn 1 is typically an area where the passer can brake late on the inside of their opponent and make a pass - it's also an area where several crashes have occured.

Good work on the Speed for 8th wvallsheeldirve.
Couple of cooments about your picks.
Alonso hasn't been off his game. He got beat but had the better car. MS always does well here. I agree about JPM being 2nd at Mclaren but he shouldn't be.

finnRex 05-04-2006 06:48 AM

I've conceded with McLaren. Unless they step it up big time this weekend or the next, I don't see Kimi winning a DC with them.

1. Alonso-its his for the taking.
2. MS-will put up a fight, but he'll be taken.
3. JPM-his hard work pays off, "cruising" once again.
4. Kimi-dogged by Dennis, he's slackin'.
5. Nico-workin' hard, showin' off his BMW skillz.
6. JB-workin' hard from the back of the pack(bad luck during qualifying).
7. RB-I think I can, I think I can.
8. DC-still gots what it takes to get into points.

Montagny replaces Ide at Super Aguri
Thursday, 04, May, 2006, 11:38

French racer Franck Montagny will make his grand prix race debut this weekend after replacing Japanese rookoeYuji Ide in the Super Aguri team at this weekends European Grand Prix.

Acting on the advice of the FIA, Super Aguri has demoted Ide to testing duties following his poor string of results so far this season.

Ide has struggled to get on terms with team-mate Takuma Sato in the first four races of the year and was given an official warning by the stewards after tipping Christijan Albers into a roll at the San Marino Grand Prix.

We accept the advice offered by the FIA to allow Yuji to accrue the mileage he requires to improve in F1 during our testing days only, said the teams principal Aguri Suzuki.

The team has made every effort to ensure that Yuji settled into his new F1 surroundings and I think that he has coped incredibly well under the circumstances.

I wish that I could have given Yuji more time in the car before the start of the season, but with the team being put together so rapidly we were unable to allow him the proper testing that he should have experienced.

I will continue to look after Yuji's interests and support his continuing efforts within the team, including his path back to a F1 race seat.

Montagny was already serving as the teams test and reserve driver and had been expected to run on Friday at the Nurburgring.

The former Renault and Jordan test driver will be the first Frenchman to race in a grand prix since Olivier Panis in the 2004 Japanese GP.
Ferg 05-04-2006 08:25 AM

I'm shocked! Okay, not really. Poor Ide. :(
The team has made every effort to ensure that Yuji settled into his new F1 surroundings and I think that he has coped incredibly well under the circumstances.
I wonder if Montagny will have his own seat.

Schumacher not afraid of Rikknen
04 May 2006

When Alonso was announced as McLaren's 2007 driver the speculations began about Rikknen's and Montoya's position at the Woking based team. Rikknen has ever since been linked with a move to Ferrari. Schumacher's manager said the German wouldn't fear the presence of the Finnish young talent.

"Michael isn't afraid of anyone and because he is the strongest driver out there," Weber told Gazzetta dello Sport. "Michael has always been faster than his team mates and isn't afraid to face another challenge such as Raikkonen."
This from mister "I guarntee a win in Malaysia" seems to forget Schumi chooses his teammates who he knows aren't going to be faster than him and kicks them out when it looks like they're going to be faster then him.
+1

No kidding! I've had almost as much seat time in an F1 car as poor Ide. It's just a little unfair to expect him to cope with everything, old car, no track knowledge, and lack of a proper seat...especially when you don't even give him any real testing miles.

I think Mr Franck is going to have a nasty wake up call come Friday morning.
artkevin 05-04-2006 10:27 AM

Has Franck not been in the car at all? I thought he had tested it in the past but I guess there are pics of him floating around from this weekend getting the bare basics done (roll hoop to nose cone adjustments etc).
Ferg 05-04-2006 10:52 AM

He was in Bahrain as the third/reserve driver, but I don't think he ever turned a wheel.
He was in Bahrain as the third/reserve driver, but I don't think he ever turned a wheel.
i thought they just signed him a week or so ago as their test driver, for the Nurburgring. I dont think hes had any seat time.
Ferg 05-04-2006 12:39 PM

They brought him to the first race in case Ide had issues, but he never got in the car as far as I know.

If he turns out faster than Sato this weekend it's not going to look so good for Taku.

Here's what Klien had to say about Ide.

Seriously, what the hell is Samantha Kingz? I have tried to look them up and surprise, all I can find is that its from Japan.
Ferg 05-04-2006 01:41 PM

It's a fashion thingy. If you remember I was screaming about it when the Aguri first broke cover.

No stranger than when the Tyrells had "Barbara" on their airbox. Turns out it was just some rich lady who liked F1, and specifically Jos the Boss.

I'd pay top dollar to have "Bernie wears diapers" on the side of the Ferrari.
artkevin 05-04-2006 03:21 PM

Why does Jos get the Boss attached to his name? Simply because it ryhmes? Did he ever win a race? Never really liked the dude and then I read an article about him and REALLY didn't like him. Basically told Sir Jackie he didn't know anything about driving.
FrostyAK 05-04-2006 03:47 PM

Why is there a Bond villain driving the car?

As far as results go, I am really hoping for both Button and Schumacher in the top 3. And I agree that Kimi doesn't seem as charged as last season. Perhaps the rumours are true and they've accepted the Phillip Morris back offer of a Schumacher/Raikkonen team for `07.

Ferg 05-05-2006 10:46 AM

Me too! I hope the pace Wurz showed this morning translates to good race pace on Sunday.
Wurz quickest in practice 1 - Europe

By Jamie O'Leary Friday, May 5th 2006, 10:03 GMT

Williams test driver Alex Wurz set the fastest time in the opening practice session for this weekend's European Grand Prix.

Austrian Wurz topped the times in 1:32.079 to beat Honda's British test driver Anthony Davidson by just over three tenths of a second.

Behind them, BMW Sauber's Polish test driver Robert Kubica was third with Ferrari's seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher the fastest race driver in fourth at his home circuit.

Davidson was the first driver to complete a flying lap, but a dirty track surface meant that he struggled to dip under the one minute 35-second barrier until 15 minutes had elapsed.

But he, Wurz and Red Bull's Dutch test driver Robert Doornbos sent the times tumbling as the session drew on before former Benetton and McLaren driver Wurz set the benchmark time.

Frenchman Franck Montagny, who is making his race debut this weekend, took just one lap to make his first mistake.

Montagny, who has replaced Japanese Yuji Ide at Super Aguri, locked up his right-front wheel and slid into the gravel at the tight first hairpin.

He continued without damage on his way to setting the 16th fastest time.

Toro Rosso's test driver Neel Jani also had an off. He slid wide over the kerbs at turn 10 but continued without damage.

The top race drivers again failed to produce much action on-track. World champion Fernando Alonso and his Renault teammate Giancarlo Fisichella both completed only one installation lap.

Neither the Williams or BMW Sauber race drivers, Ferrari's Felipe Massa or Toro Rosso's Vitantonio Liuzzi left the pit garages.
Wurz stays on top in practice 2 - Europe

By Jamie O'Leary Friday, May 5th 2006, 13:01 GMT

Alex Wurz rounded off a superb day for Williams on Friday by topping the timesheets in the second free practice session for this weekend's European Grand Prix.

Test driver Wurz had already set the pace in the morning's faster session and signalled Williams' intent to challenge for honours at a track where they last won in 2003.

The Austrian's fastest time was over nine tenths of a second faster than World Champion Fernando Alonso, who was second quickest for Renault.

Behind Alonso, Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, who comes from nearby Kerpen, was third ahead of Red Bull's Robert Doornbos and Honda tester Anthony Davidson.

Williams' German rookie Nico Rosberg caused the first moment of interest when he went off the track after 19 minutes of the session, while on top of the timesheets.

Rosberg cut across the run-off area at the NGK chicane near the end of the lap after missing the corner's apex, but suffered no damage to his car.

Red Bull's Christian Klien also went off when he locked up his right-front wheel under braking for the tight first-corner hairpin. He ran over the concrete-run-off area and continued.

The team's Dutch test driver Robert Doornbos added to Red Bull's frustrations when he spun in the Mercedes arena midway through the session.

Ralf Schumacher, who will make his 150th start in Sunday's race, proved that the track surface had limited grip by running wide at the 100 miles per hour turn 10 in his Toyota.

Midland's new German test driver Adrian Sutil continued to impress at a track where he won in last year's Formula Three Euroseries, ending up tenth.

Super Aguri's French debutant Franck Montagny continued to settle into his new car, despite having never driven it before today, and was the biggest improver of the afternoon session.

He knocked over 2.7 seconds off his morning time.
